13.01.2022 Today, May 26th, is Sorry Day. This day remembers the Stolen Generations, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were forcibly taken from their families. In 1997 the Bringing Them Home Report was tabled. This national inquiry brought to light over 500 first hand accounts of forced removal. Stories of pain, abuse and trauma.... In 2017, we mark 20 years since the report was released. A new report has been created to mark this anniversary the "Bringing Them Home: 20 years on: an action plan for healing". This report reaffirms the need for truth, rememberance and healing for the Stolen Generations and their families. #BTH20 #SorryDay

11.01.2022 NAIDOC WEEK 2017: 2nd July - 9th July 2017 NAIDOC Week celebrates the survival of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people, culture and their continuing contributions to Australia. All Australians are encouraged to celebrate NAIDOC Week. The national theme for 2017 is: Our Languages Matter... This theme celebrates the unique and essential role that Indigenous languages play in cultural identity, linking people to their land and water and in the transmission of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, spirituality and rites, through story and song. Some 250 distinct Indigenous language groups and many more dialects covered the continent at first European contact in the late eighteenth century. Today only around 120 of those languages are still spoken and many are at risk of being lost as Elders pass on. For more information on NAIDOC Week and events across the nation, check out the NAIDOC Website: http://www.naidoc.org.au/
