25.01.2022 Lidia Thorpe will be officially sworn into the Federal Parliament on Tuesday! Make sure you’re following her accounts so you can share the journey. Can’t wait to see Lidia shake things up in there! Credit: ABC 730 1 October 2020

25.01.2022 FYI - another application for an exploration licence adjoining the Fingerboards Project - including TabberaberaThis time from a company named Syndicate Resour...ces Pty Ltd (registered 29/8/19) which has one director and 100 $1.00 shares all held by another company named Eagle Eye Resources Pty Ltd (registered 14/6/18) which one $1.00 share and the same director. Neither company appears to have any assets. How is that allowed? Whose lives are going to be made miserable now? Anyone can object to the granting of an exploration licence within 21 days of the application (in this case by 10th December). The online objection form is here https://rram.force.com/ObjectionSubmission https://www.syndicateminerals.com.au/castleburn-el007450

24.01.2022 In the past few months, I have been able to do that. My diet has improved, along with my mental health and overall quality of life. I haven’t been anxious about choosing between rent and food. That does wonders for your peace of mind.

24.01.2022 BREAKING: Parliament just voted YES to our motion for a #GreenNewDeal for Victoria. This is the first time a Green New Deal has been formally endorsed in Austra...lia. The Victorian Greens motion called on the government to use the upcoming state budget as a once-in-a-generation opportunity to implement a Green New Deal by investing in: A big build of publicly-owned renewable energy and storage projects, with a transition plan for coal workers A big build of public housing Employing more educators, healthcare workers and social support workers Large-scale projects to regenerate bushfire-affected areas and protect threatened species Bike lanes and other active transport projects Projects to revive our main shopping strips Building recycling plants Now that the Parliament has backed our plan for a Green New Deal, the next step is to make sure the government follows through in the upcoming state budget in two weeks' time. So watch this space! We'll keep you updated with how that goes. Today we took a big step forward, towards a better future for all Victorians, and a cleaner and safer environment and climate. I can't wait to share the next steps with you over the coming weeks.

24.01.2022 Collapse is just a series of ordinary days in between extraordinary bullshit, most of it happening to someone else. That’s all it is.

23.01.2022 We in East Gippsland are in a kind of time warp as Liberal party seats fell throughout the state but our voters stayed stolidly loyal to their National Party mate, who they went to school with, played footie with and who could call most of them by name as they headed over for his how-to-vote card which put the Greens last. The ALP candidate was well-known since he has been on the Shire Council for 3 or more terms. It was the first local ALP standing for a while but didn’t at...Continue reading

23.01.2022 Meet Martha. She's 61 and was made redundant from her receptionist job a year ago, she's been looking for work for 12 months now. With the Government's cuts to ...JobSeeker coming into effect today, Martha will be struggling to keep a roof over her head. Older women are the fastest growing cohort of homeless people in Australia, with 34% of women aged over 60 living in poverty and over 30% of the newly unemployed or underemployed are aged between 51 and 65. It's not right and one person can stop it. The Treasurer. Can you join the thousands of people who've sent a quick email to the Treasurer, telling him not to drop JobSeeker below the poverty line? https://thegreens.good.do/raisetherate/email-treasurer/

23.01.2022 The future is Green (if you vote for them) "With the election of Joe Biden comes a raft of dramatic shifts in world affairs perhaps none more pressing than ...the incoming administration’s about-face on climate change. After four years cosying up to Trump’s denialism, Australia now finds itself out in the cold an increasingly lonely country without an emissions target for 2050. You might expect Labor to pounce. But, as Karen Middleton writes this week, the Opposition faces its own climate stalemate with fear growing that pro-mining backbencher Joel Fitzgibbon won't stop until the party backs coal or gets a new leader. The climate wars, once again, are upon us. Maddison Connaughton, editor The Saturday Paper NOVEMBER 28 DECEMBER 4, 2020 | No. 329 Cartoon By Jon Kudelka

22.01.2022 Well done to East Gippsland Shire Council for voting unanimously to oppose the Fingerboards Mineral Sands project. There were some excellent presentations and a... commitment to expand on the Independent Review to include areas that were not covered by SLR. You can watch the meeting here. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qKZgTJCh_Y) The Fingerboards item starts about 18 minutes in. It is well worth listening to those who spoke to the motion to get some understanding of community concerns. See more

21.01.2022 The votes are in, and I'm thrilled to announce that we’ve elected 36 local Greens councillors across Victoria! That's 36 passionate people who will work h...ard for their local communities, always put people ahead of profits, and take real action on climate change. You have voted in record numbers for this diverse, young and passionate bunch of leaders, with 9 Greens Councillors under 35, 10 Councillors identifying as LGBTIQ+, and the first Sub-Saharan African to ever be elected in Victorian local government history. I'm so happy to share this wonderful news with you.

18.01.2022 We have to stop letting the major political parties take Gippsland East for granted. The only way for this region to get the time, attention and funding it nee...ds to move forward is for it to become a marginal seat. Let's hope the constituents start considering that their historical standpoints have only benefited a select few and that the only way forward is to make the majors fight for our respect and our votes. We, and our children, deserve so much more than we are currently being served. Let's get marginal! See more

15.01.2022 Just leaving this here.

14.01.2022 Small areas of unburnt old growth forests in East Gippsland are being scheduled for clearfelling by Dan Andrews and his hooligan band of VicForesters. These are absolutely, unquestionably critical refuges for the surviving wildlife, and endangered species. Please tell the Ministers - NO. See below.

14.01.2022 We do NOT have an endorsed candidate this local election but we are seeing some very progressive candidates in East Gippsland.

13.01.2022 Our Government will declare a climate emergency next week. This will be a clear statement of our intent to address the climate crisis - and shows what it means ...to have a strong Green Party voice in Government However, we know that the only way to avoid the worst impacts of the climate crisis and build a zero carbon New Zealand that meets the needs of everyone, is to back our words with action. Over the next three years, as Minister of Climate Change, I will be working across Government to make sure this important declaration is backed with policy to bring emissions down.

12.01.2022 Last night the Victorian Parliament was asked to vote on whether many new areas of Victorian rivers should be opened up to camping. While the Victorian Greens s...upport people having the opportunity to connect with nature, we’ve had our concerns about these proposed changes and the way the Andrews Labor Government is pushing them through the Parliament. Over the past weeks, our offices have been inundated with calls and emails from locals who have raised concerns about the potential impacts of widespread new camping. People have identified many valid issues, including uncertainty about where camping will occur, who will manage it, and how important issues like fire, rubbish, lack of toilets, biosecurity and impacts on the bush, rivers and wildlife will be managed. Yesterday, I spoke to represent the views of the many Victorians who have been in touch with us, and to put your views on the record. In recognition of people’s concerns, we asked that the bill be delayed until the Government has properly consulted with all those impacted, and has clear plans to manage the many issues that have been identified. Unfortunately, our amendment was voted down. But there is some good news. In response to pressure from all of you, the Greens, and others in Parliament, the Government has delayed the commencement of these new changes until September next year. This gives all of us some time to advocate for camping to occur in locations that are appropriate, and with proper regulation. The Victorian Greens will continue to advocate on your behalf on this issue. While we want Victorians to be able to get out and enjoy nature, we also want to ensure that activities like camping happen in a way that looks after our special places and wildlife for the future.

11.01.2022 29 years is too long to wait for pay equality. Latest data from the Workplace Gender Equality Agency shows the gender pay gap has dropped a miniscule 0.7% to 20....1%! Not only that, but around half of the employers who are WELL AWARE they have a gender pay gap in the workplace are choosing to ignore the problem. Women have run out of patience. If we don’t take action now, we risk decades of progress hard fought for, but easily lost.

10.01.2022 The Morrison government has said it refused to sign a global pledge endorsed by 64 countries committing them to reverse biodiversity loss because it was inconsistent with Australia’s policies.

10.01.2022 It's official the green wave has continued south from Queensland and the ACT, and swept across Victoria. From Darebin to Dandenong, Stonnington to Shepparto...n, people have elected Greens local councillors to represent them for the next four years. In Yarra, which overlaps my electorate of Melbourne, you've even elected the country's first Greens-majority council. With a growing movement of Greens across the country, we've got the team to make it happen.

10.01.2022 Seems Mr Chester is okay with pointing the finger to creat some divisive banter and a lovely platform for some Greenie bashing. Also falsely accusing us of the actual defacing. He just noticed after all these months? Check the comments on this post for some idea of the vitriol directed this way in your electorate Darren. You were eerily quiet after the fires along with Tim Bull when some of us were afraid to go out you did not dispel the myth that The Greens were responsible for the catastrophic fires. Thanks for the publicity our page has taken off so many likes and shares of this photo it’s amazing.

06.01.2022 We must make sure we continue Deb Foskey’s work

06.01.2022 Greens local government candidates proudly joined 630+ communities across Australia to speak out against Morrison’s dangerous gas plans. Gas is as dirty as coal. We need a renewables revolution! Powerful work from School Strike 4 Climate today demanding Morrison #FundOurFutureNotGas

05.01.2022 14 days of double doughnuts. Go you good thing Victoria! I know it’s been rough for so many of us in so many ways but other global cities are looking at Vi...ctoria and Melbourne as an example of how to control this pandemic. We listened to the science and took a health-led response to the crisis. It’s taken each and every one of us and we can all be very proud of this achievement. Looking forward to more doughnut days and some doughnut economics to go with it. Shout-out to local artist Sarah the Firth for this great piece (shared with permission). See more

05.01.2022 28 days, 0 cases. We did this together.

04.01.2022 We have already seen extreme bushfire risk declared for the Adelaide Hills. On Friday, a grassfire north of Adelaide burnt through 650 hectares. 03.01.2022 The NFF’s chief executive, Tony Mahar, told Guardian Australia farmers should have choice in determining his or her own priority with how private land is used through a respectful and transparent process. Farmers have and will continue to advocate that any extractive development must not impede on quality of agricultural resource, whether land or water, Mahar said. Any development must recognise the importance of local community buy-in, noting their deep knowledge of issues, challenges and opportunities for prospective projects.

03.01.2022 Take a good look at what independent consultants think of the Fingerboards Mineral Sands Project. The independent report was commissioned by the East Gippsland Shire Council and is quite critical of the myriad of gaps in the Kalbar EES and where it falls short in so many other areas. This mine is a bad idea. Agriculture over mining, every vote, every time - Greens Support Farmers and rural communities. https://www.eastgippsland.vic.gov.au//5211_ees_fingerboard

01.01.2022 We try and photograph all the old trees. Some days you don’t get there quick enough. This was Colquhuon forest that didn't burn last summer. This is Mississipi ...Creek catchment that becomes the North Arm at Lakes Entrance. The trees are gone and the springs are ruined. Forest surveys recorded one Greater Glider, Lace monitor, Southern Boobook, rare Blue-crowned Stringybark and other wondrous things. The echidna didn't make it. The Colquhuon forest is a patchwork of logging coupes. Past present future. #Vicforest. Your taxes
