25.01.2022 When it comes to feedback, do you fumble or rumble? Either way, this'll help. #feedback #communication #leadership #story

25.01.2022 "Be so good they can't ignore you" ~ Steve Martin Passion arises from mastery. Not the other way round. So forget chasing passion, master your craft. That's Cal Newport's take on the "follow your passion" myth and why we should ignore it and do the exact opposite. Based on Steve Martin’s philosophy that mastery is the key to success, Newport's book is a timely mindset shift with some very practical guidance on how to build a compelling and meaningful career.... If "follow your passion" or "do what you love" leaves you scratching your head about how and where to start, then "So Good They Can’t Ignore You: Why skills trump passion in the quest for work you love" could be just what you're looking for. Find something interesting to do. Get really, really good at it. Use it to help people. Simple. #leadership #persistence #lifelonglearning

24.01.2022 We live in an increasingly VUCA world - volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous. To lead in this absurd and contradictory time requires an appetite for paradox - the capacity to embrace simultaneously true but competing ideas and allow their interactions to create something new and valuable as we explore the edges of the unknown that envelops us. Leadership in 2020 is to admit that we are not in control. We can accept instead that we are in charge.... We are in charge of how we respond to the unpredictability that swirls around us. We are in charge of what is worthy of our attention. We are in charge of our attitude. And we are in charge of what actions we choose to take (or not take). Chaos and the 'spaciousness of uncertainty' becomes a studio, a workshop of possibilities, a creative space where leaders forge a storm's-eye masterpiece. #Leadership #VUCAworld #creativity #innovationculture

23.01.2022 Hope is not a strategy. True. But any strategy that does include hope is just that - hopeless. Rebecca Solnit says it well, 'Hope locates itself in the premises that we don't know what will happen and that in the spaciousness of uncertainty is room to act. When you recognize uncertainty, you recognize that you may be able to influence the outcomes you alone or you in concert with a few dozen or several million others.' Wise visioning allows for uncertainty because no plan e...ver survives a collision with reality. And more. A wise strategy has a living breathing heart - one that is inspired by hope. The courage to believe that in the 'spaciousness of uncertainty' we have room to act. That our actions always matter. And that what we do makes a difference. Hope is tenacious courage to believe we have the power to make things better than they are now. Our strategy is hope in action. The proof is in the doing. #hope #strategy #vision #actionplan #inspiration #leadership #communication #easyteams

23.01.2022 Steve Jobs says it best, People think FOCUS means saying yes to the thing you've got to focus on. But that's not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are."

21.01.2022 Why is it so important to stop and reflect on our day? Download the free tip sheet here: https://easyteams.com.au/videos/ The answer is super simple. And it’s this We don’t learn from experience. ... I mean, think about it. If that were true, there’d be no idiots. Because none of us learn just from experience. We learn and change only when we REFLECT on our experience. So a short reflection at day’s-end is an incredibly valuable personal habit to develop. It’s also a great way to wrap up a team project or a team meeting, and to hang on to those ah-ha moments we get at seminars and workshops. Benjamin Franklin’s blueprint for success was to ask himself two questions every day. In the morning, What good shall I do this day? And in the evening, What good did I do today? Such a simple formula, but it helped Ben Franklin become one of the most prolific and influential leaders of his era. Likewise today, Bill Gates and Warren Buffet both describe reflective practices as vital for their business success. It only takes a few minutes to stop at the end of our workday and ask some basic questions: What went well today? What didn’t go well? What did I learn from these experiences? What did I learn about myself? In what ways can I improve for next time? After all, if we have a dud day, it’s important to know why. If we don’t win, at least we can learn. We can adjust and do better next time. And if we have a fantastic day, it’s even more important to know why. We might like to have another one. The more reflective we are, the more effective we are. Now if you don’t already have a daily reflective practice, to get you started you can download a tip sheet on the link below. Download the free tip sheet here: https://easyteams.com.au/videos/

19.01.2022 Jeff Bezos credits much of the success of Amazon to a "Day One" mindset. Every day is Day One. There is no day two. It's about taking deliberate, persistent, consistent action towards a desired outcome. Listening to feedback, reflecting, adjusting, refining and taking the next action. There is only one day, and it's today. Let's make the most of it! #dayone #liferewardsaction #now #leadership #tteams

18.01.2022 100 hours per year. That's how many hours of reading and learning current research tells us we need to do just to stay relevant. Anything less than that and we're falling woefully behind. To not invest time and money (at least 1-3% of annual salary) in yourself and your team's development is to conspire in your own rapid irrelevance and inevitable demise. So while you're plotting and planning and visioning for 2020, make sure you carve out some space and time, and a line item in the budget, for training and professional development. All the best leaders do. #leadership #teams #lifelonglearning #culture #yourteam #professionaldevelopment

17.01.2022 7 reasons why NOW is the best time to engage a mentor, coach or trainer for your team: 1. Something Wonderful Happened! Your business is booming right now. All good? Not usually. Change brings new challenges. Get outside eyes on your issues and move forward with greater clarity.... 2. Something Terrible Happened! Feels like your business is in the shredder. Doesn't mean it's all bad. (See above for outside eyes) 3. Nothing Is Happening! A good facilitator helps you discover why you’re stuck, dissolve obstacles, and devise a plan for action, traction and momentum. 4. How Do I Make It Happen? We don't know what we don't know. There's always someone else who does. We don't ask, we don't get. So ask. 5. What The Heck Is Happening? Chaos can be confusing. And yet, if everything's up in the air, we can choose what to catch and what to let go. A mentor can restore certainty so you turn chaos into creativity. 6. Now What Happens? Bam. You decided, or someone decided for you. Congratulations! You haven't figured out what’s next but a good coach can help you do just that! 7. Great Prices Are Happening! Everyone's offering discounts right now. And yeah, that includes me. Now's a perfect time to invest in your people. Let's talk. www.easyteams.com.au #peoplefirst #businessgrowth #leadership

15.01.2022 Albert Einstein said we can't solve a problem using the same thinking that created it. Doing different is often just rearranging our prejudices, biases and blind spots. 13.01.2022 False starts, wrong turns, missed steps, dud ideas, poor decisions, misplaced trust, over-reaching, under-estimating, distractions, assumptions and outright carelessness - I can tick all those boxes and more And what I love about that, what encourages me the most is that every biography I've ever read, that person's "success" journey looks as crazy as mine! #next! #backyourself #winning

11.01.2022 We lug a suitcase of memories with us into every new situation. Our choice is whether to see it as luggage or baggage. And how we unpack it to use in the here and now. We only have this moment. Let's do our best, with what we have, right where we are. The real test is not whether you avoid failure, because you won’t. It’s whether you let it harden or shame you into inaction, or whether you learn from it; whether you choose to persevere. Barack Obama #leadership #grit #persistence #experience #wisdom #winning

10.01.2022 To delegate decision-making is a powerful way to build trust and grow emerging leaders. Susan Scott's "decision tree" model is a perfect way to begin the conversation. Download a free tip sheet here: https://easyteams.com.au/videos/ There are four levels of decision: leaf, branch, trunk and root. Four stages of delegated trust in proportion to the degree of potential harm or good to the company as action is taken:... Leaf decisions: Make the decision. Act on it. Do not report the action you took. Branch decisions: Make the decision. Act on it. Report the action you took. Trunk decisions: Make the decision. Discuss your decision before you act on it. Root decisions: Discuss and make the decision jointly, with input from many people. These are the decisions that, if poorly made and implemented, could cause major harm to the company. The decision tree releases people to take on greater levels of responsibility. The metaphors of leaf, branch, trunk and roots define levels of risk or potential harm to the organisation. Poor decisions at any level can hurt an organisation, but recovering from damaged leaves is much easier than recovering from damaged roots. The idea is to encourage our teams to move more and more decisions to the leaf and branch levels as their capacity and confidence grows. There are four key benefits to having a Decision Tree conversation with our teams: 1. Greater clarity about what categories various decisions and actions fall into 2. Greater clarity and confidence about what authority and responsibilities belong to each team member 3. A clearer upward path for professional development. Progress is made when decisions are moved up the various levels from root to leaf as staff gain experience and capacity to make better decisions. 4. The decision tree model makes it easy to grow grassroots leadership from within our organisation. Which frees up leaders and executives to take on more challenging responsibilities themselves. Susan Scott says it best, This is a great way to tell people where they are free to play and how they can grow. Best of all, if you follow the Decision Tree model, your team will take on more responsibility and your own to-do list will shrink. Download a free tip sheet here: https://easyteams.com.au/videos/

04.01.2022 How much should you invest in professional development? If you and your team are not learning, you’re losing in results, culture and talent retention. Look at any global workforce survey over the last 2-3 years (Deloitte, Gallup, LinkedIn, Google, APAC) and you’ll hear the same story everywhere. People are looking for employers who will support them to meet future job requirements. And that means training that helps them grow their capacity, skills and knowledge.... A massive 93% of staff say they would stay longer with a company that invests in their careers (LinkedIn 2018 Workforce Learning Report). Learning and development opportunities are expected by today’s talent. It signals that you value your people and are actively interested in their success as much as your company’s. Soft skills top the list. Leadership, communication and collaboration skills rate well above role specific skills every time. If you don’t have a line item in your budget for this kind of training, you’re already falling behind. If you’re coasting, you’re going down hill. So how much should be paying? A simple rule of thumb is between one and three percent of overall salary costs. If your paying more than 3% for learning and development, fire your training provider. If you’re paying less than 1%, fire yourself. #leadership #teams #professionaldevolpment #businessgrowth

04.01.2022 Strategic planning is dead. It’s a flat line. Too much time is wasted on thinking and theories. By the time we take action, the world has changed and the plan is irrelevant. As Susan Scott points out in her excellent book Fierce Conversations, No plan ever survives a collision with reality. Strategic doing is deliberate and persistent daily action towards a desired outcome. All of nature follows this pattern ebb and flow, tides and seasons, day and night. Strategic doing has a pulse, a heart beat. It’s an energy wave. It has momentum. It’s alive! More at... https://easyteams.com.au/strategic-doing/
