25.01.2022 Rainbow craft What you will need: Paper plate Coloured paper (thicker paper is easier to cut for those learning to use scissors)... Glue 1. Cut the plate in half to make 2 rainbow templates 2. If the child is able to cut along straight lines, they can help by cutting along guide lines on the coloured paper. 3. Once strips are ready, they can then 'snip' the paper. For those in the early stages of cutting the thin strips help them achieve success with 'snips' that will then be used to construct the rainbow 4. Paste the colours onto the paper plate to make their own rainbow Skills practiced in this activity include: - scissor skills - bi-lateral integration - pincer grasp - hand dexterity - sequencing

For some this change can be a very big deal, including for those children transitioning to school for the first time. 16.01.2022 Butterfly Craft Materials: -construction paper/cardboard - textas/pencils... - ice cream sticks or wooden clothes pegs - craft accessories (eg assorted beads, sequens, foam shapes, glitter - children's scissors - wiggle eyes (or black texta to draw them on) - Craft glue - paints/paint brush Method: Body shape- paint peg or ice cream sticks and set aside to dry. This will become your butterfly body Once dry glue beads or sequens onto body Wings - fold construction paper in half and draw a wing. Cut around wing with scissors, open paper to discover your pair of identicial wings! - decorate wings with drawn lines/patterns and/or craft accessories Once completed and 'body' is dry glue body to wings Skills worked on in this activity are plentiful!! - bi lateral hand use - cutting - fine motor control - finger strength - motor planning - pincer grasp - visual motor control - visual perception Have fun

13.01.2022 Coloured Rice - An easy, quick and cheap home activity idea! What you will need: Rice Food colouring x3 or 4... Stainproof mixing bowls 1. Place equal quantity of the rice into 3 or 4 mixing bowls (depending on how many colours you want to make) 2. Add 3-4 drops of food colouring to each bowl 3. Mix thoroughly and leave to stand for 3 mins to dry/absorb 4. Place the different colour rice into a larger container and let the fun begin..! This activity can work on a variety of skills including: - fine motor/hand skills using cups/utensils to mix, pour, stir etc - bi-lateral integration using both hands to play and/or one hand to stabilise container whilst other explores the rice -sensory play/experience, exlpore the texture or play hide and seek with small toys eg farm animals -colour awareness/recognition - early writing skills sensory experience... encourage children to draw horizontal, vertical or circular lines. Or even practice writing their name! Enjoy!
13.01.2022 Fluffy Paint Activity Materials: Water based paint (most non toxic and/finger paints will work) Flour Salt... Water Mixing bowl Squirt bottle (use an old sauce or detergent bottle if you have one handy) Cardboard In the mixing bowl, place equal parts water, flour and salt (1/4 cup of each gives a reasonable amount). Add similar amount of the paint and mix well. Pour the mixture into the squirt bottle and start painting!! This activity works on finger and hand strength as well as visual motor skills. It is a great way to work on early writing shapes/skills in a fun multi sensory way Once dried the paint is raised, hard and shiny and children often enjoy tracing over it with their finger for even more sensory learning Enjoy!!

Emma is passionate ab...out working with children and their families to develop the skills to thrive at home and in the community. Emma graduated from the University of South Australia in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science (Occupational Therapy) with Honours. Since then Emma has worked with children, young people and adults with a range of disabilities including those diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Developmental Delay, Intellectual Disability and Blind/ Vision Impairment. Emma has worked within the non-government sector in South Australia, most recently as the Senior Clinician Occupational Therapist at Autism SA. Emma has experience working in a range of settings including home, clinic, education, community, group programs, training and consultation. In 2012 Emma had the privilege of working with the Australian Volunteers for International Development in Cambodia with a local disability organisation. Emma’s 12 years of experience as a Nanny and Support Worker for children with disabilities, gives her a unique insight into family life with a child with disability. Emma has experience providing assessment and intervention for daily living skills, sensory processing, development of play, social skills, motor and visual skills. Emma has undertaken additional training in the areas of mealtime assessment and intervention, sleep consultation and sensory processing. Having young children of her own, Emma understands that it takes a village to raise a child. Emma is passionate about working together with caregivers to achieve the best outcomes for a child."

Kate has over 14 years of experience working in diverse clinical areas, with a speciality in Paediatrics that has developed since discovering her passion in this area of clinical practice in 2011. Kate is passionate about providing therapy intervention within real life settings and working together with families, carers and educators to ensure the child is supported to achieve functional outcomes in all aspects of their life. 04.01.2022 Christmas Tree craft What you will need: Art paper or similar Pencil... Green paint and paintbrush or green texta/pencil/crayon Coloured Pom poms Stickers or coloured paper strips Craft glue Glue stick 1. On art paper draw a christmas tree outline 2. Encourage children trace the outline with chosen green paint or writing implement and then colour in the tree green 3. Allow paint to dry (if this was used) 4. Squeeze craft glue onto container/plate for easy dipping of pom poms 5. Glue pom poms onto tree 6. Peel stickers and place under tree as 'presents' and/or tear colour paper into small pieces and glue under tree using glue stick Sit back and admire your Christmas tree creation and talk about what may be in the presents to stimulate creative thinking Skills targeted: - fine motor control and dexterity - bi lateral hand use/integration - pincer grasp - visual motor - early writing/drawing components including fluency of movement and motor control NB: complete on an upright surface (eg easle or on a wall) to also work on upper limb strength and endurance and promote greater wrist extension when placing pom poms
