25.01.2022 Relax on the weekend let Chris at Easy Care Garden Services take the hard work out of all your mulching needs.

25.01.2022 Tip of the day. How to grow a Frangipani tree. For cuttings up to 2m long, remove any branchlets from the main stem, then scrape vertically around one end of the stem with a blade. This exposes the cambium (the green layer) and may help kickstart callus formation. Leave the cutting for two weeks to develop a callus, then plant the wounded end of the stem into at least 60cm of well-drained soil. Stake the cutting to prevent rocking, then remove the stake when established. Chris.

25.01.2022 Tip of the day. Make soil a sponge. Organic matter (compost or manure) dug into soil or spread thinly (3cm) over the surface as mulch, improves your soil’s ability to absorb and hold water. Chris.

24.01.2022 Tip of the day. Fighting weeds can seem like a constant battle, especially in the growing season. As weeds deprive other plants of nutrients, water and light, it’s vital to remove weeds regularly and to start doing this in early spring. By dealing with weeds promptly, you can get them under control and stop them from returning. Chris.

23.01.2022 Tip of the day. Check that hoses and irrigation systems are free of leaks, and unblock the nozzles. Clear debris from gutters so that every shower funnels extra water into your rainwater tank. Chris.

22.01.2022 Tip of the day. No matter how big or small your garden might be, growing your own fruit, vegetables and even herbs can be especially rewarding. This is a great summer project for the kids - ask them for their garden ideas and plant their favorite fruit and veggies. They'll enjoy them so much more knowing they've been grown in their own garden! Chris.

21.01.2022 Tip of the day. Freshly planted vegetable and flower seedlings are likely to need bit of sun hardening. Shelter them with 50 per cent shadecloth, old net curtains, dead palm fronds, or leafy branches for a week or two. This helps them establish without harm.

20.01.2022 Tip of the day. Drain the fuel at the end of each mowing season Lawn mower repair technicians say old fuel is one of the main suspects when a mower won’t start. You should run the remaining fuel out of the mower or drain it at the end of each mowing season, and always use fresh fuel in the spring. Chris.

16.01.2022 Tip of the day. If a thorn breaks off in your skin, and especially if it has gone straight in and deep, keep an eye on the wound to make sure it stays clean and heals promptly. If pain, redness or swelling develops, or if the thorn remains embedded in your skin, seek medical assistance. Even a small infection can form an abscess that will need to be lanced to release excessive material your body sends to fight the infection. Have a nice day. Chris.

15.01.2022 Tip of the day. Does your camellia drop its buds and flowers? As camellias initiate budding in summertime, sudden loss of buds and flowers is often consequence of the plants drying out, particularly when they are growing in containers. Mulch and water deeply once or twice weekly during hot, dry weather to limit this common and irritating problem.

13.01.2022 Tip of the day. Garden soils contain micro-organisms that may be harmful to your health. Always wear gloves, keep damp while in use, avoid inhaling the mix & wash your hands after use. Chris.

12.01.2022 Tip of the day. Sometimes it’s just not possible to do everything you want to do in the garden. If you’re short of time but like your garden to look cared for, some fresh mulch, a few strategically placed flowering plants and a freshly edged lawn will give your garden a lift. Chris

09.01.2022 Tip of the day. Know your soil type Get to know your soil type. When you know this, you will know how to manage it and get the best out of it. There are three basic types - sand, silt and clay - and if you are not sure about what you have, ask your neighbours if there isn't a nursery or garden centre nearby. Chris.

07.01.2022 Tip of the day. Potted plants, especially those in terracotta pots, are vulnerable to overheating. Lightly mulch and, where possible, position them out of hot western sunshine. Remember that standing potted plants in saucers of water encourages root rot and mosquito breeding. Instead, stand them in saucers filled with sand, and keep the sand moist. This ensures roots stay cool and plants remain healthy. If potted plants dry out to the point where re-wetting is hard, soak them in a bucket of water for half an hour, then drain.Chris.

05.01.2022 Tip of the day. Brown, bare, weed-infested lawns are symptoms of scalping, which means cutting lawns too low. It’s a misconception that cutting lawns low reduces the cutting frequency. Instead, mow lawns as high aS your mower permits. Longer turf wears better, but most important of all, a thick sward suppresses pernicious weeds such as oxalis and bindii. Chris.

05.01.2022 Tip of the day. Baking soda makes an inexpensive control for powdery mildew on plants. The baking soda fungicide is mostly effective as a preventative, offering only minimal benefits after your plants have become infected. Weekly spraying of susceptible plants during humid or damp weather can greatly reduce the incidence of powdery mildew in your garden. Chris.

04.01.2022 If yr thinking of protecting your plants / veggie patch from dogs / puppies let me help by putting up a dog proof fence easily installed & very effective

03.01.2022 Tip of the day. Water in the cool of the day. The best time is morning but, if you water in the afternoon, allow enough time for foliage to dry out before sunset. This reduces the risk of mildew and other fungi attacking leaves, and there’s less chance you’ll get caught by the evening shift of mosquitoes or sandflies.Chris.

02.01.2022 Tip of the day. Prune your trees Pruning is something that typically needs to be done once a year to encourage new growth and ensure your trees stay in top condition. Experts recommend that during their first year, trees should be pruned back by around a third. Chris.

02.01.2022 Merry christmas & happy new year to all my customers. See you in 2015. Chris.

01.01.2022 Tip of the day. In Australia, termites perform the same beneficial environmental services as earthworms, and activity increases where soils are warm and moist. Most species are disinclined to attack household and garden timber. But be on guard for pest species and keep garden tools with wooden handles, hardwood stakes and other timber temptations off the ground. Avoid spreading woodchip closer than 1m to houses or timber sheds, and keep soil dry in this zone to help divert their foraging. Protect untreated timber, such as benches and garden bed edging, from decay. There are some non-toxic products around that are safe for making kids’ play equipment and raised vegie beds. Chris.
