21.01.2022 Sometimes sexist comments are made by people who don’t understand that their attitudes and behaviours are harmful. That’s why it’s important to call it out. What’s obvious for you may not be for them. Respectfully informing them could help them to understand and support them to change their behaviour.... Changing harmful attitudes might not happen overnight. The more valuable conversations we have that challenge these kinds of behaviours, the closer we will get to achieving a gender equal society for all. 09.01.2022 Recently EDVOS received a beautiful new artwork for our office. This is ‘Yeelugna Dutan Evening Star’ by local artist and Wurundjeri/Yorta-Yorta woman Simone Thomson. Simone and her mother, Elder Aunty Zeta Thomson, were part of the Welcome Baby to Country event EDVOS held in March for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mothers and their children to be welcomed onto Country and into community. At the time, Simone had just opened her solo exhibition ‘Exhale’ at the Queen... Victoria Women’s Centre and we fell in love with her vivid and expressive artworks. Yeelugna Dutan will hang in our main office and help create a welcoming and safe space for women and children accessing our services. Thank you Simone Thomson for allowing us to purchase this gorgeous piece of Artwork.
