25.01.2022 Our volunteers not only support our local community but also our colleagues interstate when the call for assistance comes in. SA State Emergency Service staff and volunteers are deploying to Queensland to support the storm recovery after the severe weather that impacted south east Queensland over the weekend. Thank you to everyone involved in this deployment. We’re proud to assist our fellow emergency services across the nation.
24.01.2022 With a fair bit of rain expected this week we’re encouraging home owners to take action to protect their homes from potential flooding. Are your gutters and down pipes blocked with leaves and debris? Are they flowing freely and your storm water pipes free of any blockages? Do they look like the below picture?... NOW is the time to check and clean your gutters, preventative maintenance reduces the risk of flooding and damage to your house. If you need to take precautionary action and sandbag an area, sandbag packs are available for collection at 19 Stephen Street, Norwood 24 hours a day. If you need our assistance for any Storm or Flood Emergency please call 132 500. If your situation is life threatening immediately call 000
24.01.2022 Last night we partnered with Burnside Village Centre in a community engagement event to chat with our community about preparing and coping with heatwaves. Thanks to Jake, the operations manager, and his staff for their great support, the staff of local shops who made us feel very welcome and of course our community members for stopping to say hi, pat our very well behaved dog and listen to our important message. We were very heartened with the number of caring people who took our fact sheets to pass onto neighbors and friends.
23.01.2022 Two of our volunteers received awards earlier this week to commemorate their milestones. Hayden received the 5 year certificate in recognition of his service. Toni, Deputy Unit Manager received the Long Service Medal to recognise 10 years of service with the State Emergency Service. ... Congratulations to both for these fantastic achievements. We thank the Deputy Chief Officer for attending the unit to present the awards and provide an update on the SES.
22.01.2022 Today we assisted Adelaide and Hills Koala Rescue to rescue an injured koala - wishing it a speedy recovery. It was wonderful to work with together as a team - a great effort by all. If you see a koala that is ill, injured or in distress, call them on 1300Koalaz (1300 562 529).
22.01.2022 Check out the Emergency Plus app that uses GPS functionality built into smart phones to help a triple zero caller provide critical location details.
21.01.2022 Last week Eastern Suburbs had a change over of the Deputy Unit Manager position. Toni has stepped down after three years to concentrate on other aspects of her contribution to SES. We would all like to thank Toni for her great leadership. You can see our appreciation of Toni from the many positive comments appearing alongside her picture below. We also would like to welcome Kerry as the new DUM and say how much we are looking forward to working with him.
19.01.2022 With the new year here, now is a good time to have a look at our homes and ways that we can be prepared.

18.01.2022 What steps are you taking to prepare for the showers later this week?
18.01.2022 Wind and thunderstorms are coming. By planning and preparing you can reduce your risk and mitigate any adverse effects. Stay safe!
17.01.2022 What steps are to taking today to secure loose items before the winds are due later this evening?
17.01.2022 Whilst we as an community take a pause over the next few days, we would like to shine a light on our Unit Manager - Ian, as part of the lead up to International Men's Day. Ian inspires us all
15.01.2022 Last night Cheryl and Leah from 1300Koalaz attended the unit to provide our members a training session about: rescuing koalas, when a koala rescue is required techniques and equipment used and protecting volunteers during a rescue. ... We then undertook an activity where we 'rescued' a koala from a nearby tree putting into practice what we learnt. This information sharing, collaboration and building relationships assists us on the ground when we respond together to requests for assistance.
12.01.2022 It's fantastic when we can collaborate together and support other units and communities during their time of need.
12.01.2022 Our crews have landed and have got stuck into helping QLD straight away.
10.01.2022 A huge shout out to our amazing volunteers.
09.01.2022 Over the past few days we have provided assistance to SA Health undertaking a number of support tasks. We would like to do a massive shout out to all the nurses and front-line staff who have spent days on their feet, in hot PPE, undertaking swabs and keeping the lines looked after. You are amazing! To the site managers and security who look after the sites, making sure the shelters don't blow away and keeping the sites secure - you do a great job... We also know there are many behind the scenes doing great work. We say thank you.
08.01.2022 And just like that, we’re going from hot weather to rain again. If you experience heavy rainfall where you are, take steps to keep safe. If roads become flooded..., forget it! Cars can float in as little as 15cm of water, so find another way or wait till the floodwater has gone and it’s safe to drive. Monitor the Bureau of Meteorology website and social media to stay up-to-date with the weather. And, monitor the SA Infrastructure and Transport outback road warnings for road closure information. If you need SES assistance, call 132 500. For life-threatening emergencies, call triple zero (000) immediately. Find more tips on our website. https://www.ses.sa.gov.au/flood/ Outback road warnings: https://www.dpti.sa.gov.au/OutbackRoads
08.01.2022 Last night our colleagues from Burnside CFS visited the unit to undertake joint training working through a large incident scenario and equipment and vehicle familiarisation. This session built on other joint training opportunities throughout the year as well as discovering a few new tips and tricks and learning new names and faces. Many thanks to Burnside CFS and their members for coming out last night.
06.01.2022 Last night our crews responded to this request for assistance Crews worked alongside our colleagues from MFS Adelaide and Beulah Park to secure the site.
06.01.2022 Merry Xmas to all in our community. It's been a privilege to help you throughout the year. A big thank you to all the family members and employers who have unwaveringly supported our volunteers. Your support is vital in enabling us to respond regardless of day or time. We shall be here for you over the holiday period. For storm and flood call 132 500.
