25.01.2022 Happy Father's Day!! This Father's Day is difficult for so many of us in lockdown who may be apart from loved ones due to restrictions. My poor Papà is spending his Father's Day in hospital. Only a few weeks ago Dad was told that he'd need to have a quadriple bypass after experiencing some chest pain. We found out on the Friday afternoon and he was in surgery on the Tuesday morning, it was that quick! Towards the end of surgery Dad suffered a stroke which has affected his fro...ntal lobe and parietal lobe, however it was only a few days after surgery that his symptoms became apparent. Whilst we are so grateful that he's still able to talk and walk, he still has a very long journey ahead of him over the next few months on his road to recovery. Due to hospital restrictions we haven't been able to see him. So this year whilst we may be away from our loved ones, I'm so grateful for my family and friends who have been incredibly supportive during this difficult time and checking up on us (virtually) to see how we're managing. 12.01.2022 I'm embarrassed to say that there has been so much going on that I completely missed my first birthday!! (My insurance renewal should have been a dead giveaway) What's tricky is that I actually registered my business in May 2019 and wasn't able to operate until September. Anyone that's started a food business knows what I'm talking about, and if it took you less than 5 months to get up and running I take my hat off to you. The most frustrating thing was that it was all d...ue to external factors, so I really didn't have much of a choice but to wait..... - waiting several weeks to get a meeting with Maribyrnong Council to see if I could operate my business from home (that was a big fat NO!) I envy anyone that's able to operate their food business from home - then spending time finding a commercial kitchen that I could hire and store all of my equipment, stock and packaging - next I had to contact Hobson's Bay Council to have them inspect and register the kitchen I currently use (which took some more time & hoop jumping) In between all of this I needed to re-do my Food Handlers Certificate, which then meant that I could get my Food Safety Supervisor's Certificate which is a requirement for any Class 2 Food Business. All in all I got there in the end and mid September I was on my merry way just in time for my first paid client. 11.01.2022 NEW WEBSITE ALERT!!! Whilst I've had a bit of downtime lately I've been working behind the scenes at changing my website across to a new platform. When I originally built my website last year I had never anticipated to have an online shop. However after receiving so many orders over Easter (lockdown #1) I very quickly realised that it was not sustainable (or very time efficient) to continue taking orders via Instagram, Facebook, text messages, phone calls, emails, DMs an...d then manually imputing all the information into a spreadsheet, then checking that payments had come through into my bank account and updating my spreadsheet again. So in the lead up to Mother's Day I upgraded my web platform and added an e-commerce section to my website. This meant that my customers can browse and shop online, payment would be processed on the spot, then I could download the data directly into my spreadsheet....WIN!! Then when Lockdown #2 happened, things got a little crazy!! Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. I'm sooo grateful for everyone's support during that time (especially when other businesses faced such devastating impacts). I absolutely thrived in the "busy-ness" of it all, and gosh was I glad that I had added an online shop earlier in the year. As the weeks went by I started to notice limitations with the online shop and started to identify the 'wish list' features that I wanted to have. So I decided to make the change to another platform..... which wasn't exactly as easy as I thought. It still doesn't have all the WISH list features that I wanted and I'm sure that I'll continue to change it up as time goes by. But the one thing I'm super excited about is that it automatically calculates the delivery price for you based on the delivery location....how cool is that?!
