23.01.2022 The East Timor Eye Program would like to thank its volunteers and supporters for their contribution to various program activities this year! Without your support, dedication and enthusiasm we could not have achieved all we did. A snapshot of activities is showcased in the pictures in this post. ETEP looks forward to another prosperous year in 2016; stay tuned for future updates. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy 2016!

22.01.2022 The ETEP has had a busy start to 2016! Many teaching specialists have shared their knowledge and wisdom to the PGDO trainees on a variety of eye health topics, and an outreach visit to the far reaches of Los Palos was delivered in February servicing the rural population of Timor-Leste. The below photo is of Dr Sam Cady transferring his surgical skills and knowledge to Dr Bernadete Pereira at the National Eye Centre, now known as the Department of Ophthalmology, in Dili.

20.01.2022 Sincere thanks to Jose Ramos-Horta for those kind words of support

01.01.2022 Outreach Activity Update An ophthalmology outreach visit was delivered in Suai, Timor-Leste, from 9-13 May 2016, with generous funding support from the Lions Club International Foundation and ProVision/Optometry Giving Sight. Suai is a city situated on the south coast of Timor-Leste and has a population of approximately 20,000 people. The eye health outreach team, made up of Timorese and international eye health personnel, has been supported by RACS Global Health to deliver e...ssential ophthalmic services in Suai on an annual basis for many years. Teaching and up-skilling national counterparts is a key emphasis of outreach visits, and a vital way for regional eye health personnel to develop their skills and knowledge. Outreach visits are a real team effort with all hands on deck, as is shown in the short video. In a resource poor environment eye health personnel are required to adapt to the conditions on the ground and work together to deliver quality eye care services. Cataract surgery and spectacle dispensing are the most common treatment outcomes for patients during outreach visits. Andrew Koch, volunteer Optometrist through ProVision/Optometry Giving Sight put together a short video of the recent Suai outreach visit - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgyzjaPUOxI
