25.01.2022 The mining company owned by billionaire Gina Rinehart is refusing to rule out further destruction of sacred Aboriginal sites Just weeks ago, immense public pr...essure forced the resignation of Rio Tinto’s Chief Executive now we need to strengthen the laws, so the destruction of sacred sites like Juukan Gorge never happens again. Will you sign the petition calling for stronger laws to protect Aboriginal Cultural Heritage?
18.01.2022 A group of passionate locals spent their Sunday looking for logging breaches in public state forests; Bagawa and Lower Bucca. Overall it was a reminder of how ...wildy inadequate the CIFOA logging protocols are for protecting threatened and endangered species; We measured big logged Tallowwoods (koalas primary feed tree) over 1m in diameter and tiny Tallowwoods left in barren areas for "food". We recorded post-fire koala scratches on Grey Gums, proving koalas were present before logging. We measured other stumps 137cm wide (3cm short of ‘breaking the law’ and well past what is morally justifiable). We documented crushed Rusty Plums and critically endangered Scrub Turpentine scratched by machinery. We witnessed logged areas significantly drier than remaining forest, with debris like a tinder box waiting for summer. Beyond the science and so-called 'laws', it broke our hearts to see sacred Gumbaynggirr lands destroyed for an archaic industry propped up on taxpayers dollars. Forestry Corp needs to listen to Traditional custodians, experts and ecologists. Time to move fully into well-managed plantations and stop logging our public native forests!

12.01.2022 Exposing the horror #impact of Forestry Corporation’s so-called ‘sustainable’ logging practices on Bellingen’s scenic landscape. On 14 September, FCNSW ignited ...a massive windrow #fire at #TarkeethForest near Fernmount, 5km SE of #Bellingen township, to clear hazardous combustible waste left behind after a clearfell logging operation which occurred while the community was under COVID-19 lockdown. These extreme clearfell logging burns which conceal industrial pollution in the name of ‘hazard reduction’ and ‘community safety’ are part of FCNSW’s commercial process that extracts mostly low quality logs to make throw-away pallets and supply woodchips for export to #China. These clearfell-burning operations kill #koalas and all native #wildlife, and play no part in reducing bushfire risk to people and property. In fact these intense logging fires are high-risk and strongly affect air #pollution, atmospheric composition and #ClimateChange. Monoculture replanting then takes place in a far more arid environment. The regenerating eucalyptus plantation is uniquely vulnerable to fire making our surrounding forested landscape more flammable and prone to subsequent high-severity crown fires with associated, potentially catastrophic, risks to our community. #SaveBeautifulBellingen #WrongMethodWrongPlace See more

05.01.2022 I spent today in the forest on the South Coast. Forestry Corporation is pushing to recommence logging in burnt forests across the South Coast. The damage they’v...e already done is immense and subject to numerous investigations by the NSW Environment Protection Authority for flagrant breaches of forestry rules. Thankfully I got to see some of the remnant old growth forest. It’s amazing how these parts of the forest coped much better during the fires. Old mature forests are wetter and their canopy is higher slowing the fires and reducing the damage. This is what much of the South Coast would have looked like in the past. Giant 40-50m 300+ year old trees filled with hollows for the birds and animals. This is what the forests can be again in the future if we let them. It’s time to end native forest logging in NSW.
