25.01.2022 It's been great to see that the ASX200 companies have passed their targets of 30% female representation at director level. It's not just right to be inclusive, it's smart and it's an advantage - indeed diversity of social background, sexuality, ethnicity, family structure are all benefits to an organisation. But as we move down the scale from the ASX200 through to the ASX All Ordinaries down to privately held enterprise, we still see the percentage of businesses with women ...in decision-making positions decrease further. It means we still have a way to go. #ChooseToChallenge #IWD2021 #FreeToDo

18.01.2022 We've loved sharing with you some of the non-traditional tech support we offer to the community, and we hope you love it too! Here's another one that was a bit of fun with a great result. The customer wanted reliable and fast Wi-Fi throughout his home. This posed a few challenges, given the amount of stonework in the building, along with a complete ban on drilling holes and running wires. We had to consider ensuring the connection looked nice, no big loo...ps of blue cables or obvious power adaptors. The home is immaculately presented and in beautiful condition, so we devised a plan to make sure the clients needs were met. The building is huge with 400mm thick stone walls (aka the ultimate Wi-Fi blockers) BUT we found a solution! We settled on a meshed system that met every requirement and performs fabulously. It also looks pretty (if you look for it)! The second photo shows the neat white unit, next to the table leg, that we were able to spread around the house. #FreeToDo See more

11.01.2022 The ACSC's most recent Small Business Survey found the following: 97% of sole traders adopt a DIY approach. Almost half of SMBs reported they spent less than $500 on cyber security per year.... Almost half of SMBs rated their cyber security understanding as ‘average’ or ‘below average' and had poor cyber security practices. 1 in 5 SMBs did not know the term phishing. These are no doubt all concerning statistics, but one statement in particular won our attention: " , ." It's the above that indicates where the key issue lies. If Australian SMBs cannot identify their security weaknesses in the first place, there's a lack of emphasis on the importance of having a basic understanding of online security protocols. Whether it be online courses or utilising the likes of social media sites like Linked In and YouTube to access educational resources, you can never be too knowledgable when it comes to the safety of your business. #FreeToDo #CyberSecurity #BusinessSecurity

07.01.2022 This one is for the tech heads out there! A customer needed to connect a network between 2 buildings about 75 metres apart. ... We considered various methods but settled on a wireless link that promised up to 1.7+ Gbps bi-directional. We used 802.11 ad technology on the low-interference 60 GHz radio band. We also installed back up, using a 5 GHz radio and 802.11 ad technology. A couple of mounts were put on the building and the 150mm dishes were put up. The results speak for themselves. This was delivered in a few days, at a fraction of the cost something like this would've demanded a few years ago. It was an economical solution and a great success. #FreeToDo See more

04.01.2022 We recently created a method of monitoring the health and safety of ponies while they were in transit. : Live coverage Security system style recording... It had to be independently powered as he didn't want any extra wires from the front of the truck to the trailer. : We provided a solar powered, 3G connected, remotely managed system, that ticked all the boxes as well as giving the driver a reversing camera and the truck owner GPS tracking. The owner was pleased to be able to see his horses were comfortable and safe on their road trip up the Hume Highway. #FreeToDo #NonTraditionalTech

01.01.2022 Keely Froling, Captain of the Launceston Tornadoes, presented at the Women in Sport Breakfast this week. She spoke of her journey, the challenges women in sport still face but also her Mum's superpowers as both a Mum and 4 x national WNBL champion. Here's a thought to ponder:... "When she (Mum) played in the WNBL the women played their games before the men, they weren’t paid and THEN they had to bring the post-game food for the men each week. Thankfully, we’ve come a long way since then but we still have so far to go." The full speech is in the comments below - it's a wonderful and inspiring read as it was to listen to. #FreeToDo

01.01.2022 Our team were pretty chuffed with the instalment of 24/7 live cameras in a horse trailer a few weeks back, so we wanted to share with you some of the footage. The owner required a way to ensure his horses were safe and comfortable on their journey and the quality of the cameras allowed just this Here's a few interesting facts about the project: The horse trailer is designed to carry 20 horses including a tack room.... Three internal cameras were installed to ensure all horses were visible. Live vision from the cameras can be accessed in real time, anywhere in the world, for anyone who has access to mobile coverage or internet. The cameras also record events history which are triggered by motion and can be accessed by a device with mobile coverage or internet. The cameras are powered by a fully independent power source, which is recharged by a solar panel on the roof of the trailer.
