23.01.2022 How you brush your teeth matters a great deal. It's one of the key messages we're promoting this #dentalhealthweek so we've created this short informative video to help everyone brush better. #watchyourmouth

23.01.2022 What better way to celebrate the EOFY than to welcome Allisa to our team and to wish Brooke and Matt, parents-to-be, joy and happiness when they welcome their first baby to the family next month.

21.01.2022 Hot off the press....Covid-19 Update....even better than the last one! Melbourne Metro dentists have bypassed Level 2 Restrictions and been advised to implement Level 1 Dental Restrictions effective immediately. Covid-19 screening and enhanced infection control measures are still in place to minimise the risk of Covid-19 transmission, however, the limitations on dental treatment have now been lifted. We understand that the Dental Restrictions have been frustrating and inconve...nient with appointment rescheduling and cancellations. Thank you for your understanding and patience. We are currently working through our 'wait list' whilst allocating time for urgent cases in the process. If you have a dental concern or just want a routine exam please call to see how we can help. Stay safe.

21.01.2022 The Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival has commenced. Why not include a course of tooth whitening to complete your race-day makeover with a brighter smile.

20.01.2022 As we start #dentalhealthweek media outlets report the dangers of online and over-the-counter do-it-yourself tooth whitening products. Are they dangerous? Do they work to whiten your teeth? These are some of the questions that we will be answering in our series of Dental Myths posts over the next few months. Let's get started...... Myth 1: Charcoal toothpaste....a safe and effective way to whiten your teeth! True or False? Answer; a little of both. Activated charcoal is an ab...rasive which may be effective in removing staining on teeth revealing their natural colour. As tooth staining is generally dark, when the stain is removed the teeth appear whiter/lighter. However, the natural base colour is unlikely to be improved. Due to it's abrasiveness, long term use of charcoal as a toothpaste should be avoided to reduce the abrasive removal of tooth structure and subsequent tooth sensitivity. There are other safer, more effective and predictable ways to whiten your teeth......stay tuned for our next Myth on tooth whitening products.

17.01.2022 There is nothing fair about the way private health insurers treat consumers! If you pay the same premium, you should get exactly the same rebate. Talk to your ...patients. 17.01.2022 In memory of all our Defence Force Personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice. Lest We Forget. And to those who continue to serve our nation, we thank you.

16.01.2022 Covid-19 Update; It's a good one!! Good news time: With the reduction of new and active cases in Melbourne, as of 28th September Melbourne dentists will move back to Level 2 Restrictions. Dental practitioners will be allowed to provide routine treatment and care....with the usual Covid-19 precautions. So, if you are due for your regular dental checkup or have a non urgent dental problem, there is no regulatory need to defer. Book in now before your routine care becomes a major problem.

15.01.2022 Covid-19 Update. The Dental Board of Australia has recently applied restrictions to Australian dental practitioners' scope of practice limiting treatment to emergency care. We are unsure when these restrictions will be lifted. Whilst some dental practices have chosen to close temporarily due to these restrictions, we will continue to provide emergency care for our patients. If you are an existing patient with an urgent dental concern please call on 9887 0822 to discuss how we can help. In the meantime we hope you are all coping during this very challenging time. Please remember to wash your hands, avoid touching your face, maintain social distancing and stay at home. If we all do our part, in time, our lives will begin to get back to normal.

15.01.2022 Well it's that time of year when Melbourians flee the cold weather for warmer parts of the globe; whether it's Europe, North America or exotic Asia, be sure to include a pre-departure dental check-up in your plans. After all, munching on a tasty baguette or pizza in an exciting location is more enjoyable without a broken tooth! For those lucky enough to be travelling, call us to arrange a 'peace-of-mind' dental examination. And be sure to pack an emery board as part of your first aid kit; to smooth any sharp edges to reduce tongue and cheek ulceration in the event of a tooth/filling fracture. Safe travels. Is anyone travelling to these attractions?

14.01.2022 COVID-19 and dental treatment; its business as usual......with some additional precautions. Eastern Dental Group follows the Universal Precautions Protocol when treating ALL patients. In short, this means that all the necessary steps are taken to prevent the transmission of diseases from patient-to-staff, staff-to-patient and patient-to-patient. These include the use of Personal Protective Equipment (sinlge-use gloves, face masks and gowns), barrier protection, surface disinf...ecting, steam sterilisation, single-use items and cross infection control. In light if the COVID-19 Pandemic, we have implemented some extra measures, advised by the Australian Government, to reduce the risk of contracting the virus whilst in the health care setting. Our patients (and staff) should therefore feel confident that we are taking every practical measure to provide a safe environment in which to receive their dental care. If you have any specific question /concern please do not hesitate to call on 98870822 or email at [email protected] The Eastern Dental Team

14.01.2022 We all have to play our part..... Covid-19 update. Once again, since we have entered Level 4 Lockdown , dental practices in the Melbourne Metro area have been upgraded to Level 3 Dental Restrictions with our current scope of practice limited to urgent treatment and emergency care. We are hopeful for these restrictions to be relaxed as we exit the Level 4 Lockdown so we can resume routine dental treatment. We will keep you updated........ If you are an existing patient with an urgent dental concern please call on 9887 0822 to discuss how we can help. Stay safe and please follow the lockdown rules.

12.01.2022 With Footy Season (and other contact sports) well under way, parents should ensure their kids wear a custom fitted mouthguard to minimise denato-facial trauma.....don't have one?....then call us today to arrange a time to have some impressions taken for a mouthguard, customised in your favourite team colours. In the unfortunate event of an accident/trauma, the Tooth SOS App from the International Academy of Dental Traumatology, is an invaluable resource for parents and coaches alike.

12.01.2022 To all our valued patients, we would like to express our sincerest appreciation for the trust you have placed in us throughout the year. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas & a safe and wonderful New Year ahead.

12.01.2022 Continuing our Dental Myths series... Myth 2.....Mouthwash is always good. A. False Regular over-the-counter mouthwash has minimal effect on plaque. Brushing and flossing are the most effective ways to clean your teeth...finishing your oral hygiene regime with mouthwash will not make your teeth/mouth cleaner. Also, most mouthwashes contain a lower concentration of fluoride than toothpaste so if you rinse off the toothpaste with the mouthwash, you remove most of the beneficial... fluoride. Mouthwash can be an effective way to freshen your breath between brushing, however regular use of alcohol-based mouthwashes may potentially increase the risk of oral cancer. Finally, chlorhexidine-based mouthwashes are advised in certain situations for short term use....they are an effective anti-bacterial mouthwash but long term use is not advised as they can cause brown staining on the tongue and teeth. 09.01.2022 Welcome to Dental Health Week.....let's get started. You may be surprised at how many 'every day' trolley items contain sugar and some at alarming amounts/percentages. Next time you pick up the cereal box or barbeque sauce check out the percentage of sugar on the nutritional information panel...yikes Stay safe

04.01.2022 It's that time again..... Myth 3. Babies leech calcium from their Mum's teeth. Answer. False... It is a common misconception that during pregnancy a woman loses calcium in her teeth to the developing baby. This is not the case; if a mother's intake of calcium is too low during pregnancy, she will lose calcium from her bones, not her teeth. A mother's teeth however, can be affected by other aspects of pregnancy. Frequent snacking on sugary food/drink and reflux/vomiting can increase the risk of damage to the teeth. Also, hormonal changes during pregnancy can increase the risk of gum disease. To minimise risks to the teeth and gums, it is important to have a healthy diet, a good oral hygiene regime and to maintain your regular dental checkup during pregnancy. Thinking about conceiving? Why not visit us to discuss ways to minimise any dental risks and the risk of a dental emergency during the pregnancy.

04.01.2022 Welcome to #DentalHealthWeek We're talking to people about the importance of brushing and flossing, eating well and, naturally enough, seeing their dentist, a...nd we hope you have a great week connecting with all kinds of people in your community! #watchyourmouth ada.org.au/Dental-Health-Week/Home

04.01.2022 Time for some good news: We are back to Level 2 Restrictions. Dental practitioners are now allowed to provide routine treatment and care....with some extra precautions. So, if you are due for your regular dental checkup or have a non urgent dental problem, there is no regulatory need to defer. Book in now before your routine care becomes a major problem. Stay safe and remember to floss the teeth you want to keep (a little dental humour to exercise those 'smiling' muscles )

03.01.2022 It's a double celebration at Eastern Dental today; Happy Birthday Chloe and well done Melburians.....another '00' day. Doughnuts it is then!! #theoakleighdoughnutco

02.01.2022 To all Our valued patients, thank you for your continued support and trust during 2018. We wish you and your families a safe and Merry Christmas and every success in the New Year.

01.01.2022 A New Year so a new Myth! Myth 4. Rinse your mouth after brushing. Answer.......False. Yes, you read correctly..False... The vast majority of people rinse their mouths after brushing with either water or mouthwashes in the belief that it is beneficial. In fact, rinsing with water or a non-fluoridated mouthwash after brushing, removes all the active ingredients in the fluoride toothpaste that help prevent decay. The longer the fluoride is covering the teeth the better the protection against decay, so the new guidelines recommend spitting out, not rinsing. This leaves a thin layer of the good stuff on your teeth to maximise the protection against decay. This benefit is also increased after the night time brush, as the layer of fluoride covering your teeth will be working for an extended period of time while you are asleep ....so spit, but don't rinse.

01.01.2022 Congratulations Brooke and Matt on the arrival of your baby Hudson. We wish you a lifetime of happiness and wonderful memories.
