25.01.2022 Beautiful playful time during a river adventure on my birthday spent weaving fallen banksia cones together. There were so many it was like a carpet of them in this spot on the riverbank, and somehow they started moving into patterns... Feeling so grateful for these lazy days in the bush just making it up as we go along. Much much needed medicine for the challenges this year has brought. In nature I feel so much grace and so much love, and it feels so profound to tune in ...to her slow and meandering rhythms. All the wisdom we humans need is right there. #natureasmedicine #rewilding #naturewisdom #gooutsideandplay #ephemeralart #naturetherapy #everysevendays2020 #everysevendays2020weave See more

25.01.2022 Hello my loves, these are indeed wild times we find ourselves in. I wanted to start a thread asking what is comforting to you right now? I’m finding it beautiful to see little lists of goodness popping up here and there so I thought I’d seed one myself. My favourite thing right now is the kind acts I am hearing about and find myself on the receiving end of. A dear friend of mine went to great trouble yesterday to go shopping for my 82 year old mum. I’m far away and missing... her so much and wanting to protect her from all this mayhem, so that one act made my heart burst with gratitude. I’d love to hear what is keeping you sane in these strange strange days The photo is one of my mums camellias

24.01.2022 Looking froward to talking with Bonnie Bliss tomorrow about the nervous system responses we are having to this situation we are in globally right now. I'll explain what different ways our systems might be experiencing it, and why, and I'll share some simple tools we can use to soothe and settle ourselves. You'll find details of how to join here in the event:

22.01.2022 Loving these evening walks and getting to know the neighbourhood in a whole new way over these months. I love the differences between the early morning visit and the dusk visit, the different patterns in the bird activity, the light, the feel of the place. Plus I am walking not running in the evening, so I can meander and loop around past the mulberry tree for snacks, or lay in the grass for a wee while and wait for the finches and wrens to decide I’m worth ignoring and co...me foraging all around me. This is the gift of this crazy year for me, becoming part of the rhythms of the landscape right here where I live. It’s been a silver lining and an incredible resource. I start the day with this nourishing connection, and then walk in the evening until my system has dropped into the rhythm of the land. A perfect way to wind down. #crepuscularwanderings #resourcingwithnature #naturetherapy #rewilding #somaticexperiencing #nervoussystemhealth See more

22.01.2022 Yesterday I read an article about how good it is for kids to build couch-forts, psychologically speaking, and how loads of kids are doing lots more fort-building during pandemia. It made me think how much I wanted a couch fort, but I’m at my mum’s in the middle of house moving bedlam so no couch forts for me! Today I went to the botanical gardens and snuck into one of the garden beds and crawled along the back of it until I found this special spot to sit, completely envelo...ped by this grand old magnolia. My park-fort. It did the trick, let me tell you! #resourcing #loveinatimeofcorona #naturelove #treetime #metime #rewilding #rewildyourself #beplayful #justabigkid See more

21.01.2022 A wonderful opportunity to study with Liz Koch, to deepen your intimacy with your body and particularly your psoas - ‘messenger of the midline’ as she calls it. It’s very beautiful work and I highly recommend it!!

21.01.2022 Curfew. Whoever would have thought? Not I in this lifetime. Praying that everyone in Melbourne pulls together to just get this thing done. Not me though I am homeward bound and not a moment too soon! My last night in the city and it’s blissfully quiet compared to usual. ... Goodbye Melbourne. It’s been an extraordinary time, in so many ways. I feel like a different person. I have grey hair for starters I’ll be back soon. Gonna get warm for a while and sort logistics. Oh and rest. I’m gonna rest like you don’t believe. See you later xx #homewardbound #lockdowncurfew #silentnights See more

20.01.2022 Evening beach walk. How is everyone doing? I find myself getting stronger and softer each day. Very interesting. Of course, that could change in any moment, if this year has taught me anything so far, it’s that. #isowalks #beautyonthebeach #everymomentasitcomes #loveinatimeofcorona

19.01.2022 Yesterday was Indigenous Peoples Day. Most of us are living on somebody else’s land EVERY DAY. The land I’m on right now is Bundjalung country, and sovereignty was never ceded, not here or anywhere else in Australia. Where do you stand? It’s been really impactful for me to lean into learning about the history and ongoing process of colonisation here. ... I pay my deepest respects. #alwayswasalwayswillbe See more

19.01.2022 Reasons to get up early. Thank you @holly.rigg for this beautiful place to be. 18.01.2022 Managed to be outside for sunrise AND sunset today. This image is from my morning sit-spot where I go each day to see my bird friends and get the day started with some good quality connection. I’ve been meaning to share about sit spot practice, you never know, maybe I’ll get around to it tomorrow. So busy either living in an apocalypse or sitting around watching birds and clouds these days Ended the day with a silent disco at the beach. Five friends a long way apart at... the waters edge, each with our own phone/iPod dancing to our own tunes, together but distant. It was total joy. I haven’t seen most of my friends since December because I went away and been in iso since I got home, but it was SO GOOD to ‘meet’ in this way. Just sharing the dance and the beautiful light and warm water and wild wind, no small talk, just the pure expression of heart and body parts in movement. Yes I wanted to hug them like crazy, but still, it was pretty damn good. So somehow in these strange strange times there is still room for deep connection. To the earth that holds us, to the birds and the wind, and to the people we love. Even to people we don’t know. This whole thing feels to me like it’s about stripping things down to bare essentials, revealing what’s important. 18.01.2022 Word of the day: Crepuscular A few shots from some of my recent evening walks. One thing I’ve loved about pandemia is falling into this routine of sunrise and sunset walks. ... Becoming intimate with my immediate neighbourhood in a whole new way (hello beloved mountain, hello rufous fantails and scarlet honeyeater), and marvelling at the twice-daily glory of the sun kissing the whole world hello and goodbye. Easing back into work has also been a delight, and I’ve been geeking out on the neurobiology of breath and vision. Did you know that at sunrise and sunset the blue and yellow rays are perfectly balanced, and being outside at those times is the best way to reset your brain for healthy sleep patterns? This is a natural rhythm my body has fallen into during this time - I’ve just followed its impulses, and it feels so damn good #gooutsideitsawesome #rewilding #naturetherapy #crepuscular #madwildlove #naturelove #happynervoussystem #thebodyknows See more

18.01.2022 Nature is still open for business! (Thank god) I am doing the isolation thing but I took myself out today to my favourite place for some virus-free vibes. Such a joy to plant my feet here and feel down into sweet Mama Earth and feel her load my system up with spaciousness and trust. I watched the reflected sunlight dance on the underside of the trees while I floated under them, I learned the song of a dragonfly drinking water, and these native violets told me everything... will be ok and don’t let things get to you. This virus is asking us to slow right down but instead the collective nervous system is speeding up. Take time to get your feet on the ground, listen to birds or bugs or whatever is singing, give it some time and see if anything changes in you. Sending out all my love. 17.01.2022 Keeping myself sane in the city by sticking to my routine of being outside walking or running each sunrise and sunset. It really feels amazing, to wake up and go outside, see what the day is like. This morning was like Wuthering Heights but of course I didn’t take a camera. Then it cleared up a treat and the evening was all glowy again. I’m grieving moving my mum out of this area, I get so much joy from the gardens and bluestone lanes around here. These walks are like ...a twice-daily love song. I’m really chuffed that I can find this level of connection in the big smoke too. #gooutsideitsawesome #resourceyourself #nervoussystemreset #somaticexperiencing #naturetherapy #rewildyourlife #urbanrewilding See more

16.01.2022 Today it’s noisy at my sit spot. The sun is back out at the birds are all nesting and talking about ALL THE THINGS. It’s a happy sound and lovely to sit back and just listen. In Somatic Experiencing, anchoring to the here and now through the senses is one way we help calm the brain when it’s in a state of agitation. You can do this wherever you are, but I really recommend getting out in nature and practicing building those neural pathways so they are strong when you n...eed them! 16.01.2022 I've been supporting my friend Bonnie Bliss with her amazing sexual wellness training for women since the start of the pandemic, and it's been such a joy for me. She has built a beautifully nourishing and supportive space for this meeting of the self, and I've been absolutely honoured to contribute my knowledge of the nervous system in helping to ensure that the process is safe and supportive for the women who participate, and that we can guide them through any tricky stuff t...hat emerges. The feedback has been so heart-warming, and I feel very happy to be on the threshold of welcoming another group of women in to the group as we start a new round of the course. I will be sharing lots of practical tools and some education around nervous system health, particularly around hard wiring our availability to pleasure and our experience of aliveness, and about taking things at the right pace (this is a lifetime access course and there is no rush, no pressure). Doing this work is my happy place, and it's really lovely to work with these wonderful women. If you'd like to join you can use the code GIGI to get $100 off the price. 13.01.2022 Hello friends, I've been quiet here for a good while as I've been deep in some family recalibration and came up for air just as corona cast its shadow over our lives. I have lots I'd love to share with you, but life is so unpredictable at the moment and I'm taking it a day at a time.... However one thing I can say for sure is that I'll be sharing some nervous sytem tools and perspective in this upcoming 7-day series for women from my good friend Bonnie Bliss. I'll be talking with her on Monday at 2, and I know she is planning lots of lush content for the whole week. If you feel drawn to join, it would be lovely to see you in there <3 And I will will be back here to share more with you all soon <3

08.01.2022 A mandala for hope. Imbued with my prayers for change. I appreciated the process of making this - the slowing down, the care required, the patience. 08.01.2022 This is much harder than it looks! But fun. I made this while I was doing my daily #sitspot today, that’s a nature connection practice I’m sharing lots about because it’s been so resourcing to me this year. ... When we take time to really build a relationship with nature, particularly of a particular place, there is so much mutual nourishment that happens. While I was at my spot today it started raining, so I decided to wait it out under the trees. This gave me extra time to be playful and work on this week’s #everysevendays2020 challenge which was ‘yellow’. So I trotted about collecting yellow leaves from the forest floor and gradually getting wetter and wetter. In the process of leaf hunting I realised I got curious about which leaves came from which trees, and how they were decaying differently. I also found an echidna scraping that I would have otherwise missed. So excited to know my favourite animal is skulking about in there too! The rain helped the leaves stick together but it also sometimes landed hard and moved them all askew. Much fun was had, I built stronger ropes of connection with this place, and left this little memory of sunshine as an offering to a rainy day. Came home to a cooked brekky and hot bath, refreshed and ready for the day’s jobs. Happy Sunday friends #everysevendays2020yellow #naturetherapy #ephemeralart #natureplay #earthmedicine #rewilding #gooutsideitsawesome See more

07.01.2022 Made a stained glass window today for my #sitspot. It’s been such a playful time there lately, so much exploring, making, following tracks and bird calls. I’m really feeling like a big kid there. It was cloudy when I arrived but then one sunbeam came through and I had to work fast because I was running out of time before work, and my battery was at 1%, but I got something rudimentary together and I thoroughly enjoyed it. These mornings are the best part of my days lat...ely. Go outside and play, I promise you won’t regret it. #everysevendays2020light #ephemeralart #natureconnection #earthmedicine #rewilding #gooutsideandplay See more

07.01.2022 Looking out for the small things.... Paying attention to small pleasures can be super helpful during stressful times. It’s not about ignoring our challenges or faking happiness, it’s about realising that AS WELL as the challenge there is good stuff happening too. This helps quite alarm signals in the brain and shift out neurobiology in a direction of having more capacity and resilience. The brain is hard-wired to notice unpleasant sensations quickly (so you take your h...and away from that hot plate FAST) but it saves energy by not using the same urgency around logging pleasant sensations. Ever noticed how the mind tends to dwell on problems? It’s not a character deficiency it’s your biology. It means we need to work a little harder to wire in the good sensations but it’s worth it because when we do, our brain realises things are going ok, or good, or not as bad,as the case may be... at any rate it gets a more balanced picture. Pottering around in the garden, looking for small things for my #everysevendays2020small photo, I noticed beautiful sounds, smells, the beauty in these little pom-poms. I love this challenge because it gets us outside noticing and exploring and loading up on the good feels. Thanks @clothjulie for bringing this good thing into the world #natureasmedicine #nervoussystemhealth #buildingresilience #ephemeralart #everysevendays2020 #gooitsideandplay #natureconnection #somaticexperiencing See more

06.01.2022 Hello everyone. There’s this global meditation on today at 12.45 Sydney time (you may have heard). The general gist of it is that for 20 minutes we meditate o...n the world we want to be in on the other side of all this. So that might mean that you visualise that, or that you tune in to that and dedicate your regular meditation practice to it. There’s loads of evidence that group meditation is powerful, that it can shift our actual experience. Eg experiments where group meditations were held in neighbourhoods with high crime rates and they went down. There’s a lot of fear around right now, here’s an opportunity to plant something different. And if you believe in astrology, this is a really significant moment - whatever happens now gets magnified. What we sow now, we reap. If you can join, please do. Nothing to lose, right? Much love to you all See more

06.01.2022 So I was having a really awesome bath after a super hard day, and marvelling at how well the bath was working to chill me right out, and then I had some really profound thoughts about the nervous system I wanted to share with y’all. So I tried to capture the moment on my phone (which was playing peaceful piano music for me), but that ensued in me dropping this nice red candle in the bath and pretty much killing the vibe lol. In the kerfuffle I forgot what profound stuff ...I was gonna say about the nervous system, but I GOT THE PICS SO HERE THEY ARE. Anyway, still feeling pretty damn content, it’s amazing how medicinal a few candles and some gentle piano music can be, even if you do end up wrecking your mums birthday present and having a bath full of red wax. I hope your day was ok and you are finding good ways to keep your nervous system happy See more

04.01.2022 I drove through a LOT of burnt country these last few weeks. I don’t know that I even want to say much about it, except that it was a lot. Many years ago when I worked in the bush we often did follow up work for several years after ecological burns. In some cases, it was a LOT of work. There doesn’t seem to be money for that now, according to friends of mine still working in the field there is barely even any proper survey work being done in the bushfire areas now. Wh...at they told me, and I saw for myself, was a wide variation in how different sites are responding (to be expected, so many variables in both fire behaviour and ecosystem context). With a heavy heart I remembered how excited we were about fire back in those days. How lucky we felt to work in those sites afterwards and witness layers of life pushing back.... I remember one place came up an absolute FIELD of chocolate lilies where had been dense shrubby midstorey prior to the fire. I remember working all day in the heady chocolate scent surrounded by blooms the colour of Cadbury. Somehow on this trip, I could see the beauty, I could marvel at the new perspectives I had on places I thought I knew well, but I could not for a moment feel that same excitement that I used to. I made this image 6 days ago, literally moments after reading the new prompt for #everysevendays2020, where @clothjulie asked us to go out and fill the world with good words for others to find. I didn’t even think about it, I just saw burnt banksia cones and the word formed itself. Nobody will find it I imagine, tucked away up a fire trail behind a wall of burnt sticks. But there it is, a message from somewhere, a reminder, a tiny prayer. #everysevendays2020goodwords #ephemeralart #naturetherapy #natureconnection #bushfirerecovery #regrowth #climatechangeisreal See more

03.01.2022 Wild and delicate times! So much hanging in the balance... How do you keep grounded in a time like this? I’m studying and working online, SO not my natural habitat, gahhh.... I find myself fleeing to wild places every chance I get. Today in between crazy marathon stints of zoom I took myself off bird hunting and I stayed there wandering in the quiet until it had soaked into my bones. ... Nature knows.
