15.01.2022 Remembering those who have fought /died in conflict...

13.01.2022 October is history month, and Gippsland is steeped in history. Take the Alberton Cemetery for example. It dates back to the early 1820s and there are over 1400 ...records of people buried in the grounds. Earlier this year the cemetery was featured on ‘Who do you think you are?’ as Bairnsdale born actor Kat Stewart retraced her family’s heritage and found that her great grandfather was buried there. Up until March this year, Port Albert Progress Association was running tours of the cemetery, which attracted a number of visitors to the area. The tours included a history lesson on the pioneers of the local area, such as Agnes Gellion, the tragic story of the Howden family and the first burial of a European settler Robert McClure in 1842. While the tours are not happening at present, visitors are welcome to take a wander through this beautifully maintained cemetery, situated on the banks of the Albert River, and immerse themselves in the history of the area. Alberton Cemetery is around 10 minutes from Yarram on the way to Port Albert. #lovegippsland See more

07.01.2022 Our SAG Volunteers do some amazing work! We regularly receive significant donations from our members of research across many decades - this can mean sorting, di...gitising and cataloguing boxes of materials including family trees, certificates and reports. It might not look much from the outside but this is family history gold that enters our MIDAS catalogue! We are aiming to receive mostly digital material in the future and keep going back to the catalogue, there might just be something of interest thanks to our awesome Vols! http://midas.sag.org.au/ See more
