25.01.2022 Amazing beautiful snake... a little cranky though... especially after I had to put it back in the container and ockystrap it down

20.01.2022 Botanical artist in action... with the footy on in the background of course.

19.01.2022 The Chapman River Friends are having a planting day on the 9th of June! Come along and help revegetate degraded portions of Chapman River Regional Park. This is a regionally significant patch of native vegetation (the same size as Kings Park) on our doorstep, here in Geraldton!

15.01.2022 I had a great opportunity at Pollinators - at the City Hive in Geraldton. Thanks all for coming and being so attentive while I let you know a little about my fledgling business and its associated philosophy... Thanks to Janice from Boomerang Bags for leading the seminar. https://twitter.com/PollinatorsInc/status/934043057195847682

15.01.2022 We've just passed the Winter Solstice. A quiet reminder that Spring is on the way. Despite the extremely dry Winter, there are still some hardy perennials flowering in Geraldton, including the native Prickle Lily - Acanthocarpus preissii.

14.01.2022 Pilbara Olive Rock Pythons are cool. Finally saw a live one recently when undertaking a climb of Burringurrah (Mt. Augustus). This particular snake was 2.5 to 3 m long. Very slow in the cool early morning in the gully. Was not happy to see us on the way back down.

14.01.2022 I was out this morning undertaking a Chapman River Friends dawn walk in the Chapman River Regional Park. There are some early flowers out - including Dioscorea hastifolia - the native Yam, also known as Warrine (after FloraBase) or Yajuga (by the Wajarri people - see the great book Wajarri Wisdom by Estelle Leyland). The tubers of this plant are edible, and were farmed by the Wajarri peoples, with George Grey (Explorer - 1839) noting that as he travelled through the Greenough Flats, he had to carefully walk his horses, in case one stumbled in a hole where a Dioscorea had been dug up.

12.01.2022 Our Website has been launched! Many thanks must go to Simone Collins for putting it together. Please feel free to follow the hyperlink below to have a look!

11.01.2022 To find the wildflowers in our patch this year - read the landscape and follow the water. https://twitter.com/WA_Botanist/status/890467789906919426

08.01.2022 I was at Drylands Permaculture Nursery on Friday having a chat to Johnny and Tim and heard my first Rainbow Bee-eater for the spring. They are migrating back down south to escape the hot weather up north.

07.01.2022 Looks like this will be a great event! Looking forward to it already!

07.01.2022 The Fitzgerald River National Park wilderness area is a truly beautiful place. Tread lightly.

06.01.2022 Busy day planting on the Greenough River... Before the rain came in. Reveg works where African Boxthorn has been removed.

05.01.2022 The Threatened Species Forum is on again! Looking forward to this fantastic event this year for great speakers and a sharing of knowledge. Get on board!

05.01.2022 A new flora species record for the Chapman River Regional Park. While not rare or threatened, it is a good reminder that the more we look, the more we find! Triodia danthonioides is a spinifex species. The nearest records are at the Moresby Range Conservation Park and at Eradu. 04.01.2022 The Aussie Backyard Bird Count is on again. A great idea for schools as well as everyone. Easy to join and an easy App to navigate. I'm in - are you?

04.01.2022 The Wheatbelt NRM Bioblitz is on this weekend in York. With the success of the Bunjil Rocks Bioblitz in September run by NACC NRM, Moore NRM and Yarra Yarra Catchment Group, I hope this one gets as many exciting species as we did at Bunjil. I've attached a couple of pics from the Bunjil event! http://wheatbeltnrm.org.au/bioblitz17

01.01.2022 Great results with the 4th annual Northern Agricultural Catchments Council (@NACC_NRM) Beach Clean Up in Geraldton, Western Australia! Earth Stewardship targeted the Chapman River mouth.
