24.01.2022 Playing around or messing about with some of the Loose Parts from my library. This took not even 5 minutes to set up because I have a framework or way of th...inking that guides me. For an invitation to play or provocation I have 5 things I try to include that will make it very engaging and beautiful as well. Aesthetic’s are important to me as an educator because I believe children deserve beautiful materials and displays that show I respect and value them. The 5 things I include are: 1. Mirrors (can be glass or acrylic) 2. Greenery (real or fake) 3. Lights 4. Textures (variety of materials and decor items) 5. Levels (different heights) Everything that is included in an invitation to play or provocation is fair game to be touched, moved and used how they wish in their play. These are simple things but can really make it engaging, beautiful (for you and the children) and allow you to keep sharing your image of the child throughout your planning process. What are your must haves for setting up beautiful and engaging play experiences?

23.01.2022 According to research, greeting each student at the door with a positive message daily brings benefits for both students and educators. Educators have the abili...ty to make students want to come to school or stay away. Greetings can still happen during Covid times. Socially distanced greetings can replace some of the more traditional options.

18.01.2022 CLAY We absolutely love clay as a creative medium - you have to work at it just a big harder than dough! Ensuring we have a wealth of interesting resources t...hat compliment this kind of play readily available is a must - it keeps things interesting, allows children to test out their ideas, think critically and promotes creativity. We just love observing the levels of engagement, resourcefulness and determination we see when using clay. #rosevilleearlyyears #art #processoverproduct #looseparts #openendedplay #clay #childledlearning #magicalchildhood #outdoorplay #playbasedlearning #enablingenvironment #learningthroughplay

12.01.2022 Thank you to the amazing teams at St Nicholas for inviting me to present at their exciting 2 day seminar on Saturday and Sunday. What a motivational venue; I l...oved the big windows, all the natural resources, evidence of children’s play and work both indoors and outdoors. So exciting to work directly with educators and be able to stickybeak too! The weather was very hot (40C) and the approximately 100 educators who attended my 3 workshops were dedicated, even venturing outside for part of the outdoor play session! Always exciting to revisit the Project Books in depth, as part of the Australian Learning Tracks documentation framework, with a whole service who have embraced this methodology.

11.01.2022 As we begin to wind up the last 8 years together, I thought it would be nice to look back on some of our favourite photos! I'll share a few more over the next few weeks. Xxxx

06.01.2022 Let the children spin, go upside down, and spin in circles till they get dizzy -- their development depends on it!

03.01.2022 As educators, we are constantly observing young children's behaviour and considering the underlying factors. By acting as 'stress detectives' in children's live...s, educators and families can help identify and reduce stressors and teach children the skills they need to respond.
