08.01.2022 Meet Randall, sitting in the Parklands where he used to sleep before coming to Hutt St Centre for help. Living on the street, I felt like an outcast in society.... I felt like an empty shell that no-one wanted: not my family, friends or society. I felt like a ghost walking around Adelaide: as if people didnt see me. If they did acknowledge my presence, it was with either fear or disgust. I felt abandoned, alone, unwanted, discarded and apart from - not a part of society and my family. As I am writing this, I have a feeling of being sick in my stomach and that is how I felt most of the time while out there. There is a saying that gets around that felt familiar: I didnt want to live, but at the same time I didnt want to die. Hutt St Centre gave me a place to connect with other people and start to feel human again. The simple process of being able to clean myself in a shower, wash my clothes and have a meal under a roof at a clean table meant a lot. I was able to connect with people in the same or similar situation and know that I was not alone." Hutt St Centre helped connect Randall with the services he needed to start rebuilding his life. Hes now been securely housed and working for years. Thank you, Randall for sharing your story. Join the Walk a Mile Challenge today and start fundraising because no one deserves to sleep on the street. www.walkamile.org.au
