25.01.2022 The course is ready for 1st round of championships tomorrow. the weather holds off as the guys have really put in and presented the course on a new level .
25.01.2022 Now Club Championships are over the next 2 or 3 weeks will be spent teaching all staff to complete all jobs on the course to help with variety in the job . You may see some blue and yellow directional marks on fairways to show our cut direction .
25.01.2022 5 days post greens renovations and recovery is good , the young fella jump testing the greens with a solid 4-5mm bump at at 10 degree angle and running at a fair 6.5 foot, should bring the cored green specialist like Nathan Smith into the mix for today’s competition. Obviously someone wasn’t happy with the greens on the 14th, large divot taken
24.01.2022 Just a reminder , the greens are soft due to coring and over 350mm of rain , we are trying our best to get them through renovations in the best possible condition. The spare par 3 greens need to be treated the same as the course greens and pitch marks repaired . This is very frustrating as a greenkeeper but more frustrating if someone has to putt over them .
23.01.2022 Carts are on , our aeration program has worked well , no puddles on 3 , 4 or 6 fairways at all , few isolated ones on 12 , thats after 137mm . Greens being cut with walk behinds , fairway debris being blown off, bunkers being cleaned and raked ,course being set up , enjoy
23.01.2022 Warm Monday forecast for the course , greens being cut , course being set up for Comp, rough being cut ,tee furniture being snipped and 2 guys moisture testing and Handwatering collars and greens
23.01.2022 Course being set up this morning for Tiger tee , greens being cut and rolled , soil application being applied after yesterdays aeration . Another 4mm of rain over night and currently raining which is assisting moving the spray application into the soil profile. 152.5mm of rain in past 18 days
23.01.2022 A lot of Environmentally Sensitive areas being extended and native plants added , Bank stabilisation on hole 13 also complete .
23.01.2022 With the weather predicted next 7 days it’s a great opportunity to get a wetting agent, insecticide and pre emergent herbicide application to fairways, greens surrounds and greens approaches . The early morning start to stay ahead of golf was void after a tyre blowout on the 5th !
23.01.2022 Two spots at 11am or 12 pm for our fitting day tomorrow at the 10th hole. Book in now and don’t miss out.
22.01.2022 Spraying a pre-emergent herbicide to greens approaches , surrounds and fairways this morning, the product needs a light irrigation to get the correct placement to be effective so don’t stress if you see Sprinklers running
22.01.2022 With all the rain and humidity at the moment it’s perfect time to thin the Poa greens out and get a dusting of sand into them , hopefully will help firm the surface for pennants this weekend also
22.01.2022 Full rough area herbicide application beginning this morning , with large rain fall amounts for the last 5 months and a mild start to winter we have had good weed germination occur , especially in areas that don’t receive a lot of traffic
22.01.2022 The fescue seed around the new tees has started to germinate . The 1st tees constructed are now down to 12mm height of cut . Fair bit of rain coming over next few days. Hopefully not to much damage
20.01.2022 If you care about the game of golf, you need to watch this video. Go Behind The Greens with the grounds crew at Winged Foot
20.01.2022 Pretty brisk out on course this morning. Course being set up for comp . Greens being cut and rolled , greens received a 9mm solid tine to 150mm deep on Monday just in time for the 100+mm of rain predicted over Friday Saturday and Sunday.
20.01.2022 Another 45mm of rain in past 36 hours , early start aerating greens with 9mm solid tines today to help move the water through , few wet areas developing in the rough on holes 6,12 and 15 , hopefully no more rain this week . The empty lake is a distant memory!
17.01.2022 The new watercourse on the 9th hole is doing a great job removing water off the course and into the wetland system .
17.01.2022 Out setting the greens and collars up for a 4 day warm period . Fertiliser Programs in place have really made a big difference with great root growth for this time of year .
17.01.2022 Big day by the guys . All greens cored/cleaned and topdressed , all have received first broom in and 3/4 received the final broom , 4 tees also cored. Another big day tomorrow will greens and tees finished . Thanks to all my staff as they smashed it out of the park today
16.01.2022 Current conditions . More rain then we want and need , currently sitting at 971.5mm for 2020 compared to 1003mm for entire 2019 . Machines are being pressure washed , all drainage pits around compound being cleaned of debris. New synthetic mats and practice hitting nets being installed .
16.01.2022 Finishing up tee aeration with a granular fertilise. Tees were cored and rubbed in/top dressed , 1 Ton of dynamic lifter applied and now a granular fertiliser . They are the only part of the course that struggled with large player numbers through winter . Time to kick them in
16.01.2022 70mm of rain over the last 36 hours and currently raining , guys are out cleaning debris off greens , edging bunkers , Spreading mulch and cleaning up the ball washers ready to be placed back on course .
16.01.2022 If anyone saw or heard a chainsaw around the spare hole on the Southside of the course yesterday (possibly between 5pm-6pm) can you let the club know It’s a 10/10 text book cut to *Correction it was done at 2am this morning .
15.01.2022 Finally some form of normality to the course , new cups the right way up , new flag poles, bunkers rakes back in . Onwards and upwards from here .
15.01.2022 The RHS of the 4th fairway is near completion with the sensitive area border being enlarged and reshaped . 5000 native plants planted yesterday and today . The path has been compacted , the safety fenced will be removed today and a smaller protective fence put up . The mounds to left of the path will be turfed next week hopefully.
15.01.2022 Slowly but surely getting the creek bank turfed . Should be all finished tomorrow and pinned down , will be roped off for a while and we ask members and guests not to walk up the freshly laid turf .
14.01.2022 Just a reminder we are very lucky to have 21 holes at EGC and the spare holes make good practice facilities. However pitch marks need to be repaired on the greens also .
14.01.2022 There is no more GUR on 9th , ropes removed , hazard marked and in play .
14.01.2022 Work has continued on draining the areas around the 6th fairway. Today the pipe exits were cleaned and all pond banks reshaped and tidied up around the 7th tee , 7th fairway is now visible from the tee, it’s amazing the amount of water flowing through the system now
13.01.2022 We found an old terracotta drainage system on RHS 6th fairway today that was blocked . New drainage will be installed over the next week . Hopefully this will assist in making the course playable all weather all year round .
12.01.2022 Currently sitting 397mm over last year’s January1st - May 31st figures , had 45 rain days last year compared to 50 this year in that period , only used the irrigation system twice for the month of May for nightly irrigation. That’s 1400mm from June 1st 2019 to June 1st 2020 (December 2019 the driest with 2.5mm)
12.01.2022 Just a reminder we have just finished 2 busy weeks on course aerating, fertilising and topdressing. If people can fill divots it will go a long way to help keep the course on reasonable condition. This was after Wednesday’s comp .
12.01.2022 Fairways are being cut down at 8mm after the scarify this week, all fairways will be blown off and cleaned for the weekend, fairway coring will be completed next week followed by an insecticide/wetting agent application and granular fertilise .
12.01.2022 Starting some drainage trial work on LHS of the 12th today . Will be a challenge with such a high water table but we will work on it .
11.01.2022 Dedicated , 12mm early this morning and currently hosing down . Greens under water at present .
11.01.2022 Winners are grinners congratulations A-res Champion Paddy & B-Grade Champion Barry - let the celebration begin
11.01.2022 Drainage works today
10.01.2022 Pretty disheartening after the winter traffic we have experienced and the work that has gone into trying to get the tees back for club championships that someone feels it’s ok to a) hit from the plates in practice b) take 2 fat ordinary divots c) leave them unfilled *17th tee Wednesday afternoon
10.01.2022 217mm in the last 3 days , takes it to 295mm in the last 10 days , we are moving forward with greens renovations with coring and cleaning greens , will not be topdressing till at least Wednesday possibly Thursday . Using the tractor instead to deep tine fairways to assist moving water through the profile so the course is ready when we re open after aeration.
10.01.2022 After 9mm over the weekend and the predictions changed somewhat with the amount of rain predicted decreased , we are 19mm solid tining areas on fairways prone to pooling with water, also landing areas on fairways that are receiving a lot of traffic through this busy period .
10.01.2022 A Pre and Post emergent herbicide being applied to tee tops and tee surrounds on a fresh Sydney morning .
10.01.2022 Yep that sums it up , another 46.5mm in last 24hrs and still raining
10.01.2022 Final piece of the fairway aeration , after wetting agent/insecticide app yesterday we are putting out a granular fertiliser this morning and time to start getting them back to a good surface .
08.01.2022 Easter long weekend course set up complete . Greens 2 weeks post coring and fertiliser has kicked in . Time to start working them back to a decent surface . Back to back short weeks is brutal for us as we loose 153 labour hours on the course with public holidays . That’s a lot of work needing catch up .
08.01.2022 Just a reminder that the people playing in the group behind you deserve to enjoy their round also . We rake bunkers every morning before the first group starts
08.01.2022 Ropes have been taken down on LHS of 12th hole in the rough , no water laying around . Ground is playable .
08.01.2022 Sad day for Eastlake Golf Club , Kieran Writer is finishing up today after 13 solid years at the club . Kieran has been a massive asset to EGC and his contributions to the course will be sorely missed . As a manager i will miss Kieran’s dedication and work ethic , on behalf of the club i want to wish him and his family all the best on their move to Wagga Wagga (so good they named the place twice) keep the beer cold big dog .
08.01.2022 The quest to keep the course as playable as possible for 2nd round club championships is underway . Deep tining fairways 6 and 12 to help move excessive water through the profile
08.01.2022 Cart shed extension begun today. Progress has been good . Should be all completed by lunch tomorrow with only the entrance door to be installed and original door and front wall to be removed
07.01.2022 17 days post green aeration we are sitting in a good position . The preventative insecticide and fungicide program has kicked off this week with a warm weekend predicted. Club Championship preparation has begun this week .
07.01.2022 Another 52mm in past 24 hours takes us to 122mm since Sunday morning, carts are currently not allowed due to water running across holes 2 and 3. The guys are pressure washing the sand stone around the 1st tee and practice area, mulching gardens and trimming lake edges .
07.01.2022 This last of our invasive aeration program begins today with the fairways being cored , the north paddock will be completed today with cores being broken up with a metal drag mat and then fairways will have debris blown off . Thank you for your patience and understanding
07.01.2022 Few people have asked about the course being wet or over watered , last night we passed 1000mm for 2020 . The photos show from 1st May 2019 to 17th July 2019 (77 days) we used 15,583,893L of water , Then same 77 day period in 2020 we used 4,838,698L . We have watered the course 4 times in the past 77 days. That’s unheard of on a sand based course susceptible to high winds .
07.01.2022 A lot of work being done on the creek system around the 9th green this week , creek banks planned to be turfed on Monday with the final clean of the creek base to increase water flow and drainage off the course also. The back right surrounds of the green has also been extended by 2m giving a good runoff into the hazard
07.01.2022 The greens have recovered rather fast after the core 9 days ago , today we are grooming the surface to remove the excess grass followed by an application of dusting sand to top up the core holes and start to work on increasing green speed and firmness
07.01.2022 12 days out from 1st round of club championships we are grooming greens followed by a dusting of sand . This is then followed up by our soil application spray with a wetting agent added to help the sand bed into the grooming
06.01.2022 Tough morning to be on the course , it doesn’t get much better then this . Course being set up for Tiger tee day , greens being cut with walk behind mowers and rolled . Collars being hand watered , bunkers being broomed and raked . The old boy close to retirement but loves the Handwater shift still. Enjoy
06.01.2022 All bunkers raked this morning before play and , 3 groups later ! Just a reminder that rakes are back in and there are golfers behind that deserve good conditions also .
06.01.2022 The Greens are receiving some treatment from an Air2G2 machine today , the machine is punching air 300mm deep into the profile to assist with drainage and compaction from the excessive traffic and precipitation.
06.01.2022 A team is looking for u
06.01.2022 The waterway at the 9th has handled the deluge at the start of the week really well , the new turf has taken root , it is still marked GUR with 2 drops zone depending on what side of the creek you land . The water course is marked Red Hazard and play as normal hazard rule
05.01.2022 Very grateful we can treat our fairways and green surrounds for insects , untreated areas in the rough starting to show signs of billbug damage.
05.01.2022 The 6th hole will play a very short par 4 today. The markers are near fairway bunker on LHS . This is so we can safely begin drainage works near the cross creek and pond .
05.01.2022 Another 40mm of rain overnight . Course is wet and soft however the aeration on the greens at the start of the week had meant no water sitting on greens . We couldn’t roll greens but were able to cut them and they should play ok for the 1st round Foursome Championships
05.01.2022 No rain finally , 300mm over last 7 days , 367.5mm for the last 12 in total , our aeration has worked and we are out cutting all turf surfaces this morning , tees not being reconstructed are being cored also. Our greens topdressing has been rescheduled due to the greens being soft and the sand being to wet
05.01.2022 With the excessive amount of rain over the past 2 days we have swapped our planned needle tine aeration to greens from next Monday to today , we will be verti-cutting and sand dusting the greens next Monday now .
04.01.2022 Well said Alexander Sutherland Jnr III it doesn't get much better than this!
04.01.2022 Work is continuing between 3rd green and 16th tee to remove non native species and also thinning of the tea tree to allow sunlight in for new native plantings to establish
04.01.2022 Levelling a few irrigation heads with my old mate . Great winters morning on the course. Kikuyu is still holding in .
03.01.2022 Who hasn’t thought of doing this after a terrible round of golf? Come and see your friendly PGA pros and we will help you suck less at golf.
03.01.2022 Tomorrow’s draw
03.01.2022 After fairway coring and scarifying 3.5 weeks ago our fairways are back to 10mm in height for spring and summer and they have received 1 growth regulator application, preferred lies will be removed tomorrow.
03.01.2022 With all the extra traffic and rain we decided to change our monthly solid tine to a hollow tine this morning , pulling 9mm cores out at a depth of 30mm , strange to still be around the 6 degree mark temperature wise in July but will take it . With the early start we were able to complete 16 of the 23 greens ahead of the golfers. We do try to be as least disruptive as possible
02.01.2022 Fairway renovations have started today with the plan to scarify holes 1-4 & 14-18. The southern paddock will be completed on Thursday if weather permits .
02.01.2022 It’s not always roses on the course , the variable speed drive that controls the northern pump decided time was up on Monday right in the middle of course renovations . The past 48 hours were a tad stressful but with awesome service from Kenrahn Controllers we are now back up to 100% irrigation capacity
02.01.2022 We couldn't have said it better ourselves.. With a new tee improvement plan underway, it can only get better! Thankyou @golfaustraliamagazine for the write up, we are all very proud of our course & our staff @eastlakegcsuperintendent
01.01.2022 The guys getting set up for Wednesday Comp , greens being cut with walkbehinds, greens receiving a foliar fertiliser, growth regulator and preventative fungicide application before the rain predicted . Course is sitting good for club championships this Saturday just hope for not to much rain .
01.01.2022 77mm fallen since Friday night. Takes us to 1205.5mm YTD (1003mm for 2019 entire), photo shows irrigation output from 1st May 2019 to 11th August 2019 compared to same period this year . Difference of 16,746,385L . Thankful for a sand profile across the golf course .
01.01.2022 After a crazy 7 day period the greens are now topdressed and fertilised , they will receive another light rub in on Thursday . One of the tougher greens aeration we have completed .
01.01.2022 A few before and after shots of the 14th hole with the 15 pine trees removed from the border of the Sensitive native area
