25.01.2022 NEW PODCAST EPISODE! FAST TRACKED - touching on Gut Health and Immunity! In this episode I talk to fellow dietitian Joanna Baker (@theguthealthdietitian) who specializes in gut health to uncover the cross over between gut health and digestive function with Eating disorders and Hypothalamic Amenorrhea (HA).... It is common for people with HA and Eating disorders to struggle with digestion function and in this episode we explain why and the best way to treat and manage your symtoms and overall health. Joanna also talks about the importance of gut health and your gut microbiome. The gut microbiome is like a community of healthy bacteria in you gut. We all have about 1-2kg of gut bacteria and this has a big influence of mental health, emotional health, body weight, chronic disease and immunity. People who eat 30 or more different plants foods per week have a much more diverse gut microbiome than those that have 10 or less. Plant foods contain prebiotics which contain the fuel and nourishment for your gut bacteria. When they are fed well they will grow and thrive. Different types of bacteria are picky eaters so they more variety in the food you eat, especially plant foods the better! 24.01.2022 Celebrating another client win today! My client recovered her period after 5 years! She was on a scholarship at her college recruited to play Le Cross. Her sport & her fitness identity was who she thought she was. ... Her bones had already started to suffer & she knew that talking calcium supplements was not the long term solution. She knew deep down what she needed to do, reduce exercise, eat more & gain some weight as she was currently under a healthy weight. But she was scared. She struggled to rest from exercise & couldnt cope with the anxiety and guilt of not exercising. There were times that before her runs she would be in tears as she was exhausted but again she couldnt handle the guilt of not exercising or being weak so she always pushed through. She saw an opportunity with Covid 19 & college break so she worked up the courage & took the first step in seeking help from me! Throughout her recovery she overcome food rules with carbs, fats & amounts. She was shocked one day when she allowed herself to have bread without guilt & enjoyed it!! She went from training 2/day to having full rest days, walking not running & swapped out her high volume training (HIIT & weight training) for more supportive movement. She did find it hard to let go of the exercise & then I told her my story. She then surrendered to the exercise for 2 wks & did very minimal. She knew if she wanted to recover her period fast & get back to the season by August she needed to give it 100%! Only days after surrendering to the exercise she saw cervical mucus for the first time in 5 yrs which was encouraging for her! And then soon after her first period arrived! I am so proud of the way she went about her recovery. It was not about just the physical healing but also the mental! From our work with intuitive eating, cognitive behavioral therapy & mindfulness she no longer feels DEPENDENT on exercise & she knows she is so much more than an athlete. This is my favorite example of turning a shit situation (covid 19) into a big positive! If you resonate with this story & want to FULLY recover & be set free too then register for my e course today! https://www.eatingfit.com.au/product/ecourse/
24.01.2022 NEW PODCAST EPISODE Do you have PCOS or confused between PCOS & Hypothalamic Amenorrhea? Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common hormonal disorder in women of reproductive age.... PCOS affects 12-18% of women of reproductive age & up to 21% in some high-risk groups, such as Indigenous women. PCOS can cause irregular periods, trouble falling pregnant, acne, excess hair growth, an increased risk of type 2 diabetes & difficulty managing weight. Hypothalamic Amenorrhea is a condition that shares some similarities with PCOS including absent or irregular periods & polycystic ovaries. Having a special interest in this area & working with many women to recover their periods I have learned the importance of distinguishing between the two as many people with HA are misdiagnosed with PCOS. The big difference between the two is the HA is treatable whereas PCOS is about managing symptoms. The treatment for HA is about correcting the energy deficit & in many cases weight gain & reducing exercise volume and intensity to allow the body to feel it is safe & to heal. In HA, essentially the body has been forced into energy conservation mode, most often from restrictive eating. Unfortunately many people who have PCOS are told to lose weight despite a lack of evidence that weight loss diets work in the long term. There are also cases where someone may have both HA & PCOS. In this episode I talk to fellow dietitian @stephanie_pirotta_apd who is completing her PhD in PCOS & has great knowledge & experience in this area to help us provide more clarity on PCOS diagnosis & management. Stephanie is an Accredited Practising Dietitian & Nutritionist with a passion in women’s health, particularly nutrition for Pre conception, pregnancy, PCOS & endometriosis. Stephanie is about to complete her PhD in PCOS at Monash University which focuses on developing an evidence-based, co-designed community lifestyle program for women with PCOS. To translate her research into practice she also works as a private practice dietitian at @allforonestudios in Yarraville Melbourne. Listen now on iTunes or Spotify or visit www.eatingfit.com.au
24.01.2022 How do I stop Emotional Eating Food restriction from dieting (intentional) or from being busy/caught up, loss of appetite (unintentional), both physically and mentally, can trigger loss of control, which can feel like emotional eating. Anxiety, frustration, hopelessness, loneliness, boredom, and anger are emotions we all experience throughout life.... Although food or may comfort for the short term, distract you or numb you from pain, food won’t fix any of these feelings or solve the problem. In fact in the long run it is more likely eating for an emotional hunger will make you feel worse. You’ll eventually have to deal with the cause of the emotion. Many of us cope with uncomfortable feelings and unmet needs by: eating, binge eating, or food restriction/dieting. Often we are not even aware. Firstly emotional hunger & eating is separate from physical hunger. I teach my clients how to identify emotional eating & how to take effective action using these 3 questions: 1On a scale of 1-10 where am I on the hunger scale? (Swipe for scale) 2What emotion am I feeling right now? 3What do I NEED right now? (i.e. distraction if pain is too intense such as the death of a loved one, support, deal directly with the feeling or self care?) E.g If you are feeling nervous about your new job, catching up with old friends or a date tomorrow & you turn to food for an escape, to distract you or find comfort but after left feeling over full, sick & guilty then food & eating is NOT solving the problem. To answer the questions: 1/ 6 (slightly full), not physically hungry 2/ Nervous 3/ Support Call a friend, write in a journal or try reframing your thoughts that are triggering the feelings Give it a try and let me know how it works for you! Remember some emotional eating is ok & not harmful. Eg occasionally having some chocolate when not physically hungry for some pleasure or enjoyment BUT if MOST of your eating is non hungry eating, makes you feel even WORSE & prevents you from dealing with the problems then it is NOT HELPFUL! If you are READY to overcome emotional eating book a free 30 min discovery call via link in bio to apply for my 1:1 coaching
23.01.2022 We’ve got news!
23.01.2022 @lennyroseactive you are a genius with your pre and postnatal active wear! Zip open and we have milk on Tap! No taking tops on and off and getting cold Happy mama = happy baby .... . Breastfeeding on the other hand... It sure has been a journey for the sensitive breasts and nipples! Got a new nursing pillow today which is providing soooo much more support for us both! I also watched a video online from @ozbreastfeeding yesterday about latch which was so helpful and a great refresh! This was ALL brand new to me as I didnt expect to breastfeed so didnt really even prepare! I bought a bottle to the hospital! My mum and nana had no milk so I assumed the same. I am extremely grateful for the milk and the experience with my daughter. Its an amazing feeling knowing I am fueling my daughter. . In the hospital you are taking in so much new information and your boobs change so fast so sometimes you need to keep changing approach, especially when your milk comes in on day 2 and you feel like you are seriously going to BURST!!! I also thought it was going to be like that forever but then happily learned it was only for a few days! I had ice, nipple hydrogen disks, was trying to drain a breast each feed and applying breast milk to my damaged, bleeding and raw nipples! Nipples still in recovery now but fingers crossed we are on the way up!! . I am grateful for all that I learned from the staff at @stvincentsprivatebaby and how they supported us. My tip for mamas to be is to do some general research on breast feeding, start with @ozbreastfeeding , they have a stack of resources and lactation consultants if you need! Or... just go in for the ride like I did but be ready for a steep learning curve!!!
23.01.2022 3 weeks and 2 days old! Our hearts are full and so is our camera roll! We can’t keep our eyes off you darling. Wearing her bear pants from @countryroad road, jumper from @cottononkids, bunny slippers for Iso from @peteralexanderofficial and head band from @snugglehunnykids ... No where to go in Stage 4 lockdown in Melbourne but we can still have fun with dress ups ... even if the outfit lasts for 20 mins @ Hampton, Victoria, Australia See more
22.01.2022 An appreciation post for @srchealth Recovery Leggings. I had heard many positive reviews and recommendations about them from many mums. I also did my research and learned they were designed in consultation with an obstetrician. The SRC Recovery garments aid in the treatment of C-section wounds, ... Abdominal muscle separation (Diastasis Rectus Abdominus Muscle DRAM) and Lower back pain. Lucky my order arrived before my emergency/surprise/earlier than planned C section and I had them packed in my suitcase! To be honest when I first looked at them post c section I thought they would be too challenging to put on, go to bathroom etc but was as soon as I put them on the support they offered was like next level pain killers! I feel so supported from the my abdominals to my calves! I am way off time to be back to any form of exercise apart from pelvic floor activations and I am 100% fine with this. The next 4-6 weeks is about time with my baby, recovery, replenishment and trying to be as horizontal as much as possible ! Exercise now does NOT serve me! My training through pregnancy was so enjoyable. I had a great balance and focused on strength for pregnancy. I was consistent and intuitive. I am grateful for my background and years of experience as a personal trainer, strength and Conditioning Coach and Yoga Teacher. My training included 3-4 strength sessions /week with lots of deep core and stability work. Less load, more reps. I also enjoyed walking daily with Darby. I have SO much appreciation for my beautiful body after CREATING, GROWING and FEEDING a baby. Becoming a mother really changes your perspective and priorities about everything!
22.01.2022 The root cause of Hypothalamic Amenorrhea is STRESS & Low Energy Availability (LEA). The hypothalamus is the control centre of the brain & receives & directs signals around the body. It's function is to preserve life. When energy is chronically low from intentional or unintentional under fueling the body makes adaptations to preserve energy & become more energy efficient.... Changes in the menstrual cycle including longer cycles, shorter luteal phases & then complete cessation of the period is one of the most obvious signs in women. But this is not the only system of the body effected. Low energy availability is commonly a result or restrictive dieting but can also be caused from illness & stress where appetite is reduced & also over exercise where appetite can also be blunted & insufficient energy/food is consumed & increased levels of cortisol (stress hormone) in the body. Although it is common for underweight women to lose their periods as a result of long term energy restriction, significant weight loss & inadequate fat stores, women can certainly experience all of the same symptoms in a larger body. Body weight, % body fat or BMI is not a diagnostic criteria for Hypothalamic Amenorrhea. The steps to recovering your period will look different for everyone & need to address the root cause. Would you like to restore your period and find food freedom? If YES click link in bio to find clarity on WHY you lost your period and how to get it back. We cover the physical recovery of your menstrual cycle but what is unique about my course is that I help you to DIG out the roots of what led you to lose your period in the first place and help you to reconnect and trust your body again. The relationship with your body is the MOST important relationship of all! Due to taking a break for soon I have been working hard putting EVERYTHING I know and have learned, professionally, personally and through my experience working with many other women! I am so proud to launch my e course on 1st June & I am offering a pre launch discount of $100! Link in bio! Dont miss out!! See more

21.01.2022 Hands up if your permission to eat carb foods is DEPENDENT on your exercise? Many of my clients when they first come to see me FEAR carbs. They only give themselves PERMISSION to eat certain Amounts... Types At certain meals eg not at dinner Days ie weekends or training days Does this sound like you too? Question: Would you tell your son/daughter that they can only have pasta/potato/bread (carb foods) IF they did enough exercise that day? If not, WHY not? Your body craving putting a warm jacket on when cold is like craving carbs when energy is low. They are signs your body works! I listen to the diet histories of my clients every day! It’s always the same: 1. Feel they need to change their body so they are more loved/accepted/worthy 2. Recognize food has an impact on body size & starts to restrict food 3. Initial weight loss 4. Praised/ attention from others 5. Fear of gaining back the weight 6. The restrictive diet &/or high loads of exercise gets harder to maintain. Their body senses a stress of low energy availability & tries to correct the threat (thoughts, increased appetite, low energy, craving for energy dense carbs rich foods) 7. They have a weak moment , eat carbs, feel so GUILTY.. & feel like they just lack willpower 8. The compensatory behaviors begin - exercise, eating less that next day .. & so on...driven from fear. 9. This is where they become stuck - FIGHTING against their own body 10. Some become very restrictive & may continue to under-fuel (& has consequences!!) & others may find themselves stuck in the restrict binge cycle. THIS cycle is so LIFE SUCKING & what I help my clients escape from! The first step is reconnecting with your appetite. But to truly overcome these behaviors or NOT trusting your body comes down to deeply rooted beliefs about your self worth & weight. These are the ROOTS that I work with my clients to pull out! & THIS is the huge life changing moment! If you too are stuck in this cycle & want to learn how to escape then you can follow my proven framework in my self paced, e course that you can do in the comfort of your own home! 19.01.2022 NEW PODCAST ALERT Podcast Episode 17: Hypothalamic Amenorrhea, Stigma and Recovery with Elena Kunicki . I have begun to realise that there are a lot of misconceptions around Hypothalamic Amenorrhea or HA especially around WHO gets it, HOW it is caused, WHAT recovery involves and what the journey to recovering your period offers. When I thought about getting my period back many years ago all I saw was all I had to give up or let go of which lead to fear, denial and ignoring... the problem. If I knew then what I do now about what my recovery journey offered me I would not have wasted over 6 years before I started taking action! My passion to help raise awareness that no period is not ok and supporting my clients through the recovery journey is fuelled by my own personal experience and I am on a mission to provide knowledge and inspiring stories from others in order to inspire you! In this episode I have invited fellow dietitian Elena to share her journey with HA and her words of wisdom! Elena (@weight.lifting.nutritionist ) is a virtual dietitian for weight-lifting women who want to improve their relationship with food and fitness. Through her own journey to food freedom after a 6-year long restrictive relationship with food and fitness leading to bingeing, loss of period, and anxiety around food (among other things), she developed a passion for helping other women overcome similar struggles. 19.01.2022 NEW PODCAST EPISODE Given the current situation with COVID-19 I know now more than ever many are feeling more stressed and this can show up in their relationship with food. Binge eating is a problem many of my clients present with and want to eliminate.... Someone struggling with binge eating will often experience guilt, loss of control, failure and have a belief that the answer lies in having better control and willpower! In reality treatment for binge eating has nothing to do with willpower or failure. Binge eating is a normal physiological response to restriction. In this episode I chat with fellow dietitian Nina Mills (@feelgoodeating ) about what binge eating is and how we overcome it! A spoiler, it’s not another diet! Download now on iTunes or Spotify! I really wanted to ignore it and just get my work done but Lucas wanted me to call the hospital to let them know. 16.01.2022 Taking a break between courses (sides) . . Ok I am so grateful for being ABLE to breastfeed meaning I have a lot of milk (so far)!! Nova has also gained heaps of weight (from 3.08 to 3.82kg in 3 weeks 4 days)... BUT I dont want to be dishonest and say its been easy! My nipples still look like my dog Darby has been chewing on them ... and feeding every 3 hours day and night with feed times from 45 - 75 mins in duration (so not 3 hours off!) does not give much recovery time! Ive tried so many things to help with healing and read every blog/article online and Lucas has been a regular at the chemist picking up the next thing! We learned yesterday Nova has a high palate (roof of mouth) and tongue tie/short tongue which means getting a deep latch is more challenging. This made a bit of sense to me as I was doing everything the videos and articles were telling me but still had so much pain! I am now playing around with new positions to support this and this is helping. I post this because I never knew how much was involved!! Its not just whip your boob out and enjoy a calming suck! When your nipples are damaged +++ and you have a hungry baby coming at you it is kind of scary! Of course all you want to do is feed her. So you do. You will do anything for them. This type of pain I never would have put up with before being a mum! But I totally understand WHY breastfeeding is not for everyone and switching to formula may be the best thing for many mums for an array or reasons. I also get the pressure that breast is best and encourage everyone to be open an non judgmental to whatever method a mum chooses to feed her baby. She will only be doing what is the best for their situation. Ok tell me what was your breastfeeding/feeding experience REALLY like? See more
16.01.2022 Happy first Father’s Day @lucas_giannotti ! I am not sure Nova knows just how well she has scored with a dad like you yet! I have never been happier doing this parenting gig with you! Although I don’t want time to go too fast I also can’t wait for all adventures ahead! Thank you for sharing your life with me and all the support, love and fun you offer!... Love always Amy, Nova and Darby! See more

16.01.2022 NEW PODCAST EPISODE! Body Image is a VITAL piece in the Recovery of an Eating Disorder and Disordered Eating. Too often it is neglected that Eating Disorders are psychological illnesses and that weight restoration does not mean full recovery. Further, people suffering from eating disorders and a poor relationship with food can live in ANY size body. Treatment goes much deeper than just food and eating and will involve improving one’s RELATIONSHIP with food, exercise and... body. Recovery will involve looking at beliefs and understanding the LENS one looks through. In this episode I have invited Bianca Skilbeck (@freedom.from.food ) to chat further about the role of body image in eating disorders as a risk factor and also in treatment. 15.01.2022 If you told me back then that I was going to love my body MORE... I would not have wasted 7 years fighting my own body!! I was reflecting with my husband this week about how much things have changed over the past 1-2 years! We both remember how hard it was for me in the beginning to change my lifestyle to recover my period.. It felt like the hardest thing in the world to eat more, eat FAT, allow myself to gain weight and force myself to NOT exercise.... I was worried people would think I had let myself go & that I would be a nobody. He said and really looking back you have NOT lost anything! All you have done is gained! This was SO true! The only things I have lost is FEAR! I cant tell you how FREE & CONFIDENT I now feel! Taking the first steps in HA recovery was the hardest thing Ive ever done. I didnt know if I could actually recover my period or have the chance to fall pregnant. BUT because I DID do this my confidence has exploded in so many areas of my life! I honestly tell myself If I can recover my period after 7 years & fall pregnant naturally I can do anything! This has FUELED my passion & determination to help others recover their period & fertility too! And now having helped 11 women recover their period in 2020 too I KNOW I have a proven framework that others can follow! I have also wanted to create an online course for YEARS! But the little voice alway told me I am not hardworking enough or I am not smart enough.. Well last night I uploaded the FINAL teaching lesson to my course to go LIVE on Monday! I am so friggen proud! If you too are sick of living in fear of taking action to get your period but also fear the consequences of not, or you are confused about the fastest way to do so, then allow me to take you through a very special journey step by step! If you know me by now this course is SO much more than physical recovery of your period. It is NOT just a meal plan that tells you calorie targets you must hit or tells you to cut out all exercise! The heart of this course is to show you how to pull out the ROOTS of what go you here in the first place & set you free! If you are ready now https://www.eatingfit.com.au/product/ecourse/
15.01.2022 You want to know the best time to recover your period and fertility? . NOW! . For many women across the world this corona virus pandemic has made everyone have to slow down. Gyms are still closed for many, there are restrictions eating and exercising outside, running and sporting events have been canceled or postponed. ... . For many women in my e course they have used this as an OPPORTUNITY. And for many, already recovered their period they feel more free then they have in years! . Instead of seeing it as why is this happening for me? They see its as this is happening FOR me. . The treatment for HYPOTHALAMIC AMENORRHEA is simple. . Show your body that it is safe and energy is available. . Energy from food and rest are your treatment! . In my e course I support you with guidelines on WHAT, WHEN and HOW much to eat to fuel your recovery and health. . I do not prescribe calorie targets because my aim in this journey is to transition you to an intuitive eater. . The initial recovery phase is what we call the nutrition rehabilitation phase. . Because your satiety meter from years of restriction and food fear may be broken AND your digestive function has become more sluggish in energy conservation mode I am here to SUPPORT you to get your body working again. . From day 1 we also start working on principles of intuitive eating, reconnect you with your body and make peace with food. . For the e course members and my clients the most important and transformational work is the deeper work on yourself worth and limiting self beliefs. These are at the roots!! . If you want to recover your period and know the problems or challenges are much deeper than just eating more and resting then click link in below now and join my e course and community! https://www.eatingfit.com.au/product/ecourse/

Very supportive for both Nova and dad! Also helpful when taking Darby for a walk as she often runs off on to the beach for a ... and very hard to pick it up without leaving pram! 14.01.2022 11 of the best days of my entire life, hands down! We could not be more proud, in love and grateful for you Nova Today we weighed in at 265g above birth weight! A great sign shes feeding well! I am beyond grateful for the care and support from @lucas_giannotti ! Recovery from a C section leaves you very fragile and sore for the first 1-2 weeks and the only way to progress is to rest. ... The last few days pain has really reduced and can shower almost pain free but moving slowly/cautiously. Ive also checked in with @shirakramerwhphysio for some guidance and a general assessment and started a very slow online progressive rehab plan called Restore your core. This week includes daily pelvic floor and TVA activation, stretches, abdominal massage and walking. Yesterdays walk was 7 mins! Aiming for 10 mins by end of week! I know slow and steady is smart and recovery with horizontal time is crucial! It doesnt matter how fit or strong I was before I still need to recover from major abdominal surgery. There are no short cuts! This may sound like a big thing, but my prioritys right now and what makes me happy is just caring for my daughter. Exercise will be there for me to go back to but this time with my daughter wont ! See more

13.01.2022 Yes we are still alive and well! Apologies it’s been a while!! To be honest I am sticking a phone (camera) in Novas face enough trying to capture special moments..I haven’t wanted to miss out on more from scrolling on my phone ... Even if she’s feeding or sleeping on my chest I want to SOAK it ALLL in and not be too distracted. As we all know it’s addictive and time can fly by without you noticing... I appreciate the messages asking if I’m ok? ...I’ve just decided to log ...in and say hello on a Saturday! I love and appreciate Instagram ...but I’ve only got these precious early days with her once and I am making the most of every second! She’s already 11 weeks old today!! 13.01.2022 Mumas to be - my biggest tip for supporting your recovery and managing pain is the @srchealth leggings and or mini shorts! I have them both! SRC Recovery garments are designed to aid in the treatment of C-section wounds (me!!)... Perineal trauma Episiotomy wounds. They also treat multiple postpartum conditions such as Abdominal muscle separation (Diastasis Rectus Abdominus Muscle I I had about 2.5 cm when last checked) and Lower back pain. I have been sleeping in them and my swelling from surgery has gone down so much in just 7 days! I feel I can move so much more freely wearing them and they give me the extra support my abdominals cant at the moment. I know I still have a long way to go to regain strength for just activities of daily living but I am feeling more confident in these! My #1 motivation to recovery is to be able to play pain free with my daughter and I cant wait to take her for a walk in the pram along the beach with my whole family - @lucas_giannotti and @miss_darby_the_frenchie @ Hampton, Victoria, Australia
12.01.2022 Wow not even 2 days and old and life without her feels like forever ago! *Last picture is me with Nova in my belly going in for our meeting at about 5:45pm. First shower on my own today and we also gave Nova her first bath. @lucas_giannotti has been super dad and as I couldnt get up he has been changing her Nappys , clothes and looking after us both like queen and princess. I cant believe I have her on my boob and colostrum is coming out strong, feeding every 2-5 hour. ...Shes got a powerful suck! Hoping for my milk to come soon! I never thought I would be able to breast feed as my mum and her mum had zero. Melbourne has just gone into stage 4 lockdown but we are not fussed, no FOMO here. Loving our new little family bubble. 10.01.2022 My baby girl Nova, 1 week old today! First pic was taken while still in hospital. We have now had 2 nights home and she has made a new little friend in Darby. One of many things that has shocked me is how well you really can function on little sleep! First night there was zero sleep and the following an average of a combined 4-5 hours/night. I am not complaining, I am just surprised at how well I am functioning!... When all you need to do is love and feed your baby life simplifies! I am sure it will catch up on me but nothing will stop me getting up to feed my baby. Oh and my nipples have bled, scabbed over and now healing after I have changed my approach/latch! I cant believe how much I have learned and how life has changed in just one week! I have been horizontal 90%+ of the day to allow my body to heal and avoid more pain. Lucas has been super husband, dad, chef, dog trainer and PA! He has helped me with showering, cooked my my meals, brings me my meds and attends to all the nappy changes, clothes changes and baths. Wow the number of Nappy changes is crazy! But a great sign my milk is flowing !! @lucas_giannotti
10.01.2022 NEW PODCAST EPISODE Poor digestion is a common symptom in those with Hypothalamic Amenorrhea (HA), which is the loss of period and in those with disordered eating or eating disorders. The main underlying driver is low energy availability. When there is a chronic energy deficiency the body responds by becoming more energy efficient.... The loss of period is a common and more obvious outcome for women. Stopping menstruation and fertility is a way the body responds to the stress of low energy availability. But there are many other systems of the body affected. These include poor temperature regulation, decreased bone mineral density, poor growth of hair and nails and poor or sluggish digestion. This may be experienced as frequently feeling bloated and either constipation or diarrhea. Working with many women with HA and disordered eating and having my own journey I recognise there are many other influences on both poor digestion and recovery. One major one in recovery is fear. Fears acting like barriers to recovery can include fear of weight gain, of eating certain foods e.g. foods high in carbs or fat, of reducing exercise volume and intensity to allow the body to heal, of losing their fitness Identity, letting go of all their hard work and of what other will think of them for example thinking they have let themselves go! Many report that they do not trust their appetite. I thought this topic was an important one to cover because for many women who experience poor digestion or IBS this leads to further restrictions of certain foods, fear of foods and pushes them further away from recovery, feeling at peace with food and restoring a healthy menstrual cycle, fertility and ultimately allowing their whole body to heal! I recently learned about gut hypnotherapy with research having some positive outcomes and today I have invited a past guest, Clinical Hypnotherapist and Counsellor Bianca Skilbeck (@freedom.from.food ) to chat much deeper on this area. Listen now on iTunes or Spotify or visit www.eatingfit.com.au for all show notes and to download!

09.01.2022 NEW Podcast Episode alert with @fertilitycharting ! Spoiler: in this episode I drop a huge bombshell !!! . Personally not having a menstrual cycle for 7 years (otherwise known has hypothalamic amenorrhea or HA), during my recovery I realised I knew very little about the female reproductive system, hormones involved and I had never gave much thought to cervical mucus because for years I didn’t have any!... When I embarked on my journey to recovery my period, fertility and then try to conceive I become very interested in all of these areas. Learning more about my cycle, cervical mucus and tracking temperature provided invaluable information for not only tracking the health of my cycle but also to falling pregnant! In this episode we go in to lots of detail about cervical mucus and other signs to look out for to monitor the health of your cycle. This knowledge and understanding will be helpful for those with HA, those who have just recovered their first cycle and may want to implement lifestyle changes such as reintroducing exercise, those who are wanting to fall pregnancy and learn about the right time to do the baby dance and also for those who want to avoid pregnancy without using the Pill! Today’s special guest Jessie Brebner of Fertility Charting is a passionate advocate for Fertility Awareness as a gateway to improved health, body literacy and reproductive empowerment. She is a certified Symptothermal Method Instructor and the creator of Fertility Charting Journals. Jessie is passionate about the power of social media for communicating menstrual cycle health concepts. She also regularly blogs on menstrual cycles, fertility charting, journaling, conception and more! For links to download and all show notes visit www.eatingfit.com.au Podcast
09.01.2022 Nova and I are a big fan of our new MOBY FIT from @mobywrapau . It allows me to be more mobile around and out of the house including able to easily walk out to grab a chai or other essential items in stage 4 lockdown ... all while having her skin to skin and close enough to kiss! Its very soft, supportive and keeps her warm close to me. Its easy to get her in and out and adjust. We also have the MOBY MOVE but @lucas_giannotti has pretty much labeled that as his and it w...orks well to keep his adjustments ready to go! And I DO appreciate their daily walks allowing me to catch some !! So I wont disturb that routine! . #mobyfit #closeenoughtokiss #6weeksold #newmum #novajae #babygirl
09.01.2022 4 weeks post c section and physically and emotionally I feel great! I know I owe this to the support from my husband and the journey it took to get me here has made me so much more grateful! Every few days you will see me crying of happiness and gratitude!! Maybe fueled by hormones and lack of sleep but my heart is still exploding !!! Only a couple of years ago I was infertile and worried I would never get this opportunity! The nipples are still in rehab but after a ...lactation consultation yesterday with the maternal health nurse we left with some new skills and info and Ill be back to visit on Monday. In terms of c section I stopped all pain meds around 2 weeks and I REALLY needed them in the early weeks!! Now I am feeling much more mobile and pretty much pain free. I am enjoying my short walks (with breaks) with my family and continuing with my core rehab with support from @shirakramerwhphysio . With only 2-5 hours combined sleep per day I do not want to jump into too much energy or time demanding training as I think that would impact how I would feel. My scar does have a slight numb feeling but nothing that feels too weird or foreign. I am surprised at how tidy it looks in such a short time! Well done @drguyskinner My linea nigra (pigmented line) I think has faded the slightest but really I love all of these marks as they tell a story for my journey. And this one I am bloody proud of! My beautiful Nova is 4 weeks old today. . This is not meant to be a get my pre pregnant body back post its about me sharing my WHOLE journey openly I hopefully inspire someone who I has also lost their period and scared to take the first few steps of recovery or lacks confidence that they can recover. 09.01.2022 Such a pleasure guest speaking at yesterday’s Wellness Workshop Too Much Of A Good Thing by @flowbytracey at @forgeathletic The event was founded by @flowbytracey and inspired from her personal experience. FLOW by Tracey was developed to help those who are stuck in the vicious burnout, stress, fatigue & busyness trap find their FLOW and live a better and more balanced life. The day offered:... - Yoga & Mindful Movement - Meditation & Breathing Techniques - Myself as Guest Speaker - sharing my personal story of how my definition of a ‘Healthy Life’ has transformed immensely both personally and in my professional life. I also spoke about intuitive eating, appetite awareness, covered binge eating, emotional eating and cravings. My aim was to leave having my audience feeling confident and empowered with their relationship with food and their bodies. I taught them that they have ALL the body wisdom they need to TRUST their bodies WHAT, WHEN and HOW MUCH to eat. Just like they know when they are feeling cold. I provided some tools and practices to implement so they can reconnect with their bodies as for most they have been ignoring them! Eg feeling hungry but thinking I just ate 2.5 hours ago I can’t be hungry, I will wait until dinner time. (Spoiler: maybe there wasn’t enough at your last meal? Or maybe your body just needs another snack?) The workshop continued with Practical Tools & Tips for: - Nourishing Your Body - Self-Care Strategies & Planning - Mindful Living, Gratitude rituals - Managing Stress, Self Management I am so grateful for these opportunities to connect and empower others to have a healthy relationship with food and body! If you are interested in having me speak at your workplace, school or community I would love to hear from you. Email me at [email protected]

08.01.2022 New podcast with @completeper4mancecoaching NOW LIVE! Exercise can offer an endless list of health benefits from improving heart health, bone strength and even mental health. What is less known is the impact of too much exercise, especially when under fuelled. In the recreational athletic setting many athletes believe that to improve performance one needs to push past perceived limits, always be training hard and ignore their bodies telling them to stop. Th...is can also be seen in the fitness culture such as gyms with fitness and weight loss challenges. Unfortunately this can create a dangerous recipe for injury and overall health. Weight loss is often believed to be a sign of fitness, performance and the success of a fitness program. Visible weight loss is also often applauded by peers and coaches. Here lies the danger. Amongst female athletes, it is not uncommon for periods to go missing with high volumes of training, inadequate fuelling and low body fat percentages. Although initially for an athlete it can seem convenient there is a lack of understanding about the reasons behind losing your period and the consequences. In this episode I chat with Sarah Grove, triathlon coach, triathlete and now mother of 2. In this episode we delve deep into the importance of nutrition, recovery and listening to your body in edurance sports. We look at red signs for overtraining, under fueling, the importance of a well developed, individualised training program that takes into account training history, goals and lifestyle, consistent feedback with your coach and all the lessons Sarah has learned as both an athlete and coach. I also share my personal journey though my triathlon chapter, the lessons I learned and as a Sports Dietitian and IMPORTANT role nutrition plays! 08.01.2022 NEW PODCAST EPISODE ALERT! . When it comes to the treatment of Hypothalamic Amenorrhea many of us wish that there was a magic pill we could take or that there was another reason why our period has gone missing. Lets face it, eating more, cutting out or reducing exercise and for some, needing to gain weight is a scary concept.... Many of my clients have sought alternative treatments hoping for a way to bypass doing the deeper work, working on the root cause. Many of my clients have tried acupuncture, saw naturopaths, gone on liver cleanses, tried to mediate, do more yoga, tried seed cycling, gone all organic or cut out gluten & dairy hoping to maintain their current lifestyle & practices that make them feel safe & in control. I was once here too. They find that alone, they just dont work. In this episode I chat to @angea_acupuncture_yoga , a Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor who specialises in fertility & female endocrinology. Amanda is the founder & director of Angea Acupuncture & Yoga, an integrative Chinese medicine practice. Amandas approach is soul meets science, guiding her patients to ultimate health with a whole body system. Amanda has worked & studied internationally with some of the best fertility experts in both Chinese medicine & yoga. Amanda is author of her book Body Baby Ready, blogger & proud mother of two. Her passion for yoga led her to co-found @mindfulpregnancyogatraining Although we have quite diverse backgrounds in our education & professional practices, we share very similar aims for treatment for HA. We both agree that addressing the root cause of the problem is crucial & that involves supporting the body to feel safe & that energy is available. Lifestyle modifications including food or eating habits & exercise are important to allow the body to heal & a shift in mindset, relationship to self & approach to life is where lies the most deepest & healing work. In this episode we also talk about other common issues or conditions women present with including PCOS, endometriosis, infertility, IVF support & how she helps these women. . 07.01.2022 Would you tell your child they should ONLY eat around half or less than half of their energy requirements? Why? Part of you KNOWS that they need the energy to fuel all their metabolic functions and to thrive!... Then WHY do we expect this of ourselves!? Diet culture our strive for an unrealistic thin ideal and a belief that we are not good enough how we are and that we need to change our body. BOOM weight loss industry!!$$$$$ This is NOT something we need to pass on, is helpful and is something we can stop! Low energy availability not only effects your energy levels for the day. Low energy availability can lead to: - Excessive fatigue - Muscle loss - Frequent illness or injury - Stress fractures - Menstrual dysfunction/ loss of period - Inability to recover and decrease in performance. - Poor Sleep - Irritability - Poor focus and concentration - Loss of libido - Decreased sexual performance (men) ....just to name a few! Just like when your phone or computer is losing power and you switch it to energy saving mode and many functions are turned off or dialed down to conserve energy, your body lacking energy behaves the same! I dont know about you but I know I have one precious life here on earth and I am NOT going to live it on energy saving mode. I am here to live my fullest life and thrive!!! Whos with me!? If you need some support to ditch the diets, reconnect with your appetite, regain trust, overcome fears and learn the principles of intuitive eating so you can THRIVE I would love to help you! 07.01.2022 NEW PODCAST EPISODE! If you have lost your period, are an athlete or are highly active and are on the oral contraceptive pill this is one episode you don’t want to miss! Relative energy deficiency in sport (RED-S) is the result of insufficient energy intake and/or excessive energy expenditure.... In this episode we cover so many important and often misunderstood outcomes of RED-S and its driver - Low energy availability (LEA). We explore its impact on our periods, fertility, digestion, metabolism, heart function, bones, thyroid function, immunity, psychological health and so much more! We go into detail about why the pill does not protect our bones and how you can help an athlete (or an active person!!) to make the changes required to restore optimal bodily function and get them out of energy conservation mode. We talk about the short and long term effects on physical and psychological health as well as performance. This description only touches the surface and is one of my favorite podcasts so far! I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to interview a very highly educated, qualified and experienced sports doctor, endocrinologist and researcher Dr Nicky Keay (@nickykfitness ). Listen now via iTunes or Spotify or download all show notes and links via my website: www.eatingfit.com.au Podcast
07.01.2022 Chats with Nova with a sneaky smile
06.01.2022 I help my clients recover their period AND overcome their poor body image, rigidity, fear and anxiety around food and guide them to trust their body and eat intuitively. They no longer need EXTERNAL rules about what, when and how much to eat. And together we have dig down and identified the roots roots of their disordered eating, dig them out the have and set them free!... Eating disorders are psychological illness and they are not FIXED by symptom control ie weight restoration or recovery of period!!! It’s much more than that and that is where my work really is! I’ve been trained in many therapies and professional training including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Family Based Treatment for Anorexia Nervosa and have been mentored by senior eating disorder specialists. I am more than a dedicated accredited practicing dietitian! I am extremely passionate and dedicated to helping people overcome some challenging times I also went through and felt suck in! Many of my clients on their first discovery call tell about their history of an eating disorder in their younger years, thought they had recovered because they gained weight but STILL DO NOT LOVE and ACCEPT their bodies, they may not yet have a regular periods and they DO NOT trust their body to tell them what, when and how much to eat! Does this sound like you? Sorry this is NOT FULL RECOVERY! There is more on offer for you! Our recovery includes physical health restoration such as recovery of your period (hypothalamic amenorrhea) but ALSO as important is social, psychological and spiritual health! If you know deep down you still have some healing to work through with your fears around food, body image or recovery your period I would love to help you! To learn more about my coaching program and to apply book a free discovery call via link in bio! You are deserving and you are enough!

06.01.2022 Now live! I believe you cannot heal your relationship with food without addressing your relationship with exercise. When it comes to the treatment of disordered eating, eating disorders and Hypothalamic Amenorrhea (the loss of period) addressing one’s relationship with exercise and behaviors cannot be ignored. Often dieting and compulsive exercise are looked at separately but often the drivers of the behaviours share the same beliefs. For example fear of gaining weight and/...or needing a sense of control. Exercise has an endless list of health benefits but sometimes the way we go about it, exercise can be health limiting. In this episode I invite Exercise Physiologist Sarah King (@sarahlizking) to the Podcast to share her personal experience with disordered eating and hypothalamic amenorrhea and how that changed the way she works with her clients now and the role of exercise in recovery. I hope you enjoy! Xx
05.01.2022 Exploding with milk today! Feeding every 3 ish hours and what a relief it is on the boobies! My heart is still melting and this mornings morning family cuddles were pure happiness. No where else I would rather be.
05.01.2022 Today we took home our 5 day old daughter Nova Darby was VERY excited to meet her younger sister! She has been very alert and keeping a close eye on her. 04.01.2022 This little princess has gained 1.3kg since her birth and growing out of her clothes! . Yesterday must have been part of some kind of growth spurt because she was on the boob non stop for 7 hours! . So my nipples have not healed yet... but they hurt less and I have learned so much about breastfeeding and both her and my anatomy!... . I did get some mixed opinions in the beginning in regards to a possible high pallet and tongue tie which was very confusing but now things are looking more positive. Its also been harder during COVID stage 4 restrictions to have face to face appointments. . Firstly ... I have inverted nipples... yes I kind of forgot that. And that is why once I had some damage done it was 1. Hard for them to heal because they go back IN and 2. The initial suck and when she stops/starts it is /was so bloody painful. In the past 2 weeks Ive seen a new lactation consultant through the Maternal Health Clinic (only 15 minute appointments available) and she has not been concerned with her mouth anatomy. She thinks she has a great suck and was very impressed with my milk supply! She helped by going back to basics with nursing positions and provided some tricks to keep us going. She was in her 60-70s so I really appreciate her old school approach! . Currently I am using nipple shells. You wear these in your bra throughout the day, they help to draw out the nipple, dont let the forming scab get STUCK on your breast pads or bra and also collect milk (which I discard or rub in nipples to help heal!. I am now also expressing 1/day for one night feed to 1. Give the nipples a little rest (its a little gentler) 2. Introduce a bottle now as if introduced later we hear it can be harder and having this option is helpful and 3. Lucas loves being able to feed her too. . So tell me what is unique about your anatomy or breastfeeding experience? Do you too have inverted nipples? See more

02.01.2022 These are just a few of the outcomes of seeking profession support to restore your lost period! And here are some consequences of ignoring the problem! 1 Which ones stand out for you? 2 Is there anything you would add?... 3 Can you identify exactly what’s is holding you back? I help women with HA recover their periods, overcome food fear, inappropriate exercise, body dysmorphia and poor body image and help them to eat intuitively. 02.01.2022 NEW PODCAST EPISODE ALERT! . My passion to help women have a healthy relationship with food, exercise and body was not found at university. Nor was my dedication to help women recover their period and fertility.... It was fuelled by my own personal journey, challenges and growth. Many of you may know that when I started out as a dietitian I worked mainly in the area of weight loss. Through my university degree and then stepping straight into private practice I just did what I felt I was trained to do and what my clients were asking for. I didnt know any other way. Although I was busy, making money and doing what I thought was my dream job. It just didnt feel right, nor was it fulfilling. Years down the track when I came across new approaches to health including Healthy At Every Size (HAES) and Intuitive Eating it was a huge pivotal moment in my life personally and professionally. Part of me wished I could unsee it because it brought up a lot of questions and discomfort. In this episode I invite fellow dietitian Bonnie Roney @diet.culture.rebel who helps women find food freedom by ditching diet culture and learning to eat without guilt or shame. Bonnie shares a similar journey with feeling the need to change direction and overcome the guilt, shame and judgement. You can listen now on iTunes or Spotify or visit my website www.eatingfit.com.au/podcast/ for all show notes! . If you enjoy this episode I would greatly appreciate if you could take the time to leave a 5 star rating and review. This will help get this information to women who need it!
02.01.2022 12 weeks with you Novi bear xx You are growing and developing so fast! You have really taught me to appreciate how precious life is and to stay more present.... I am enjoying every second with you from the falling asleep in my arms, the touch of your bare skin, your unique smell that’s more intense after a sleep or if have not held you for a while, the squeeze of your hand around my finger, your heart squeezing smiles, coos, copying my voice, the way your eyes brighten up when you see me and the kick of those strong legs when excited! Love you my princess. Happy 12 weeks
01.01.2022 Instead of focusing on what you dislike about your body, list 3 things you are grateful for! Go!! It’s like having a pair of glasses on that only focuses on an area you dislike, you fail to see all the good your body and life offers. This can be hard for many of us but I am holding you accountable to list 3 things your are grateful for and I would LOVE if one thing includes something about your body! It could be it’s function?... In my 1:1 Coaching Program and Small Group Program I help my clients build their self worth beyond their body size, weight, shape or their exercise / #fitgirl Identity. Dieting only reinforces your over evaluation of weight and shape. The more you diet the more you will obsess about weight, body shape and of course food! Have you learned this yet? Click link in bio to book a free 30 minute discovery call to give me the opportunity to learn more about your biggest struggles with body image and self worth and how I can support you to not feel you need a diet or to lose weight to improve your self worth!!
