25.01.2022 Over the past few days the Year 10 students in Ms Tunstead and Mrs DeSwardts class were given a mapping challenge to do. They were given a difficult 16 page jigsaw of the world, they had to assemble it and then work through a list of mapping challenges and mark them on their maps. The students worked in small groups and accessed Google Maps etc on their phones to locate specific places and landmarks. The classes worked amazingly together and discovered many awesome things around the world. The teachers were very proud of their dedication to the tasks and how well they worked together.

16.01.2022 The Eastern Hills Senior High School P&C will be holding their AGM on 17th February 2021 at 730 pm. We would love you to join us. As with many volunteer organisations we find it challenging to attract the required number of volunteers. As such the EHSHS P&C typically does not undertake labour intensive fundraising, with funds sourced from the Uniform shop, Voluntary contributions and grants from Local Government and other organisations. We understand that your time is valua...ble. Our meetings are kept as short as possible whilst still conducting the required functions. The P&C have funded and contributed funding to many projects during recent years. Some of these include: - Contribution to Interschool swimming and athletic carnival costs. This lessens the cost to parents. - Contributions to Student scholarships. - Contributions to academic awards. - Contributions towards the school year book. - Contribution towards the recent Yarning Circle project. Attending the P&C meetings is a great way to find out what is happening at the school and what changes are coming up. Typically there are two meeting per term that take approximately one hour or less. Heading into 2021 we are in need of a Vice President, Canteen representative and a Grants officer. If we are unable to fill these positions the P&C will no longer be able to function. The Vice President and Canteen representative roles are imperative. So if you are new to the school or would just like more information in what happens at school we would love to see you at our AGM on 17th February 2021 at 7.30pm in the school staffroom. If you want any more information you can contact us on our email at [email protected]. From all of the EHSHS P&C we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Stay safe and we look forward to seeing you in 2021.

Weve certainly been thrown into a whirlwind of events that will forever be cemented in history as the unprecedented year that was 2020. 15.01.2022 School News On Friday 26th February, the Senior Councillors from Years 12, 11 & 10 had the opportunity to attend the Youth Leadership Conference at the Perth Convention Centre. Our student leaders from EHSHS learnt about the importance of leading and being a good role model, but also how to deal with the difficulties that can arise in leadership. Throughout the program there were many guest speakers, including Wil Massara, the Event Organiser; Jordan Foster, the Founder and... CEO of ySafe, Australia’s leading cyber safety educators, and many other great speakers. During the session with Wil Massara, he taught us his top 7 life-lessons that he learnt on his journey. Two of the seven lessons that struck a chord with us were: *Our differences are our greatest asset & *Sometimes in order to say Yes, we have to say No, very inspiring quotes. While Jordan Foster decided to follow the route of how to present yourself as a leader, her advice on being authentic, think of how you can make an impact, plan on everyone seeing everything and consider context and perception with everything you do and post was a valuable life lesson for all to follow. We, the students who took part, would like to thank the school who allowed us to be a part of this great event, Mrs Hawthorne for accompanying us and the event organisers for pulling together a great line-up of inspiring people It was a day well spent. Student Councillors EHSHS

13.01.2022 School News... This week the Year 12 Children, Family & Community class demonstrated how a student can represent Eastern Hills SHS with respect and enthusiasm. At the beginning of term 2 the year 12 CFC class were due to participate in a Care package task that would have the students engage in getting to know the elderly residents at Yallambee Residential Care facility in Mundaring. On Wednesday after two (2) terms of writing letters back and forth (teacher as the postie) the girls finally had the opportunity to meet in person their Pen Pal. The class demonstrated interest, compassion, enthusiasm and dignity and as their teacher I wanted to let you know how proud I was to see these young ladies enjoy and develop great relationships with their Pen Pals (some of whom are continuing to write. The following students deserve praise and applause for their outstanding caring nature and BIG Hearts: Nadia, Ava, Neave, Lexsie, Maddy, Luca, Bonni, Jordyn, Erin, Ellie, Shana, Sophie, Sarai & Grace. 04.01.2022 School News ... Year 9 Caring for Children excursion. As part of the Caring for Children course the students have been learning about what it means to be an effective babysitter. The students were required to produce an item that could be used when babysitting a young child. ... To make this task more meaningful we have a collaboration with our local primary schools and this term the students were involved in making a soft toy for the Kindy students at Gidgegannup Primary School. The students use a 2D Self-Portrait drawing produced by the young children and turn it into a 3D soft doll. Yesterday the student's enthusiasm in taking and presenting their creations was a delight. Their enjoyment in not only presenting the dolls to the smiling children but their infectious nature in wanting to play was a highlight of the morning. Congratulations to the Year 9 students on an enjoyable morning. Debra Hawthorne Teacher Home Economics Eastern Hills Senior High School
