23.01.2022 Wet weather meant a change in venue from the cattleyards to our bull sale shed for Liam Cardile, LRC Livestock, to do BeefXcel structural assessments of our "Q" bulls & their 1st-calf sisters. All these raw scores; the good, the bad & the ugly (!?!) will now be submitted to Angus TACE. They form part of the data set used to calculate structural EBV's for these animals. 15.01.2022 A long day freeze branding Q bulls. Eliza home for her "mid-Sem break" from uni to be the one with the hook (!!) & also time-keep for the 45secs the brands are held on the hide for. Freeze branding works by destroying the pigment-producing cells in hair follicles, resulting in white hair growth, making the brands highly visible on Angus especially! The brands are kept very cold in a metho & dry ice slurry. Now for the heifers .....
