20.01.2022 Wildflower Walk, Morangup Nature Reserve, Toodyay

18.01.2022 We would love you to hear about Vanessa’s research.

18.01.2022 At our next meeting on Friday 28th September Alex George will take us through the exploits of some of the early botanists. Since Europeans first came here, Western Australia's astonishing biodiversity has inspired many people to collect and preserve specimens for study. Hear some remarkable stories of discovery , perserverance and preservation which formed the foundation of our botanical knowledge.

16.01.2022 I've never been able to claim a favourite WA wildflower, we have so many beauties. But I absolutely love this Beaufortia squarrosa. I think this is the 'one'. Flowering now

15.01.2022 We're back- our first post lockdown meeting is Friday 24th July 7pm. Octagonal Hall, 52 McGlew Rd Glen Forrest. Eddy Wajon is talking about the wildflowers of Hyden. We're still social distancing, so stay safe and enjoy our winter meeting.

15.01.2022 Eucaluptus calophylla or known as a Marri tree at Herne Hill. Its Greek name means beautiful leaves. See the red glossy juvenile leaves.

14.01.2022 Our next monthly meeting is on August 28th when Yolanda Keeble will take us on a delightful journey through Tarin Rock Reserve. Tarin Rock, a Nature and a Water Reserve in the southern Wheatbelt located between Dumbleyung and Lake Grace, is an oasis of native flora surrounded by farmland. The reserves are very rich in native flora (over 300 species recorded for Tarin Rock Nature Reserve alone) of which many are listed as threatened and priority species for conservation. It will be held at Octagonal Hall, 52 McGlew Rd, Glen Forrest. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

12.01.2022 Lawns can be useful to humans, but they’re not useful to local insects & animals who get forced into ever dwindling reserves of habitat. Why not transform part... of your yard front and back into a wildlife habitat that provides food for you, insects and other animals who just want to scratch a living. Heres a selection of my rewilded (I use the term loosely as many of my natives aren’t endemic) gardens in Perth, WA. See more

11.01.2022 Our Plant Learners' Group which meets at Octagonal Hall in Glen Forrest usually spends a couple of hours gardening in the mornings before we start our ID sessions. While pulling out the weeds this week we came across these beauties.

10.01.2022 Don't forget it's the AGM on Friday 27th November, 7pm. Octagonal Hall, 52 McGlew Rd Glen Forrest. All committee positions available. Come along and socialise ...for the last time in 2020. Bring some supper to share. And don't forget to bring along any seeds from your garden and of course you can purchase seeds ready for next year too. See more

08.01.2022 Are you ready for Friday night? A fun quiz done in groups of four. 7.30pm Friday 28th February. Octagonal Hall 52 McGlew Rd Glen Forrest Talk by Malcolm French follows.

07.01.2022 Native Plants for Sale!!! This year the annual Eastern Hills Wildflower Society Plant Sale had to be cancelled due to Covid 19. However, the plants have been grown and so the growers are eager to sell their plants that they have nurtured over the hot dry summer months. This is your chance to establish or improve your native garden. Most plants are only $3 and they are very healthy specimens. The plants lists and contact details are on the Wildflower Society website. http://www.wildflowersocietywa.org.au///annual-plant-sale/ Please observe social distancing when collecting plants.

03.01.2022 Tomorrow is the start of the Bunaru season, usually the hottest and driest time of the year here in the Southwest. But, there are still lots of Western Australian plants that are flowering. Here are just three from our garden.
