12.01.2022 Did you know? Vivid and bizarre dreams or experiencing the same dreams night after night, could be sign of stress. Whether you enjoy or easily tolerate weird dreams, it’s important to examine any potential reasons behind them. Recurring dreams can take a toll on you mentallyespecially if they’re upsettingbut even if they aren’t. Bizarre dreams can make you feel tired and on edge, which ultimately impact other areas of your life, like work and family. If you’ve started dreaming a lot, and if they’re bizarre and / or recurring dreams, take stock of any life changes or added stress to see if there’s a trigger.
05.01.2022 Did you know July is national stress down month?? What are your coping strategies? Here are a few of our favorites! 1. Just Breath... Sounds simple enough, but it is surprising how often we are constricting our oxygen intake with shallow breathing. When you feel stress creep in or begin to feel overwhelmed, step away for a moment and take a few big, slow, deep breaths. Your body and mind will thank you. 2. Get Moving Yep, by just moving you are relieving stress, and regular exercise will help your body in more ways than one. With physical activity you increase your feel-good endorphins and these enhance your overall sense of well-being. By getting up and moving, you increase mental focus and you are giving yourself permission to let that stress go while you exercise. 3. Laughter is Good Medicine Humor can help melt away stress and bring a positive vibe to your day. Laughter actually helps to cool down your stress response. So read some jokes (endless supply online), go to a comedy club, or watch a funny movie with friends. 4. Get Connected You may typically be a social butterfly, but stress can make the most friendly person want to wrap themselves up in a cocoon. If you feel like this is your reaction to stress, take a moment to give a friend a call or schedule a time to meet with someone you can talk to. Often if we just get out and escape the stress for a bit, we can come back to it and be in a better state-of-mind to deal with it. 5. Assert yourself The word no can be one of the most powerful words. When you say yes, it may seem like the best solution to prevent conflict or get the job done right. But the internal conflict this may cause can lead to additional stress, as well as anger and resentment. Before you give an answer to a request for your time, make sure you give yourself time to consider how the commitment will impact you. So in honor of Stress Awareness Month, take some time out to get more informed and become better aware of how stress is...
04.01.2022 The Male factor: this week Louise Johnson breaks down some facts about male fertility: 1. Male infertility affects about one in 20 men. For about one in five (heterosexual) couples having trouble getting pregnant, the fertility problem lies solely with the guy. 2. A man’s age also impacts on a woman’s ability to conceive and have a healthy baby. The quality of a man’s sperm decreases over time. As a man ages, it takes longer for him to get a woman pregnant. There’s also an in...creased risk of a woman not conceiving at all. Whatever the age of the mother, the risk of miscarriage is higher if the father is over 45. As men age, the children they father are at greater risk of autism, mental health problems and learning difficulties. 3. Smokers beware! Tobacco smoking is not only a well-known case of lung cancer, emphysema and heart disease, it also reduces fertility. Men who smoke heavily produce up to 20 per cent fewer sperm. Tobacco smoke also damages the sperm’s DNA the genetic material that’s going to ‘make up’ your child. 4. Men create sperm approximately every 70 days, so if you’re trying to conceive, make sure that the sperm is as healthy as it can be. 5. While there’s no evidence that wearing ‘budgie smugglers’ affects men’s fertility, it’s true that hot testes have trouble making sperm. So men who want to make a baby should stay away from hot baths, spas and saunas and wear boxer shorts to be on the safe side.
