23.01.2022 A brilliant hot day greeted Junior Brownie Guides from Earlwood, Marrickville and Haberfield, who came together to mark World Thinking Day. A fantastic day of learning, reflection, and appreciation. We were honoured to have community leader, academic and local resident, Jennifer Newman (Wiradjuri) not only lead the Guides through a rich history of the area, Aboriginal history of first contact, and connection to country, but also join us for the day. Storytelling, history, even a little plant cultivation, enriched the discussions on how we, as Guides, can be peacemakers and builders, now and in the future. Jenny is indeed the embodiment of a former Brownie who demonstrates her formidable leadership skills daily! We wish all in our Guiding family a wonderful World Thinking Day.

22.01.2022 Rosie is a Junior Guide. She's supported many of our younger members and gets to spend time with them during the week between meetings. She's a special member of our Junior Guide Unit and even our older Guides have fond memories of their time with her.

20.01.2022 Before we ended our face-to-face meetings, our youngest unit were issued with kits to start their journey of being penpals. It has certainly been joyful witnessing how a bright yellow envelope creates a unique level of connection for them. Get writing! It is a gift for both the giver and the recipient.

19.01.2022 Wishing our District families and friends a wonderful summer and festive season. From Earlwood District Girl Guides We are now officially on a break for the summer. We have had a busy and fulfilling 2019. Guides in this District have added many new and favourite life experiences to their Guiding journey. Thanks to a small, but dedicated, team of volunteer leaders, Guides in this District continue a long tradition about to enter it's 90th year! We extend our thanks to familie...s, friends, and the many visitors who volunteered their time and skills to help our future leaders widen their knowledge of this wonderful world. If you are thinking about a Guiding future for your children, now is a great time to get on the waitlist for 2020. If you are an adult, wanting to help youth pursue their passion, build skills, make friends, become good citizens, compassionate leaders and brave adventurers, then we would love to hear from you too. 08.01.2022 Why do we play so many games? Guiding is such a wonderful opportunity to tap into a variety of ways that we develop skills and interact with others. Games play an important role in assisting our younger members to relax, release endorphins, share, communicate, support and raise their heart rate. It can also be a valuable way to create the right environment to learn more complex activities and concepts. Play based learning is a well recognised and effective method for youth. ... So we will always make time for play because we see the benefits first hand. So next time you see us playing, join in! Enjoy this informative video on games that help with self regulation.

04.01.2022 Guide Leaders are friends, role models and mentors to our youth members. You do not require any Guiding experience, just a positive and caring attitude. This is one of the most rewarding and fun volunteer jobs around. Will you come and be a Leader for the Guides in Earlwood? We are seeking volunteer Guide Leaders and Helpers, meeting weekly for about 2 hours during school terms. What do we do? We aim to empower young people to become confident, self-respecting and responsibl...e community members. We are not affiliated with any religion, and we believe in inspiring and empowering youth to believe they can be whatever they want to be! What do Leaders and Unit Helpers do? Our Unit Leaders meet weekly with a group of girls at the Earlwood Guide Hall. Meetings run between 1.5 and 2 hours. During the meeting you will help members develop skills, positive values and confidence through fun activities. You will be supported by a District and a Region Manager (also volunteers) and the team of other Leaders in the Region. Unit Helpers are mentors, extra hands, cheerleaders and caring individuals willing to support young women and girls pursue their Guiding journey. They are innovative, creative, energetic, responsible and enthusiastic advocates for female empowerment and civic duty. Pathway to Leadership How do you become a Leader? Becoming a Leader involves becoming a member and participating in training in emergency first aid and other leadership skills. We offer regular training by a qualified team. There are no out-of-pocket costs! Why should you get involved in Leadership? Our Leaders report they have increased their all-round confidence and skills, experienced the joy of helping youth members grow, made lifelong friendships, and had loads of fun! Australians have been part of this amazing organisation for over 100 years and we’re seeking fresh people to take us forward with our modern goals of empowerment, confidence, advocacy and making a difference. Ex-Girl Guides/Scouts are welcome to apply but NO EXPERIENCE is necessary. Working with Children check will be required and the positions require female/female identifying applicants. Your application will be replied to via the EMAIL address you have supplied. Please ensure you check your spam folder.

02.01.2022 Does this bring back memories for you?

02.01.2022 Guiding is a global Movement with 10 million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 150 countries - all with diverse backgrounds and experiences, World Thinking Day, February 22 2020 celebrates this diversity in our Movement. This year's theme is diversity, equity and inclusion, Living Threads, is designed to inspire us to reflect on how we can put equity and inclusion into practice, and celebrate the diversity in our communities and beyond. Earlwood met as a District to celebrate t...raditions such as raising the World Flag. Made possible because of the support of our community. We played and we made - learning to appreciate and celebrate the richness of our community and the unique qualities of each and every member. We celebrated our fearless Leader who was determined Earlwood would have a thriving Girl Guide community again. Our newest Leader made their Promise to join us on this amazing Guiding journey and our Kiwi Leader officially became an Aussie one. So wherever you are this World Thinking Day know that we will always celebrate the diversity in our community, pursue opportunities to improve equity for all our members and actively engage in inclusive practices. It is at the heart of Guiding and we continue to put in the love and effort needed to make it our reality!

01.01.2022 Our Junior Guides have been thinking about the members of our community who have been working hard to keep us safe during the covid-19 restrictions and decided to send a wee 'thank you'
