15.01.2022 COMMUNITY NEWS | It is hard to believe it is nearly Christmas and after the year we have all experienced, we all deserve to celebrate a little with family and friends. COVID-19 certainly changed everything for everyone this year our worlds as we knew them altered completely. Many of us have not been able to see family and friends for months, but hopefully Christmas is a time when we can finally catch up.... Please remember to be careful though, and keep following the social distancing rules, wear your masks when you can’t socially distance and keep up the hand hygiene - wash your hands regularly and use hand sanitiser when you can’t all of these things will help to keep us all safe and keep Victoria open. For our staff in particular, it has been a very challenging year, a year that none of them have experienced in their working lives. I would like to pay tribute to our 522 staff members for their dedication to the care of our patients, residents and consumers throughout the pandemic. This pandemic was new to us all and the goal posts shifted daily, meaning our staff had be adaptable. They have come together to solve problems, often ‘thinking outside the square’ when they needed to, and have gone about their work with good humour and great camaraderie throughout it all. Whether clinical or non-clinical, they have all stepped up to the plate and I am proud of each and every one of them. Our staff were also often in the thoughts of you, our community. Throughout the year businesses and individuals provided wonderful messages of support, generous gifts to our hardworking staff and positive feedback. This didn’t go unnoticed and we are very grateful that we live in a community that demonstrates kindness and support. Country people are known for their resilience and community spirit and you have demonstrated this in many ways throughout the year. 2021 will be a new year, and we hope a much better one for us all. In the meantime, on behalf of the EGHS Board and all our staff, I wish you all a merry Christmas and a safe and happy new year.

06.01.2022 CHRISTMAS OPENING HOURS | See below for East Grampians Health Service public holiday services:

04.01.2022 Warnings have been issued for Lake Bolac after high levels of blue green algae were detected in the lake. The algal bloom is expected to remain until there is ...significant rainfall to flush the lake or cooler conditions slow the algae. Regular testing is being conducted to identify new outbreaks or changes that might indicate improved water quality. People are advised to avoid direct contact with affected water in Lake Bolac. Do not swim in affected areas or use water for cooking, drinking, washing or showering. Boiling the water will not make it safe. Direct contact with water affected by blue green algae can cause skin irritation, sore eyes, ears and nose. If swallowed it can cause cramps, nausea and vomiting. If you do come into contact with affected water, wash your skin immediately in clean cool water. Boiling affected water does not make it safe to drink. Boiling water bursts the blue green algae cells and releases toxins into the water making it more likely that you will experience symptoms. If you are experiencing any health issues after contact with affected water seek medical advice from your local doctor or Nurse-On-Call on 1300 60 60 24. See more
