23.01.2022 Poor 'Moose' ate a blue bottle jellyfish at the beach and was rushed in by his quick thinking parents! He suffered a nasty reaction as he was being stung in the mouth and further internally, so after some much needed medication and tlc he was able to go home. We are happy to report he's okay and hopefully won't be munching on any jellies again!

23.01.2022 Beautiful Maggie the Springer Spaniel was rushed to us last week, as she was having trouble delivering her last two puppies. 22.01.2022 Please be aware of the dog blitz starting next week in the Break O'Day area. Beaches will be heavily restricted for our canine friends to help protect shore birds on the beach. Parks and Wildlife will be monitoring the situation, so check out the zoning map below for more information.

21.01.2022 Tonight coming through Beaumaris we've spotted a Wallaby with an arrow lodged through it's head. It's still very mobile and we were unable to get a photo or assess it. It's not safe to catch it, so please don't attempt this. If anyone happens to see the Wallaby, please report ASAP to the DPIPWE Wildlife Management Branch 03 6165 4305 and the local police. Crossbow hunting is illegal and a serious act of animal cruelty, so if you know who is responsible please report them to the above authorities.

17.01.2022 Today Mr and Mrs Rabbit, both Giant X, visited us for a health check and vaccination. They weigh more than 12kg combined! How gorgeous are they? Rabbit owners, please be aware that calici virus (rabbit hemorrhagic disease) has again recently been released in Tasmania, and while the vaccination (Cylap) does not cover the current virus (RHDV2), there are still ways to protect your buns! These include but are not limited to the following:... - It is still strongly recommended to have your rabbits vaccinated with Cylap against the RHDV1 & RHDV1- K5 type, at least every 6 months. - As parasites, insects and rodents can be vectors its best to flea treat your rabbits regularly and have insect and vermin proof mesh or netting on housing. - Limit any contact with wild rabbits - Keep hay stored away safely for 12months prior to use - Regular cleaning and decontamination of housing is important. There is a lot of info online about this, but check out the local welfare organizations, like the RSPCA for help with this. If you have sudden loss of rabbits for no apparent reason OR if they have symptoms such as lethargy, vocalization, appetite loss, convulsions and bleeding from the nose and/or elsewhere please contact us or your regular vet ASAP. For more information, see the DPIPWE website dpipwe.tas.gov.au/invasive-species

14.01.2022 Tonight we are reintroducing you all to Nurse Helen Helen grew up in a small north London suburb. Animal mad from the moment she could identify anything small and furry, by the age of four Helen managed to persuade her parents to buy her a pet hamster. Helen began her career a...s Junior Secretary in the commercial department of a North London football club and progressed through the ranks to become Office Manager. After 13 years, she got a free transfer and began a seven year stint in a similar role at Newmarket Racecourse. The next five years were spent working within the Capital Projects Team at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge, providing admin support for several multi-million pound capital works projects. Helen and husband Ron moved to Tasmania in September 2013, settling in Rons home town of St Helens. Helen is an active member of the community and enjoys volunteering roles with StarFM, Medea Park, St Helens Neighbourhood House, Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary and St Helens District High School. 11.01.2022 Marine Conservation Program staff have received a report about an entangled humpback whale calf off Tasmania's east coast. The calf and its mother were seen ne...ar Schouten Island yesterday afternoon and were travelling south at the time. The calf appears to be trailing rope and buoys. Marine conservation experts conducted an extensive aerial survey this morning to try to locate the whale to better assess the entanglement but did not spot the whale. Members of the public are asked to keep an eye out for this whale and report any sightings to the whale hotline on 0427 WHALES. Anyone who spots the whale is asked to accurately record its location and the direction it is heading and phone the hotline for further advice. Whales are powerful animals capable of causing injury or death and the public should not attempt any rescue.

05.01.2022 Everybody meet Nurse Jenna! How lucky we are here at the ECVC, to have such awesome nurses with diverse passions and interests. Jenna moved to Tasmania, from Canada in 2005. She started working at East Coast Veterinary Clinic in 2007 and has loved being a part of it ever since. She has completed certificate 2 in Animal Studies through Animal Industries Resource Centre (Provet). Jenna, her husband Matt and boys Hunter and Lincoln, enjoy life with the companionship of a menagerie of pets. In her spare time, she enjoys riding the mountain bike trails with her two boys, playing netball and beach time.

05.01.2022 A friend of ours here at ECVC is raising money for Stubby, a 2 year old labrador to have his cruciate repaired by the lovely Dr Chris Allfree at Brighter Futures. Stubbys future was looking bleak and Leah stepped in to help. North East Animal Sanctuary has taken Stubby on, see their page for updates and donation details are in the below post

05.01.2022 We love our nurses here at the ECVC and wed really like to reintroduce them to you all. Tracey, Jenna and Helen have all worked at the clinic for a while and we will be sharing some of their interests and passions! Starting today with Nurse Tracey... Tracey and Robert Brasington came to St Helens in 1993. After a long career in horticulture culminating in working for the largest nursery in England, they had decided to convert their hobby of making and flying kites into a... business. Where better to do that than their home state of Tasmania on the beautiful east coast. They still make and export kites all over the world and can often be seen flying them on local beaches. Tracey started at East Coast Vet Clinic in 2008 as a part time vet nurse and gardener; a perfect combination of fauna and flora. They have a large garden which is also used as a racetrack by Stella(Whippet) and Alice (Scottish deerhound), their current sight hounds. See more

04.01.2022 Weve had reports of some fairly wild weather, with more to come. Stay safe everyone and give us a call to reschedule if its too dangerous for you to get to the clinic!
