25.01.2022 Handling different fun drawing materials in a variety of opportunities practices the skills they need for school. Some children are just not interested in drawing or might only do it for a little while. Colouring in a small bit like a paver just so you can squirt it clean might be just the motivator. That's because for some children to just draw something is too overwhelming. Making the activity smaller, makes the activity seem more achievable. And squirting cleans up for you as well! #learntoplayplaytolearn This post is part of our #learntoplayplaytolearn project in partnership with Play For All Australia. 23.01.2022 Using our low cost, no cost approach to thinking about ideas for Christmas gifts we have some suggestions for you: *Chalk (chubby lasts longer and doesn’t snap) *Spray bottle (to spray away your chalk drawings) *Coloured cardboard (easier to cut than paper as it isn't as floppy) *Ping pong balls (blow them, hit them, throw them) ... *Glue *Scissors *Wind up crayons Maybe you have some of these things around at home already. Maybe get them all together and put them into a box, to be a creative box ready to pull out when you think everyone is feeling lost for ideas about to do next over the holidays. For all the children in your life whether or not that have been naughty or nice. #learntoplayplaytolearn #christmas2020 #giftideas #4sleepstogo This post is part of our #learntoplayplaytolearn project in partnership with Play For All Australia. 20.01.2022 Want your own family band? How about you open the kitchen cupboard? *saucepans (fabulous drums) and their lids ( amazing cymbals) *spoons, metal and wooden *handles of cooking implements to either use as a beater or hit together. We could make our own maracas too, with drink bottles and rice or different kinds of pasta.... We can accompanied any kind of music we had handy. As well: *we explored different ways of working together, *being part of a team and *we problem solved and *all the time we had fun and developed many musical elements like: rhythm, pitch, timbre, and dynamics. Every child will find their own favourite musical element. #learntoplayplaytolearn #familyband #musicplay This post is part of our #learntoplayplaytolearn project in partnership with Play For All Australia. 19.01.2022 Wet days in summer time. Make the most of them. So much rain and so much mud. Why not explore how to make rivers, tracks and dams. Dress to get dirty and get ready to hose down before you go inside! Maybe do mud play in the late afternoon and follow with an early bath time. It's going to rain for days. Let’s get into it. #learntoplayplaytolearn #muddydays #messyplay #outdoorexplore This post is part of our #learntoplayplaytolearn project in partnership with Play For All Australia. 16.01.2022 A SHOUT OUT to all the AMAZING EarlyEd children!! #thankyou

16.01.2022 Not looking forward to traveling with your children. We still have to go on the big freeway over pass, then through all the trees, under the train bridge and then up the big hill. Keeping them informed can make a difference to how well they cope. It is no wonder they ask Are we there yet?. We know where we are going and what to expect but they don’t. Help your child mentally tick off what they go past and count down what is yet to come. #learntoplayplaytolearn #travellingwithchildren #summerholidays #placestogo This post is part of our #learntoplayplaytolearn project in partnership with Play For All Australia. 14.01.2022 Float or sink play makes things that happen around us into experiments. Watching what happens as you slowly drop items into water is fascinating. A clear plastic jar is perfect. Put it on a table at your child eye height to make it really obvious. For older children, draw up a grid. Make a list of items down the side and add float or sink across the top. Predict what will float or sink and then check off what actually happens. CAUTION: Playing with water in a small container... helps keep children safe. Always supervise children when playing with water and just remember that even a few centimeters of water can be dangerous..#learntoplayplaytolearn #gettingreadyforschool #waterplay This post is part of our #learntoplayplaytolearn project in partnership with Play For All Australia. 13.01.2022 Hills and slopes are fantastic natural obstacles to help toddlers practice navigating uneven surfaces. Crawling up a hill is a good way to introduce climbing, as it changes the way that gravity acts on the body. Walking or running up and down a hill improves a child’s balance and coordination. Drag a pull-along toy up the hill or roll a ball down the hill. For those who are willing to get right down, lie on the ground and be like logs together rolling and racing down ...the hill. #activeplay #northsydney #northsydneycouncil #children #community #inclusion #accessible #sustainable #toddler #learntoplayplaytolearn This post is part of our #learntoplayplaytolearn project in partnership with Play For All Australia. 07.01.2022 Is your toddler learning to climb steps? A wide landing area is a great place to begin learning how to walk down steps, because a child has space to take a few extra steps to regain their balance. 07.01.2022 The music of words When we read, our minds grow wings. When we write, our fingers sing. Words are drumbeats and flutes on the page, soaring songbirds and trumpeting elephants, rivers that flow, waterfalls tumbling, butterflies that twirl high in the sky! ... Words invite us to dance---rhythms, rhymes, heartbeats, hoofbeats, and wingbeats, old tales and new ones, fantasies and true ones. Whether you are cozy at home or racing across borders toward a new land and a strange language, stories and poems belong to you. When we share words, our voices become the music of the future, peace, joy and friendship, a melody of hope. Written by Margarita Engle Poster illustrated by Roger Mello Since 1967, on or around Hans Christian Andersen's birthday, 2 April, International Children's Book Day (ICBD) is celebrated to inspire a love of reading and to call attention to children's books. #learntoplayplaytolearn #readwithchildren #books This post is part of our #learntoplayplaytolearn project in partnership with Play For All Australia. 05.01.2022 Maths is more than just counting. It is also about understanding quantity and the what the quantity words mean. See which one has the most and the least. Guess first then count.
