22.01.2022 Rest in Peace J.J. Rawlings Khalid Osman On Saturday, November 14, former Ghanaian President Jerry John Rawlings died at the hospital in the capital, Accra, after a short illness. The late president had a charismatic personality. When he first seized power, he launched a powerful campaign against corruption, he was responsible for executing many former heads of state for theft and mismanagement. To the Ghanaian people he was the hero of the poor, but he was also been critic...ized for his documented human rights violations in that African country. when I went to work in Ghana in 1998, Jerry Rawlings was still its elected president, I witnessed a confident construction experience in various fields. Ghana is considered one of the fastest growing countries in the world and the second country in gold production in Africa after South Africa. An example of surprising economic stability in diversified exports built on rich resources, this resulted from a history of resistance led by inspiring leaders such as Kwame Nkrumah and Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings, where revolutionary Ghanaian President Jerry Rawlings played a major role in Ghana's modern renaissance. Rawlings had graduated as the best war student pilot with he rank of a lieutenant, after which he led a failed coup attempt to be sentenced to death, which was not carried out, when his colleagues brought him out detention to lead a successful coup whose aim was to fight corruption, so that power would be handed over to a civilian government within only 3 months, declaring the Third Republic in the state of Ghana, yet the Third Republic did not last long, until Lieutenant Rawlings attacked again in 1981. Rawlings, the beloved by the people of Ghana at the time, was able to transform the efforts of the youth and students into a striking force in order to combat corruption and build the country, setting the ideal in building with the youth in paving roads, laying railways, planning farms, constructing bridges, and linking the struggle of the Ghanaian people with countries looking towards emancipation from Capitalism, as he carries a left-wing thinking and orientation at that time. Rawlings was rightfully the perfect example in the struggle against neo-colonialism and the adoption of African nationalism, furthermore within Ghana, Jerry was able to continue the efforts of construction and the recovery of the economy with his permanent presence among the masses in the development sites. Rawlings continued his democratically elected career for the 1993 and 1996 periods, It is true that he returned to cooperate with the international community and its institutions, but from a position of strength without a doubt.
