13.01.2022 2020/21 Metropolitan Pennant Season Expected: November 2020 Alternative Option: January 2021 After originally stating an 18-round season will take place for this season’s Metropolitan Pennant Competition from September 26th, we wish to advise that due to the 2nd outbreak of COVID-19 in Victoria, the starting date will be postponed to later in 2020.... The Metropolitan Pennant Season will now be scheduled to commence on Saturday November 7th (Weekend Pennant) and Tuesday November 10th (Midweek Pennant). Aside from Premier Division, the competition structures for the Midweek & Weekend Pennant seasons will now be 14 rounds across the home and away season, followed by a regular finals season, concluding in late March. Divisions will be comprised of 10 sections of 8 teams (5 sections of 8 teams for Division 1), minimising travel requirements for clubs. The Premier Division competition structure will be confirmed in late August. Promotion and relegation information will be released in our late September update. New Competitions (6-a-side & 7-a-side): After a positive response from the Metropolitan Pennant entries gathered in July, both the 6-a-side Spring Saturday Morning Competition and the Spring Thursday 7-a-side Competition will run this season. More information will be sent to clubs on the 7-a-side Competition soon. This competition will have no entry fee for the first two seasons (Spring & Summer). Future Pennant Information: We ask Clubs and players to be flexible for Season 20/21 as Bowls Victoria evaluates scenarios around returning to play Metropolitan Pennant. Bowls Victoria will need to be given permission from the Victorian State Government for the number of players to return to 32 per green due to COVID-19 restrictions. Alternative timeslots for play may be required for clubs that have more sides entered than green space available, given the level of COVID-19 restrictions that may continue to be in place. For planning purposes, Bowls Victoria will assess the likelihood of continuing with the below schedule, and by the end of September will make a decision as to whether starting at a later date will be in the best interests of the health and safety of our Pennant playing members. At the end of September, if Bowls Victoria proceeds with the below dates, a provisional draw will be sent to clubs following the announcement. If health and safety is a concern for commencing Pennant in November, a later commencement date would involve a compacted season commencing on Saturday January 16th (Weekend Pennant) and Tuesday 19th January (Midweek Pennant), for as many weeks

07.01.2022 * Edit 9/9 - note this advice currently applies to the whole of Victoria, understanding that there will be variances as Metro and Regional Vic move through the ...different stages. We don't expect to have an update or any changes relating to playing bowls until late September. While it was good to see some sunshine today, it is clear we are going through tough times. It’s tough for clubs and tough for us individually. But together we can get through this with some Victorian spirit #VICSDOITBETTER #GOVICS We return to bowls this season, and I’m sure like us, you can’t wait. Below are some details on our upcoming competitions which are changing in line with the announcements made by the Victorian Premier, Daniel Andrews: : the announcement from the Premier yesterday leaves some uncertainty about whether we can commence the season on the date we have previously advised (November 7 for Weekend Pennant and November 10 for Midweek Pennant). We have had multiple starting dates and plans for some time, and still have several options to come. We will make this decision once the government provides specific guidance on when we can return to clubs and what restrictions on number of participants is known. We imagine this will take 2-3 weeks for government announcements to be finalised. When we can provide this advice, it will include other competitions such as Junior League, 6-a-side and 7-a-side competitions. With regard to the conclusion of last seasons’ , we have no choice but to postpone them to January 2021. Given the time of year, they are likely to be held in Warrnambool for the benefit of the cooler climate. We will confirm this in the coming weeks. We will return to Bendigo for the coming seasons’ State Championships (2020-21), usually held in April. We will make all decisions as soon as we can (once we know more from the government in terms of specifics regarding community sport) and will endeavour to give as much notice as possible to assist clubs with their planning. We ask for your patience and understanding as we do everything we can to get everyone back playing, ensuring it is in a safe and responsible manner. Regards, Team BV

05.01.2022 Congratulations to our club President Matt Perkins for winning this award

05.01.2022 Dear Member Clubs, We first must say that we are very aware of the impact of Covid-19 on our community and feel a great deal of empathy towards individuals and ...clubs. These are tough times. Our thoughts are with anyone who is unwell, and we wish them a speedy recovery. The damage caused by Covid-19 worldwide is nothing short of horrific. In a financial sense, we hope all clubs and members don’t experience hardship, but that’s not the reality and we too have friends/family who have been stood down from work and clubs impacted. We know this will be felt by many. As you are aware, the BV Board set the 2020-21 affiliation fee at no increase on last year, with extended payment terms and an expanded hardship program before the 2nd wave of COVID-19. What we had hoped, was that we would be back playing by now. Unfortunately, that’s not the case and we have seen more damaging lockdowns with Stage 4 in Metropolitan Melbourne and Stage 3 in Regional Victoria. We appreciate how hard this situation is on our member clubs and are looking to our State Government for financial assistance. Our position after our Board meeting today is to see what the State Government announcement will be once the current Government-enforced lockdown is reviewed in mid-September. We are hopeful that by that time we will have a clearer picture on the impact to the 2020-21 season. The Board’s intention is to reduce affiliation fees for this year in line with the impact to the season and the measures that some other states have undertaken. Naturally the detail is fluid given the current situation which we are watching closely. We have also resolved today to waive any payment for Pennant Permits this coming season as we know many bowlers will be having difficulties travelling from clubs to their homes due to border closures/restrictions. Please be patient with us, we want to make sure we are making the right decision and not constantly making subsequent decisions as the situation changes. Keep well and keep safe. President (on behalf of the BV Board)
