24.01.2022 2020 ESRA Tournament Sat 15 & Sun 16 February Westerfolds Bayswater 3 James Street Bayswater... Thank you to all ESRA players supporting this weekends event. When entries closed, the number of 2020 Autumn Pennant players registered to play, or assisting with the organisation of the tournament totalled 54. This is a great result and we thank you all most sincerely. All profits from the tournament will be directed to support members of the Squash & Racquetball community affected by the Bushfires. Our main sources of profit include canteen profits and proceeds of the raffles held on both days. All food has been donated as have all raffle prizes so anything you contribute to the canteen or the raffle will go directly to Bushfire relief. Those of you who are unable to play due to injury or who have competing commitments may like to drop by for a while to support the players. We have a red hot field of 14 contesting the Mens open on Saturday, with the major absentee being Cam White who as a CFA Firefighter is rostered to work. You will see some great racquetball and have the opportunity to contribute through the canteen or the raffle. Alternately, you might like to contact Ian Chalmers (0418 372 560) who will be happy to sell you raffle tickets. Credit and Debit card facilities will be available. Thank you once again for supporting the event. ESRA Tournament Committee

21.01.2022 Looking for feedback from ESRA members in regards to the best player awards. The criteria used to select the best player currently includes a requirement that a player has played in more than 50% of the available games (accounting for seasons where byes are fixtured); their position (players are judged for the position they played the most games in) and their average points over the season. Aside from a comprehension reading error one season (apologies to Rob Hay), this method seems to work reasonably well and rewards the behavior we want from players - friendly competition measuring how much each player contributes to their teams success. But is there a better way to measure it? How would you like to see it decided? Keen to hear your feedback. Regards, Kristel.

19.01.2022 Thank you to all players who supported the ESRA Tournament this past weekend. We are delighted to announce that we have raised $2,000 through the tournament event and will be directing the money raised to fire-affected communities in East Gippsland. We appreciate everyones efforts in playing, spectating and refereeing over the weekend.

16.01.2022 Congratulations to all teams on the perfect start to the season with all results being submitted on time! It really makes this task significantly easier when everyone sends through their results sheet on time, and I appreciate your efforts. Thank you also to those captains that input their own results. Hopefully it wasnt too scary! =D - Kristel.

13.01.2022 ESRA AUTUMN 2020 COMPETITION LINK | Information can be found at the following link: https://docs.google.com//1WslNutsuIFzQznrefjgn3EfCGM/edit Further updates will be made on Monday 20th January.

12.01.2022 Most of you will be aware that the Victorian State Government has announced that from 22 June 2020 all indoor sport and recreation activities may reopen with up to 20 people per space and up to 10 people per group or activity at any one time. The restrictions proposed to make that feasible mean that it is not yet possible to resume the ESRA pennant competition. It does mean that we will soon able to get back on the court and once again enjoy our chosen sport(s). We will work ...with Squash & Racquetball Victoria and all stakeholders to ensure that we can resume ESRA Pennant competition at the earliest appropriate opportunity. We are mindful that a number of our cohort fall within the vulnerable category, based on age and / or pre-existing health concerns. We will survey all players in coming days to better understand who among us are ready to get back on court immediately and who wish to delay their return until a later date. This information will assist us to form Teams and Grades for the resumption of Pennant. We look forward to the time when we can once again enjoy the full competitive and social aspects of ESRA Racquetball. More information and detail can be found on our website: https://es-ra.com.au//06/04/planning-our-return-to-the-co/

09.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE | The ESRA committee has decided in the best interests of players and their families that we should suspend the ESRA competition (including Autumn pennant and the Doubles) indefinitely. This decision has been made out of an abundance of caution for players. We do not want players to feel they need to play against their better judgement in order to keep the competition running. If any players or teams with to practice of play socially, we suggest no sharing of ...water bottles or towels and that good hand hygiene is maintained at all times. Westerfolds and Mountain District remain open for now; Mulgrave Country Club is closed as of today. We are operating in uncertain times. Please stay safe everyone, and we look forward to resuming competitive events as soon as it is safe to do so.

07.01.2022 Finals Update from Ian Chalmers For this season, finals matches will be played on Thursday nights, commencing at 7.30 pm sharp. Finals teams are reminded to please bring supper for competing teams and referees. Grade 1 Finals commence on Thursday 21 November at Westerfolds Bayswater.... Grades 2-5 Finals commence on Thursday 28 November at Mountain District. Grand Finals will be held on Thursday 5 December at Westerfolds Bayswater. The switch to Thursday evenings was made with good intent to accommodate Grade 1 players competing in Club Circuit. By attempting to solve this problem, another was created as Masters finals are also on Thursday nights. This affects more players. Masters players impacted by this new clash will be permitted to reschedule their Finals match to another mutually acceptable night for teams and referees. Team captains should check the latest ladder and advise Kristel via email [email protected] if they believe they will be impacted. The Finals night will be reviewed for next season. 04.01.2022 VALE BRYAN BIRD | We are sad to advise that Bryan Bird passed away in his sleep this morning. Birdy was an icon of the squash and racquetball community and his tireless contributions to ensuring continuity of competitions within Victoria regardless of the level of play will never be forgotten. Fixturing for every racquetball season always involved a state of the nation chat where Birdy would wax lyrical about squash, racquetball, the health of clubs and life in general. We will miss him dearly.
