18.01.2022 Happy birthday to our fabulous Miss Alanah! We hope you had a wonderful day. Lots of love from the Early Advantage Team

11.01.2022 Hi all, We’re closely monitoring the updates around the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Although for the time being our region is mildly affected, we want to act fast and ensure we’re taking all the precautionary measures to avoid any risks. This is why we’d like you all to pay extra attention and implement the following guidelines: If you or your child is feeling sick, stay at home until you’re completely asymptomatic. Common COVID-19 symptoms are coughing, difficulty breat...hing and fever, but we ask you to exercise caution if you have the slightest symptoms in order to prevent potential infection. If you or your child are diagnosed with COVID-19, please inform us and follow medical advice. You can return to therapy only after you’ve fully recovered, with a doctor’s note confirming your recovery. If you have traveled to any of the high-risk areas (or if you’re currently there), please contact our office as soon as possible. We will ask that you do not return to therapy until the completion of your 14 day self isolation period. This applies even if you didn’t travel, but you live with someone who did travel to a high-risk area recently (e.g. a spouse, a flatmate or a child). Hygiene: We’re already cautious when it comes to office hygiene, but in times like these, we ask you to ensure you follow these official guidelines: * Wash your hands regularly throughout the day for at least 20 seconds at a time. * Use hand sanitizers with at least 60% alcohol * Avoid touching your face especially eyes, nose, and mouth with your hands. * Cover your mouth with your elbow when you cough or sneeze. * Open the windows regularly to ensure regular fresh air flow. THE GOOD NEWS! Beginning this week we will begin our implementation of Telehealth practice via ZOOM. Please contact our office to discuss your child’s suitability for Telehealth and how we can continue to support you through these challenging times. Your health is our top priority, so we will keep an eye on any developments around the coronavirus outbreak and will let you know if there are any extra precautionary measures we all need to apply. There’s no need to panic let’s all contribute to keeping each other safe.

11.01.2022 MATERIAL MONDAY: STICKER BOOKS Considering nearly every child loves stickers we love to use sticker books within our sessions. A sticker book is versatile and can be used to help develop a range of skills. For example, we can work with your child to answer a range of questions and might ask What is the girl doing? We can also work on developing your child’s sentence and word structures such as understanding past tense for example, The girl is jumping vs. The girl jumped... or The girl is sleeping vs. The girl slept. We could also use the sticker book to help develop understanding and use of prepositions, for example we may ask your child Where is the lamp? The lamp is ON the table or Where are the girl’s shoes? The shoes are UNDER the chair. #speechtherapy #stickerbooks #earlyadvantagespeechpathology #townsville

02.01.2022 MATERIAL MONDAY: COLOURFUL SEMANTICS Colourful Semantics break down sentences into a number of colour coded sections to match different types of words. WHO - orange, WHAT DOING - yellow, WHAT - green, WHERE - blue.... This helps children organise their sentences into the key stages, develop language and vocabulary skills, increase sentence length and improve story telling skills. View the photos to see how we break down the sentence The girl is sitting on the chair in three key sections. #speechtherapy #colourfulsemantics #earlyadvantagespeechpathology #townsville

02.01.2022 MATERIAL MONDAY: FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS: MULTI-STEP/SEQUENTIAL DIRECTIONS Who doesn’t love when their child is able to follow directions? We love using these within our sessions to help your child follow directions, improve sequencing and auditory memory skills. This learning resource is also accompanied by one of our favourite phrases at the clinic ‘Listen, Say it, Do it’. To help develop multi-step directions we might ask your child to Put the pig in the barn, THEN put the horse on the grass. We can also work on sequential directions and ask, BEFORE you put the pig in the mud, put the cat in the barn. #speechtherapy #followingdirections #earlyadvantagespeechpathology #townsville

02.01.2022 Miss Jess and Miss Mikaela are on their way to Melbourne for the DIR Floortime Workshop! A friendly reminder that the clinic will be closed on Thursday 7th November 2019 and Friday 8th November 2019.

01.01.2022 MATERIAL MONDAY: PUZZLES We LOVE to use puzzles within sessions - there are so many goals we can target! We can work on imitating actions, for example knocking, and producing early words including, ‘knock knock, open, take it out, put it in, close’ as well as animal sounds and names. We can also work on following directions increasing in length such as get the cow or first get the cow, then get the pig. Another way to use puzzles is to help children understand and use ...positional concepts (e.g. in, on, under, next to). We might ask the child to put the butterfly ON the table and then ask, where is the butterfly? to help the child in understanding and using these concepts. #speechtherapy #puzzles #earlyadvantagespeechpathology #townsville
