09.01.2022 IMPORTANT NEWS The committee of QIOF have made the decision to cancel the 2021 event due to be held at the end of February. It is unfortunate that there is a r...eal chance that social distancing rules will still be in place at that time which would make the running of this event extremely difficult. Of course this is very disappointing but under the present rules very limited people would be able to be within the venue at a time Hopefully there will be more relaxed operating by the time the AOC conference is due later in the year and all our loyal patrons may get their orchid fix. At this stage we plan to be back bigger and better in 2022. See more

08.01.2022 Soft Cane Dendrobium season is approaching :) This is some of our babies starting to throw out their flower buds. Soft Cane growing tips for you to share:... Fertilising should be stopped between June - August on this particular species of Orchid as this is when they start to shoot out their flower buds ~ too much Nitrogen will result in the plant putting out offsets known as 'keikis' instead of their flower buds. Also need to cut down watering during winter, give them good strong filtered sunlight and again 'NO fertiliser' You'll note per the photos some of the canes (known as pseudobulbs) are leafless, this is a natural occurrence throughout the winter period ~ Soft Cane dendrobiums often flower from their previous years cane. Happy Growing!
