22.01.2022 HOCKEY ALBURY WODONGA Cancels 2016 Easter Carnival The Albury Wodonga Easter Hockey Carnival has reluctantly been cancelled this year as it requires a review of the format stated President of Hockey Albury Wodonga, Bert Eastoe. This follows a decline in team entries from a peak of over 150 teams in the late 1980’s to 12 teams last year. This year there has been overseas interest, however local and regional interest has not justified holding the Carnival. Hockey Albury ...Wodonga in late 2015 sent a survey to over 400 contacts including State Associations, Clubs, and player contacts, many of whom have participated in the annual carnival since its inception over 60 years ago. In the early years it was a hall mark event signalling the start of the major winter competition where players and clubs used it as their warm up and first competitive games as well as social fixture. Back then camping at Mungabareena reserve was prevalent, and there was evening entertainment at the Performing Arts Centre. The clubs and motels were full with hockey players, other sports participants, visitors and travellers. In the last ten years demand has changed with increased synthetic surfaces, indoor hockey and other sports and activities competing for player time and commitment. The Hockey Albury Wodonga survey had over 170 respondents and most reported that the Carnival had been a significant event on their sports calendar between winter and summer sports. It was unique in that it allowed in some instances, generations of family members to unite and compete as family groups. The Board of Hockey Albury Wodonga have formed a working party to develop a plan to hold the Carnival in 2017 with assistance and guidance being sought from Hockey Australia, Hockey Victoria and Hockey ACT. We recognise that this is an important event on the regional Sports Calendar as well as an opportunity to be part of the Australian Hockey calendar, and we look forward to a fresh and revamped event in 2017.

12.01.2022 https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/easterhockey2016 We have put together a short survey about the Easter Carnival to see if there is enough interest to keep the carnival going or not. Please take the time to do it please as it will determine if we hold a Easter Carnival next year or not. If you need any Questions answered send us a message Tony White
