25.01.2022 Ahhh 2020 what a year! I wanted to reach out to every single person who shared, commented or recommended to a friend this year. My little small business only survives because of YOU! This year I have been privileged to support many birthing women and also process many placentas during this difficult time. Most of these came from word of mouth! So the kind words and recommendations make a difference to Earth Mama. So I just wanted to wholeheartedly Thank you! Thank you taki...ng the time to mention me or to share how awesome you feel after birthing. Thank you for continuing to trust in me and helping my business support birthing women. Happy summer and many blessings. See more

25.01.2022 When planning a VBAC birth, you have to deal with a lot of "what ifs". What if it's ecstatic? What if I have an experience of power and bliss? What if my body f...eels fantastic and I can breastfeed smoothly? What if the midwife doesn't make it and I go around bragging "I did it myself!" for the rest of my life? What if Gloria's right and I was made for birthing? Gloria Lemay See more

24.01.2022 They told you about the contractions, but did they tell you about the expansion? Did they tell you how your body would open to make way for the whole universe ...to pass through? Did they tell you how your heart would explode with a love bigger than anything you’ve ever known as you pulled your baby to your chest? They told you about the ring of fire but did they tell you about the crown of stars? Did they mention that there’s a moment when your baby enters the world and you leave your body and touch the heavens and become the light of a million galaxies? Did they tell you how the pain of stretching to receive your child would be more exsquisite than any sensation you’ve felt? They told you would scream but did they tell you about how you would roar? Did they tell you about the power that would rise up from your belly as you called your baby forth with your mighty voice? Did they tell you how you would embody the wild woman within you and breathe fire with your song? They told you would bleed, but did they tell you how that sacred blood wouldn’t scare you? How you would feel grateful for that magical liquid of life as it trickled down your leg- how you would honor its flow and how it would help you heal a lifetime of hating your body’s bleeding cycles. . They told these stories and taught you to fear birth, to fear your power, to fear yourself. But you’re stronger and wiser than that mama. You know that birth is your divine dance, your soul’s song, your moment with God, and you walk fearlessly into her open arms. 24.01.2022 The final placenta cord keepsake for 2019. A beauty of a placenta and birth!! This amazing mama rocked a VBAC at The Birth House this week. May these holidays find you much love, calm and snuggles of those divine newborn babies I have been so blessed to be part of this year.

23.01.2022 I had the divine privilege to support Emma for a second time to welcome earthside Otis. It brings me so much joy being able to support a family for multiple births and even better when it’s with the birth house

22.01.2022 Must see movie! The first screening sold out. So book quickly

20.01.2022 Sometimes you need a cookie to go with your milk.

19.01.2022 It takes teamwork

19.01.2022 "It is said the women in labour leave their bodies... They travel to the stars to collect the souls of their babies, and return to this world together." Original artwork by Jane Delaford Taylor

18.01.2022 Hospitals are restricting women to birth support ! Doulas are professionals who provide essential support services to women during pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Removing women’s doulas at a time when they are exceptionally vulnerable is dismissive of their needs and desires and violates women’s and babies’ human rights to life, health, privacy and equal treatment (doula support decreases morbidity and improves outcomes for mothers and babies). Current CDC policy notes that individuals essential for a patient’s emotional well-being and care should be exempt from exclusion/restriction situations. Furthermore, ACOG and AWHONN recognise doulas as essential support people and, along with RCOG, oppose restrictions on doulas being present during labour.

16.01.2022 Reposting this old favourite because it's the middle of the night somewhere and someone might need to see it. Or maybe it's not the middle of the night but... you need to see it. I'm currently lying on the floor of my toddler's room with my foot in her cot while she falls asleep for her nap. She used to want to hold my hand but we compromised and now she just gets a foot. It works . Also reposting because I've seen quite a few badly edited, pixelated and uncredited versions doing the rounds lately so I like to put the correct one out into the world every now and then. 16.01.2022 Oh how amazing and divine is this photo of Laura, Joel and I. Laura gave me permission to share this taken by her midwife at her homebirth last week. Some more of her photos are below. Laura totally rocked her vbac birthing on her terms. Such a pure delight that never gets old and so blessed to witness.

15.01.2022 Hospital policy does not trump your legal right to say no. Ever been told you need to agree to x y z because it’s policy. Or, our policy is to do x y z. BS. G...etting you to agree to something during birth because its policy is not providing information that gives you capacity to make an informed decision and give consent, or (heaven forbid) decline whatever x y z happens to be. Using language like this is antithetical to a discussion that gives space for a woman to have a choice. Because the implication with this language is that, you don’t have a choice and this is simply what we will be doing because it’s policy. Most policies aren’t even based on current good evidence, but cultural norms. It takes something like 15 years for hospital policies to reflect best practice evidence I once heard. The shit that goes down in some births is NOT what’s best practice - it’s policy - and it can be damaging. Stop dressing it up like it is what MUST happen because it’s policy. Policy is not the law. Your right to refuse, ask questions, decline, ask for more time, ask why, say no, choose if this policy and thing is actually right for you, as an individual, overrides any policy which is alleged to be the law. #youcansayno #stoplyingtowomen #hospitalpolicyisnotthelaw #consentmatters

13.01.2022 My heart is breaking for all pregnant and birthing women during this terrible time. Please deal with it however you need to (be loud, be angry, be quiet, reach out for reassurance, shut yourself in the toilet, breathe, whatever). It will pass, and you will birth. https://midwifethinking.com//feel-the-fear-and-birth-anyw/

12.01.2022 A study that has the potential to change our understanding of risk of VBAC was published earlier this year, just as many countries were entering lockdown. As a result this study may have gone "under the radar" despite its importance. This is a small study that suggests that uterine rupture during VBAC may be rarer than originally thought, and confirms the argument that not offering women information about VBAC breaches her human right to bodily autonomy.

11.01.2022 How beautiful is this art of the use of a birth ball

08.01.2022 Home birth gold standard of care!

08.01.2022 Let’s go ahead and say something out in the open. You’ve been conditioned to disconnect from what’s happening from your belly button down. From normal gynecological exams to birth, parts are hidden from you.... Placing drapes, covers and blankets over your bottom half, creates a disconnect from your body. From what’s happening. Removing your own body from your sight. This disconnect makes it easier for others to take charge, to control situations, to make decisions that do not include you. Claiming your power, your autonomy, your body and birth means connecting to all parts of your body. Nothing should be hidden from you. PhotoCred: Caromama - Geboortefotograaf en Doula

08.01.2022 IMPLIED consent is NOT informed consent!

07.01.2022 A beautiful visual of what your body is doing during all that strong work!

07.01.2022 Whenever you're offered a medical test, take a moment to consider what will happen with the information gained from it. Is this something you're happy with? ... Could a particular result limit your options in any way? (If a screening test shows that you are carrying group B strep bacteria, have gestational diabetes or have a higher-than-average BMI, for instance, you might be told that you can't birth where you wanted to.) What are the alternatives? (There are always alternatives, including declining the test.) Always remember it's your decision. You can say 'yes' or 'no' or 'I need time to think about this.' If you'd like to know more, or to better understand some of the wider issues around making decisions in pregnancy and childbirth, take a look at my book, "What's Right For Me?" It's written to help women, parents and families to better understand how modern maternity care works and how you can make the decisions that are right for you. 07.01.2022 Sharing this amazing story of VBAC success! This mama delivered her 12lb baby boy pushing for 6 minutes, without tearing. It was her 2nd VBAC (vaginal birth aft...er cesarean). Please don't believe them when they say your baby is "too big"! Your body is built for birth! Congratulations mama! *edited to add: the mother would like to note that she did this without an epidural!! #rockstarmama

07.01.2022 Ohh look what I got in my hot little hands! The wonderful The Birth House postie fairy dropped off my copy of Rhea Dempsey Birthing Wisdom new book. A fabulous new resource for my doula family library . Can’t wait to read it!

05.01.2022 Ohh another divine family I am privileged enough to support ( and take a couple of these photos) I will never get enough of witnessing women find their power and reclaiming previous births.
