18.01.2022 SPECIALIST COACH - 2020 Easts would like to welcome back one of our old boys back to the club MATT GITEAU!! ... Matt has had a very long and successful rugby career. As one of a few centurions for the Wallabies, Matt also played Super Rugby for the Brumbies and Western Force before heading to the Cote D’Azur, France where he won 3 Heineken Cup titles and a Top 14 Championship title with Toulon. Matt decided to continue his career with yet another premiership winning team, Suntory Sungoliath in the Japanese Top League, where he still currently plays. We are beyond excited to have his expertise, wisdom and presence at Easts Canberra, during Matt’s off season, helping our junior and senior players be the best they can be. 17.01.2022 Along with majority of Rugby Clubs in ACT/NSW, we have agreed to commence training from the 1st of June IF we continue to experience the good results we have been having in the ACT. So please continue training hard by yourself and in small groups but PLEASE adhere to all ACT rules including no sharing of equipment, training in small groups outside and social distancing! We are all so excited to get back to rugby but let’s not ruin the hard work of our community!... Thank you

17.01.2022 It is with extreme sadness we let our Easts family know that Spider McInnes succumbed to kidney failure today. Below is a quick bio for Spider though you’ll agree that there aren’t enough words to describe what a giant he actually was for the game and our club Easts. He will be missed dreadfully. He is survived by his wife Tran and son Tin, ex-wife Kelly and their two sons, Will and Tom. Mark (Spider) (Scotty) McInnes was a product of St Edmunds College. Spider played scho...olboy rugby from 1971 to 1981 and in his last year at college played for the ACT Schoolboys. From 1982 to 1985 he played for the Vikings club in Wollongong and then the Port Hacking club in the Sydney grade competition while he completed his apprenticeship as a fitter and turner. Mark returned to Canberra in 1986 to play for Easts because it was his home club. He had a dominant initial year and was rewarded with selection in the ACT senior representative XV (the Griffins) the same year. Representation continued at the local level through to 1991 when he was also selected to play for the Kookaburras (the forerunners to the Brumbies). He won the Tommy Byrne Memorial Trophy as the best and fairest first grade player in the ACT competition in 1987 and was appointed captain of Easts1st Grade in 1989, the year he also won the prestigious MacDougall Medal. Mark was selected in the 1989 Wallaby squad that toured France and Canada and was also invited to play with the Australian Barbarians in 1990. In 1990 Mark suffered a devastating knee injury playing for the ACT against New South Wales. Had it not been for this injury he would have certainly been selected as the number 8 against France, the United States and the All Blacks. Mark McInnes, a flanker, was unlucky not to have played a Test for Australia through injury, but would play in four non-Test matches on the Wallaby tour of 1989. Those non-Test games were North American Wolverines (24-6), Languedoc Regional Selection (10-19), Auvergne Selection (10-19) and Ile de France (19-21). He would also play for Wasps (England) and Peebles in (Scotland). In later years, Mark was able to suit up for the Classic Wallabies, whose gentler pace allowed him to continue enjoy the game he loved. He was also a regular supporter of the club that he held dearest, Easts and he could always be found on the western sideline entertaining his mates or back at the club providing advice to the players. He will be sadly missed by us all at Easts and in the wider rugby community. Red, White, and Blue
