25.01.2022 Thanks to funding from Charles Sturt University CUP (Community University Partnerships) Early Connections was awarded the Wellbeing Grant. These funds were greatly received and have enabled us to purchase new equipment to support our new specialist feeding clinic and meet the needs of the community. The feeding clinic service supports children aged 0-10. Early Connections is offering a new feeding clinic for parents of children with feeding difficulties. ... The program teaches effective ways to address problematic feeding behaviours in a variety of settings. The approach used by our therapists uses a transdisciplinary team (Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists) to assess the whole child. https://www.earlyconnections.org.au/lets-eat-paediatric-sp/

Heres some feedback on the program from local families this summer: "Teal (age 7) loves his aquatic therapy with Jaye .. it has definitely helped with coordinating his breath and movement and his confidence in the water."... "Lola (age 7) absolutely loved swimming lessons with Jaye. We found Jaye to be patient, caring and made the experience fun. She had a unique approach to teaching which was very well received by Lola. We would certainly like to participate in future sessions." "It enlightened him and improved his co-ordination. Im very proud of Christopher and Jaye. Jayes skills and activities are amazing. 13.01.2022 Why we do what we do You may be aware, 2 teenagers with Autism went missing in Australia within the last 48 hours, in separate incidents. We are SO HAPPY to s...ay that both boys have been found SAFE. Well done to all the people involved in helping to find them! Both incidents were the result of the young person wandering. Wandering is the catalyst for Autism Swim existing, and something we feel so incredibly passionate about. You may be aware that Wandering is also very prevalent in those with Dementia. The reality is that these incidents happen very frequently, the media just dont usually get a hold of the story. We are working with NSW Police Rescue on multiple new wandering prevention and response initiatives. In the meantime, please ensure you are equipped with our Wandering and Drowning Prevention Toolkit, and that you let us know if you need support. Our thoughts are with the families of both boys, and the boys themselves tonight! Hopefully they get a good nights sleep in a warm and comfortable bed

As a result, a number of changes to the NDIS have taken place in the last couple of months. In this 30 minute session, Karen Tippett and Leanne Varga will go through these changes and will provide tools and resources so you can best advocate for your family member in the times of COVID-19 and beyond. 11.01.2022 A beautiful start to the day down at Flynns Beach with Autism Swim Dippers and the Port Macquarie Surf Life Saving Club Nippers Dippers is a modified nip...pers and surf education program run by Autism Swim every summer. We are very fortunate to have the program running in Port Macquarie for the first time this year. It’s open to all ages and all abilities and run in collaboration with Autism Swim and Port Macquarie Surf Life Saving Club. The program provides vital water skills to those who may otherwise not have the opportunity. Each participant is supported in a 2:1 or 3:1 capacity, and has the opportunity to work toward their individual goals; whether that’s putting face in the water, riding a board, learning when to go over or under a wave or for some, the ability to interact socially with others.
