25.01.2022 Our ATAR students have had a boost this week with many of our partners in Senior Education visiting Kununurra to support student progress. Our SIDE Chemistry and Geography teachers have worked with students before handing them over to our expert Regional Learning Specialist team who have provided extra preparation for Chemistry, Geography, History, Physics and Maths exams. Our ATAR PE students put their theory into practice by completing a highly engaging Level 1 Coaching course with Football West. They have also worked closely with ATAR Soccer student, Cameron Portas in preparation for his ATAR exam being held in Perth during the school holidays! Its been a busy week of productivity and learning in the Senior School space.

03.01.2022 KALS ON COUNTRY - Mirima National Park This week, we explored Mirima National Park with our Miriwoong teachers Jimmy, Glenys and George. With everything that we had learnt last week, we went looking for the 'Woolewoorrng' tree (Woollybutt), as we knew that these were the perfect tree to make 'Gooloomboong' (Didgeridoo). Distinguishable by their flaky brown base and smooth white tops, we knocked on their trunks to find one that was hollow. We also learnt how to identify the ...medicinal 'Gooroongeng' bush, useful for unblocking sinuses and helping with a blocked nose - it smelt just like Vicks VapoRub. Jimmy shared with us the Dreaming story of the 'gerany' (rock) atop the lookout - the story goes that a man went looking in Mirima to hunt kangaroo, but when he never found any, he turned to stone. You can still see the figure of the man, looking out across Hidden Valley. George also taught us the old story to not touch or climb on the high rocks in Mirima, for fear of louse - and Glenys predicted that the KALS boys will bring on a big rain, as a result of throwing rocks into the waterfall at the end of the trail. Next week we will go back to Mirima and learn another Dreaming about 'Jigeng' (bird).
