21.01.2022 Im very keen to secure government support for fire impacted businesses in our community and part of the challenge is measuring the impact. For businesses affec...ted by the fires in East Gippsland, the shire is running a Rapid Impact Survey to assist in getting an understanding of the economic impact across our region. The survey includes information such as business size, industry sector and estimated loss and will help inform the recovery process into the future. If you have a business in East Gippsland which is being impacted by the fire situation, I encourage you to take a moment to complete the survey. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GJQFK3C

11.01.2022 MORE HAY ON ITS WAY These truck loads of fodder are making their way from Yarram to East Gippsland this morning. The McAlpine family of dairy farmers in the W...oodside area organised the convoy. The much-needed fodder will go to farms in Bruthen, Sarsfield, Buchan and Gelantipy. Woodside farmer Darcy McAlpine said the broader Gippsland farming community is desperate to help those further east whove lost stock, machinery and pasture. " We just cant fathom it. When theyre putting down 50 - 60 cattle its just heaertbreaking for all of us," Darcy McAlpine said.

10.01.2022 We never could have dreamt that a random group of blokes (who dont know each other!) have formed a strong circle of support for one another as some of them bat...tle to manage fires and drought. Men are usually uncomfortable talking about how theyre really going ... men are good with the mate stuff, but not always great at asking how ya REALLY going? Things are changing & stigma is being smashed! Dairy farming brothers, Clancy and Darcy McAlpine along with their Dad, Dick from Woodside have initiated and pulled together approx 17 truck loads of hay from their amazing community. This convoy will leave Yarram footy oval around 8am on Thursday. If you are around Yarram tomorrow, feel free to pop into the oval and give these guys a word of encouragement as the load the trucks up. The plan is to head straight into Mosiface and pull up at Craig Calverts front gate for man hugs before dispersing hay to other Wast Gippy farmers. Everyone donating is very adamant that they want to shake the farmers hand when they drop their load. Theres something powerful in this! The beautiful phone calls and texts of support to each other amongst the calendar cohort is just incredible. Men from both the 2019 calendar and this years calendar - spread across the large region of Gippsland are genuinely caring and loving each other. The generosity and kindness of ordinary Australians is unbelievable! The mental ill health and fatigue of people is starting to kick in ... & as a community its the responsibility of all of us to check in over the farm gate - not just now but over the next years to come! The sheer fact that 20 odd men are getting around Craig Calvert and Mark Laity from Bruthen (plus a number of other local east gippsland farmers) by donating and coordinating hay is just kindness on steroids! Farmers and freighters are advised to register loads with Victorian Farmers Federation so they get freight subsidy. Gippsland Lakes Complete Health

06.01.2022 Mayor John White is requesting both the State and Federal governments to prioritise local contractors and businesses as the region starts its recovery from the ...devastating bushfires. As soon as a clean-up program is announced, I urge government to offer our local contractors and businesses the opportunity, in the first instance, to be part of local clean up and associated works. It is incredibly important for morale, families, communities and our economy that local contractors and businesses are a key part of the recovery and reconstruction process. By prioritising local contractors and businesses in recovery works as instigated by government will ensure local employment opportunities. This will send a further strong message of support to bushfire affected communities. Read full media release here: https://bit.ly/308YFfa See more

05.01.2022 These three pictures provide a list of financial supports that may be helpful for those who have been fire impacted and I believe there will be some more announ...cements tomorrow. The one area (gap) where we need attention is to businesses that have not been directly impacted by fire, but have copped the economic hit from the regional evacuation. I am continuing to liaise with the Premiers office on this matter, stressing the importance of a cash injection to those hardest hit to keep them afloat. This list has been compiled my office to provide some assistance, but if there is anything an agency or person thinks should be added, please inbox me, noting this is basically only covering financial supports. 03.01.2022 BUY A METRE OF FENCING FOR A FARMER https://www.gofundme.com/f/buy-a-metre-of-fencing-for-a-far : ... We have been speaking with Elders Bairnsdale & some of the people in the affected areas in regards to the things that the farmers currently need desperately. One of the things that has popped up is that they require fencing materials to lock up their boundaries again as a minimum. After speaking with a team member from Elders Rural Bairnsdale, he has advised that fencing prices are roughly: $ - per metre for materials alone & $ - per metre for materials & labor. Just to put things into perspective, these fires across the whole of East Gippsland has roughly burnt . That is about 495,049 MCG football ovals!!! Please feel free to share this as far as you can to reach the people that are asking what can I do to help. Just click on the link below to help a farmer out! : // We have had an overwhelming response from all of you that have donated and shared our fundraiser having reached nearly 200,000 people on Facebook now. Businesses across Australia are donating their profits for the day, requesting money tins for counters and wanting to do fundraising on our behalf. We have now started to receive media coverage, radio & TV.The response has honestly left us speechless!! Now that we have reached a substantial amount of more than $10,000 we are starting to use this money from the campaign to purchase materials and get them to our farming communities that desperately require them. This does not mean that our fundraising efforts are finished. We are still very much raising funds and will continue to do so as long as our community requires it.

01.01.2022 For anybody needing accommodation for there horses throughout the fires.
