25.01.2022 14 years ago today I gave birth to my eldest. I prepped and attended an awesome independent antenatal class. I birthed in water, something I really wanted to do. I felt strong and positive. Then reality hit. Family many hundreds of miles away. Husband back at work. A baby who didn’t seem very happy. I was a mess. I loved her. But, boy oh boy, it was hard work. Later, much later, I heard about doulas. They mostly seemed concerned about the birthing part and sounded ...wonderful. I then later, much later, heard about postnatal or postpartum doulas! Oh I would have loved one so much!! This is one of the reasons I became a postpartum doula. To support mums. To encourage mums. To nurture mums. Who doesn’t love the babies! But who hugs the mum when she cries and doesn’t feel like herself. Who helps explain what’s normal in looking after and breastfeeding a baby. I do. That’s my role and I love it. Not as much as I love this vibrant, wonderful teen! But a whole lot. #postpartum #postnatal #postpartumdoula #postnataldoula #nurturingthemother #breastfeeding #newborn #mother #family #sydneydoula #australiandoula #doulanetworkaustralia www.earlydazedoula.com.au

24.01.2022 Had a fun week meeting up with Josh Saliba from Saliba Estate Agents who shines a light on local businesses. Check out the podcast link below to hear more of our conversation on how I got started, the future and some info you may not have known about me!!

23.01.2022 Looking forward to seeing this documentary made in Australia about the ‘broken’ maternity system. ** This isn’t just in Australia but around the world. This isn’t just a ‘woman’s’ issue but a humans rights issue. When it shows in your local cinema please check it out. There are screenings being shown globally. Look up BirthTime/ screenings I am fortunate to have had wonderful midwifery care in both my births not every woman has that. I have debriefed and listened to w...omen who are still very traumatised by their birth many years later. **please note this is not disputing that medical care and interventions are truly needed in certain circumstance. But women should come out of birth physically AND emotionally safe.

22.01.2022 I am so appreciative of mums who take the time out of their very busy lives to write such kind, lovely words about what it has meant to them having me work alongside them to make their postpartum experience more rested, nurtured, supported and informed. The support continues for this mum over the phone and email for some time even though the face to face visits finished up this week. Having a postpartum doula doesn’t mean we can’t do things... on our own it means we don’t need to! So if you are looking to have support, both practical and emotional, after having a baby get in touch! I can’t wait to work alongside you in the early ‘daze’ to make this a very special and supported time for you. #postpartum #postpartumdoula #postnatal #postnataldoula #baby #family #mum #nurturingthemum #newbornmothers #breastfeeding #doulasupport #sydneydoula #doulanetworkaustralia #matrescence #earlydazedoula. www.earlydazedoula.com.au

21.01.2022 Babies sleep through the night (this means different things to different people!) when they are developmentally ready. And this changes baby to baby. Babies still wake for reasons of hunger, thirst, comfort, feeling scared, hot, cold, teeth, developmental leaps and for many more reasons. Babies can not manipulate. Read that again. They can not manipulate- until much older. That is a specific behaviour and babies and small children don’t learn this for some time. So respond to their needs at night and when they are ready they will sleep longer and longer periods. Sometimes re-framing our expectations can help manage disappointment and what we think our babies ‘ought’ to be doing! You’re doing great mama!

21.01.2022 Such an important issue for mums navigating the postpartum period in 2020. Those who have used psychological services during this time and feel like supporting the continuation of Telehealth to mothers please comment on the link! Stopping this would seriously affect so many mothers right now.

20.01.2022 My last face to face day as this delightful families postpartum doula. It has been a fantastic journey with this family. The good news is I will still be supporting them on the phone and online! My support doesn’t stop when the face to face visits do! It’s been awesome to have a dad around and this pair are such an awesome team in nurturing and loving their little boy! They spoilt me with a delicious lunch today and I am looking forward to another visit for some yummy biryani! 18.01.2022 Clare is amazing. She asks you to read this article with no judgement. And yes she spent 19 years breastfeeding 5 kids! She is a beautiful, quiet and an unassuming champ. Love this story. https://www.kidspot.com.au//2fc4ef12a8e8f41bf32ab033911322

15.01.2022 Ah so that’s how you do it...

14.01.2022 Did you know that breastfeeding reduces the risk of SIDS? Around 80% of babies will co-sleep at some point and this helps parents to care for their babies at n...ight a little easier. So it is important to know how to reduce the risks and co-sleep safely find out how at https://aba.asn.au/cosleeping #RedNoseDay2020 #SafeSleeping #BreastSleeping

13.01.2022 Out and about with this lovely mum today enjoying vitamin D and fresh air! It’s really important when mums feel ready to start moving more. Having company helps mums build confidence so they will then be ready to do more independently. #postpartum #postpartumbody #postnatal #postnataldoula #postpartumdoula #newborn #family #breastfeeding #healthybodyhealthymind #freshair #earlydazedoula www.earlydazedoula.com.au

11.01.2022 Finished up with this little bubba and his lovely mum today. Although face to face has now finished the support still continues on the phone and email. Have loved working with this family and leave knowing the mum has received the support she needed at this moment in her parenting journey. 10.01.2022 Use of water in labour is being banned in ‘Covid hotpots’ for labouring women because of unsubstantiated claims in the current pandemic. This letter written by the Australian College of Midwives is well written and thoughtfully explains what we do know about the use of water (showers or a pool) in labour and the transmission of Covid- 19. It certainly makes you question motives here. A very sad day for women wanting to labour with the use of this non- pharmaceutical aid if this isn’t overturned.

08.01.2022 Great to see Vic Health putting a press release and tweets out about the aggressive marketing of a product that is potentially harmful and most definitely not needed for toddlers over 1! What’s the alternative- well that’s up to you mumma! Some use full fat cows milk, goats milk or other milks. Some don’t give milk at all as calcium and proteins found in milk can be found in other nutritious foods. Well worth a read for those with babies and thinking about what to feed to older toddlers. https://www.vichealth.vic.gov.au//high-sugar-toddler-milks

08.01.2022 Having a well needed rest before the evening activities. Walked over 20,000 steps today, 10,000 of which were taking my current lovely client’s baby out so she could focus on uni work. He was delightful and loves watching trees. Just something else this postpartum doula does, makes time for the mum who is expanding her career goals! . #postpartum #postnatal #postpartumdoula #postnataldoula #newborn #breastfeeding #breastfeedingmama #breastfed #nurturingthemother #supportingthemother #careerandmotherhood #motheroftwoboys #motheroftwo #sydneydoula #australiandoula #doulanetworkaustralia #earlydazedoula #earlydaze www.earlydazedoula.com.au

07.01.2022 Remembering today the unborn babies lost on 9/11. I love they were remembered too.

06.01.2022 Today is R U Ok day - so my question is are you? Mums go through so many ups and downs. It can sometime be tough for first time mums as their identity changes and they begin to realise the new normal their baby brings. For mums with two or more children they can feel overwhelmed trying to juggle different demands on their time and energy. Perhaps it is not a surprise that half of my role as a postnatal doula is to support emotionally! Providing a listening and empathi...c ear without judgement - even when mums say they didn’t immediately fall in love with their babies- which can be very normal, can not be underestimated. So mummas please share how you feel, with people you trust. There is such beauty in being a parent but there can be many challenges too. You are not alone! . #ruok #postpartum #postnatal #postnataldepressionsupport #newborn #family #baby #breastfeeding #postpartumdoula #postnataldoula #sydneydoula #doulanetworkaustralia www.earlydazedoula.com.au See more

06.01.2022 Baby wearing twins- how gorgeous is this!!

05.01.2022 You’re probably doing better than you think!!!

04.01.2022 Yesterday I spent the day improving my skills and knowledge at the 2020 ABA’s National conference so I can continue to better support mums to breastfeed their babies. It was such a great day listening to mums who have had babies in the middle of the pandemic and how incredibly challenging this has been. How inspirational they are!! Listening to talks on premmie babies in Tasmania and the response to getting them human donor milk while still very tiny, the role of dads in supporting their partners to breastfeed to finally listening to Prof Karleen Dribble discuss supporting mums who want to relactate due to the pandemic and wanting to protect their babies! An amazing day. Part of my continued professional development so I can keep up to date and knowledgeable.

01.01.2022 What a wonderful review of my time with this wonderful family! Thank you Neel, Soni and your gorgeous bubba!! It was such a great partnership together. ‘From the day we met Amanda, we were at ease and felt that we have this baby thing under control. Being first time parents, raising a baby was a challenge for us plus being migrants we didn't really have much idea how baby care works in Australia. Having a postnatal doula really helped us navigate through all the ques...tions and issues that came up ( they surely came up ). We were lucky that Amanda was able to help us especially during Covid times when there was no help coming from family or friends. She has not only help us with bubba but also give us the listening ear to all our stress and anxiety. Amanda's knowledge on breastfeeding, baby sleep, health and everything baby really, is very sound. Which meant we are not running between appointments for every small thing that comes up. She also helped us setup our village of support, from a GP, chiro, paediatrician, lactation consultants, postnatal depression help.. she has got you covered. She wouldn't even mind emptying the dishwasher. We only wish we had more time with her. Should have seen my husband's face on the last day with Amanda he was more sad than me. The main takeaway for me was the confidence Amanda instill in me, that made hiring her a great investment. So totally recommend getting a postnatal doula for yourself, especially if you birth through c sec and if you can get Amanda you will be sorted.’ #review #recommendation #postpartumdoula #postnataldoula #postpartum #postnatal #newborn #mother #family #breastfeeding #breastfedbaby #nurturingthemother #sydneydoula #firsttimemum #australiandoula #doulanetworkaustralia www.earlydazedoula.com.au
