Unfortunately due to COVID restrictions Junior Blast will likely look very different this year. Although scheduled for February, we are hoping to commence before Christmas pending registrations.... With new EBH Junior Blasters already registered, we're looking for new players to join the Blast Crew! If you know anyone with a child aged 5-8 that would like to get started with cricket and learn the basics with some fun activities and games - please get in touch or share this with them! Angus is an experienced Junior coach having worked with now Junior Coordinator, Eddy Suidgeest and most of this group previously. Speaking of the season ahead, Angus had this to say: "Our U16's this year have plenty of potential with some well known superstars leading a mix of strong and experienced players in their first year into U16's, with some EBH talent coming out of retirement to join the team. After two consecutive year's making the Grand final in 16B grade - this group definitely has the ability to get there in what will be a season like no other." 20.01.2022 MCGARY/KENEALY MEDAL 2019/20 Thanks for staying with us folks as we head into the final awards for the year. We’ll have our final award on Thursday 23rd July, coinciding with happy hour. The first two being a couple of awards that were able to be presented before lockdown number one.... First up, the McGary/Kenealy Medal. The medal is awarded to the junior player who receives the most votes at the end of the Home & Away season. Votes are awarded by the team coaches, who may seek advice or guidance from the club coach and junior coordinators. 1st Place Tom Simmons 29 votes 2nd Place Joshua Gill 20 votes 3rd Place Arnav Chobisa 16 votes It’s probably no surprise that each of these players went on to win the club champion trophy in their respective grades. 17.01.2022 Vets XI Club Champion 2019/20 Rohan Phillips The Vets club championship this season was a very close run race with only just over 6 points separating the top 3.... Coming in 3rd was Dwayne Smith with 50.59 pts, the coach Leigh Newey coming in 2nd place with 55.95pts and the winner of the Vets Club Championship was the skipper Rohan Phillips on 56.82 pts. A great season by the skipper, evident by winning the bowling award and finishing 3rd in the batting award. Well done Skip.

15.01.2022 1st XI Bowling Award 2019/20 Daniel O'Shea 57 wickets @ 10.14... Well after what was a great year for our bowling group, the group bowled in pairs fantastically throughout the whole season. We saw Papa become the golden arm; Jake take the new ball and also the Gauld brothers snaring us early wickets throughout the year. But the man to reap the most reward was Danny O’Shea and what a year it was for him. His stats are truly unbelievable in the 15 matches we played he bowled 247 overs taking 57 wickets for the season at an average only just over 10. In this he took 7 bags of 5 wickets which included his 7/85 in the toughest bowling conditions of the season. His pure class and thinking of his craft is purely 2nd to none, the way he would out think, outplay and outclass batsmen is beyond description. Truly a fantastic season with the ball. Congratulations Danny

15.01.2022 DOUG McDONALD MEDAL 2019/20 The Doug McDonald medal is awarded to the senior player who receives the most votes at the end of the Home & Away season. Votes are awarded by the team captain, who may seek advice or guidance from his teammates. This year saw Danny go back to back polling in 8 games and amassing 27 votes for the season.... 1st Place Danny O’Shea 27 votes 2nd Place Pat Breen 13 votes 3rd Place Charlie Leong 12 votes It was fantastic to see so many juniors polling throughout the year as we’ve seen with the awards across the grades. 11.01.2022 Mick Newey - Most Improved 2019/20 Following the untimely passing of Life Member Mick Newey, your committee recently discussed the valuable legacy Grizz had left the club. From his time as President, club coach, practice co-ordinator, captain and team mate to the more private encouragement and guidance Mick provided, he has left an indelible mark on East Box Hill club life. Mick was a very important sounding board and mentor in my early days on committee, and I hope I have ...been able to impart some of his work ethic and organisational skills to younger colleagues over the years. Your committee has chosen to recognise and celebrate Mick’s achievements by naming our yearly Most Improved Player award after him. The first recipient of the newly named honour is Patrick Breen . Pat has had a very impressive year in both junior and senior ranks, having won the 3rd XI bowling and finishing 4th in the batting. His support of the club in general and his dedication to the art of leg spin bowling makes him an important part of our junior development program and a most valuable member of the EBH family. 08.01.2022 DARREN REID INCENTIVE AWARD 2019/20 Jake McIldowney This award is for the player whose performance on the field upholds all aspects of the spirit of cricket and off the field regularly supports the Club’s social functions and endeavours.... Well done to the committee for choosing such a deserving winner. This young man has grown year upon year, on field and off field and embedded himself as a true breaker. I mentioned in my president’s report that we had some quality men who have come through our junior program ann Jake is a prime example. You’ll see Jake at every training session, every event, in our first eleven and helping around the club wherever needed. This award isn’t so much about just doing those things but doing them in a manner that reflects the values of an East Box Hill Clubman. What makes Jake stand out is his humility, his kindness and his willingness to give, in both effort and time. All the efforts are paying off on field and we already know what a gentleman he is off field. If I could’ve written the script to our Howard Wilson Shield Grand Final and chosen the player to hit the winning runs I’d choose Jake every day of the week. I can’t wait to see what you achieve in the future Jake! Congratulations!!

08.01.2022 Howard Wilson Best Clubman Award - 2019/20. Cam White Surprise!! Ok, so it’s not really going to be that much of a surprise that the committee voted the best clubman to be Cameron White. The man who I’ve known as Prez, Pam & Cam, is currently my right hand man and I am absolutely thrilled that he is 2019/20 Howard Wilson Best Clubman.... Cam’s time at East Box Hill started long before I knew him and in my short time I have grown to love the club and understand why he and so many others give so much to the club. We reflected just the other week about the first time we ever spoke, on the phone after dad passed away. We may not have known each other all that long but it feels like we’ve always known each other. We have East Box Hill Cricket Club to thank for that. It wouldn’t be the place that it is, or have the family feel, without people like Cam. Coming back onto committee this year after a number of years off, with a young family (and we’re so very lucky to get to see more of Nat, Rex and Toby with Cam spending more time at the club this year) and not just being happy to step back into the secretary role he decided to run the canteen as well. That fryer got quite the workout this season! With Cam manning it most of the time. He let some of us at it on occasion but they were few and far between. Battered Cheese Kransky’s just edging out the Sweet Chilli Tender Rolls for the most popular food on a Saturday. Parma and Chips being the standout on a Thursday night. Your efforts throughout the year Cam, have been nothing short of outstanding and it’s about bloody time you won your first best clubman award. Dad would be so proud of you. Thank you so much for all of your support. I feel so lucky to call you my friend. Congratulations on being Howard Wilson Best Clubman.

05.01.2022 1st XI Club Champion 2019/20 Daniel O'Shea Well I guess its not breaking news, but on the back of a phenomenal 57 wicket season and in excess of 400 runs the 1st XI club champion is the man pictured above Daniel O’Shea.... What a year he’s had, from a personal point of view Danny really matured as a cricketer this year and this showed in his consistency. He started the year opening the batting and by Christmas was batting middle order and when this happened all he said is what ever is best for the team. His power hitting was certainly entertaining especially witnessing his 163, this combined with his class with ball in hand made every moment on field entertaining. Well done mate on a stella season. I look forward to going into battle to take on Mac this season.

01.01.2022 PRESIDENT'S AWARD 2019/20 This award is awarded to the member or non member who has rendered special assistance to the president. This makes two years in a row for Trevor winning a president’s award, winning as part of the McGary Family in 2018/19 under Gilly as president. Trevor is someone who just does the little things, always. In a year where we started to create more opportunities for members to help out across the club, Trevor was the first to put his name up on the boa...rd. What better way to show support than to lead by example. Week in week out there was always something Trevor would help out with, even when we had to host clubs at our ground so they had a neutral ground to play finals on, Trevor was there, cleaning the rooms to make sure we put our best efforts into being host. If he wanted to know something, he asked the question. We can all learn from Trevor. If you see something that needs doing, do it. If you’re given the opportunity to share your story and your part in the history of our club, do it. 01.01.2022 1st XI Batting Award 2019/20 Sam Drury 442 runs @ 34.00... In a year that saw our batting being a bit Jekyll and Hyde we had 3 batsmen hit over 350 runs for the season. With the average up for grabs going into the finals it was any ones to take.
