19.01.2022 Let’s give it up for EATING! With much attention placed on restricting the amount we eat, the type of foods/nutrients we eat, and the times of day in which we eat - we can lose sight of how important it is to simply EAT. . Eating irregularly can promote the release stress hormones, like adrenaline, & can also cause your blood sugar to drop. The symptoms of low blood sugar can mimic those of stress, such as rapid heartbeat, shaking, nervousness, anxiety, and irritability. ...Eating regularly - 3-5x per day - helps combat these negative effects. . Getting in the habit & mindset of prioritizing eating regularly is something I work on with many of my clients. Once established, then we can begin to incorporate learning how to eat intuitively. For example, in the second photo I decided to order Thai take-out. I wanted a veggie curry, because I intuitively know that the sauce, rich in herbs & spices, will support digestion plus the veggies will only help to improve my psoriasis & overall wellbeing. As I started eating, I had the desire to overeat & stuff myself. I listened to this intuition as well, & ate until I had a food baby! . It can be incredibly scary to trust your body in moments like this - but it’s worth it! I knew - intuitively - that my body was asking me to eat more than usual for a REASON. Maybe I didn’t eat enough before, or will have a decreased appetite later. Maybe my period is coming. Maybe my body is fighting off an illness. The reason almost doesn’t matter - what does matter is trusting your own bodily experiences & needs. . This inability to trust our bodies is especially present in people who have autoimmune diseases, who may be dealing with chronic pain & other negative body messages that they spend an inordinate time trying to ignore. It’s difficult to trust these messages from your body when you’re busy ignoring other ones. . I know it’s scary - but learning to trust your body is a key facet to healing. Remember - your body wants to be healthier, too! . . . #intuitiveeating #integrativenutrition #intuitiveeatingjourney #registereddietitian #autoimmunedisease #psoriasiswarrior #skinconditions #psoriaticarthritis #autoimmune @ Brooklyn, New York See more

18.01.2022 Life as we know it is rapidly shifting due to the rampant spread of COVID-19. With the medical community scrambling to find a medicinal cure and vaccine (Godspeed to them!), for now our best option is to lean into alternative healthcare modalities to help ourselves weather the worst of this storm. . Being a healthcare provider who suffers from an autoimmune disease myself, I spend an exceptional amount of time learning about, researching, and coaching my autoimmune clients on... ways to optimize immune functioning. Over the next few weeks, I will be posting my favorite immune boosting strategies that are low cost, safe, and easy. As we learn more about COVID-19 on the daily, this information is reputable to the best of my knowledge at this time. . All 15 immune boosting strategies are already up on my blog. You can find all my citations to support these evidence-based suggestions there. I’ve also created a free Immune Boosting Grocery List to compliment the blog post. You can access both by clicking the link in my bio! . Stay safe out there, my friends! Keep washing those hands, covering those mouths, and eating yer veggies! . . . #livingwithpsoriasis #immunebooster #autoimmune #immunesystem #immunesupport #immunehealth #strongimmunesystem #immunitysupport #nutritioncoaching #stayhealthystayhome #stayathome @ New York, New York See more

13.01.2022 After working closely with my autoimmune clients, I had a hunch brewing - but I was still shocked to find research confirming my theory that there is a relationship between autoimmune diseases & eating disorders. I was even more surprised to find that not only do eating disorders contribute to the development of autoimmune diseases such as psoriasis, but that the inverse is true as well! The research demonstrates a bidirectional relationship between the two. . The current mai...nstream fad diets for managing autoimmune disease are rife with a seemingly endless list of foods you must avoid in an attempt to reduce your symptoms & feel better. I’m here to tell you that this approach is ENTIRELY UNSAFE, as these fad diets may trigger an eating disorder. Eating disorders are extremely serious medical conditions. They have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. Almost one person dies every hour as a direct result of an eating disorder. . Even elimination diets - where you remove several food groups from your diet at the same time then slowly reintroduce them to try & identify triggering foods - should NEVER be recommended to someone with an autoimmune disease. While food sensitivities are common, a much gentler & gradual approach to identifying them is warranted. . I explore this topic more intimately in my upcoming book, titled Gain Control of Your Psoriasis. Stay tuned . . . . #intuitiveeating #eatingdisorders #autoimmunediseases #autoimmune #autoimmunewarrior #butyoudontlooksick #chronicpainwarrior #psoriasiswarrior #skinconditions #psoriaticarthritis @ New York, New York

11.01.2022 Crying & walking the dog, listening to NYC applaud & cheer our critical healthcare workers. . Tagging everyone I know who is or recently was working in an inpatient hospital or long term care setting. YOU ARE OUR HEROS. Your bravery, hard work, resilience, & dedication are literally keeping us all alive during these frightening times. WE COULD NOT DO IT WITHOUT YOU - which has always been true, but now it is more than ever. THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS (and lungs!)... to our inpatient workers, like: . Dietitians Doctors, attendings & residents Nurses Respiratory therapists Speech language therapists Physical therapists Psychiatrists Diet techs Nurse assistants Cleaning staff Kitchen staff HR staff Management Did I forget anyone?? . No matter what type of work they do, there's no doubt that it is terrifying to head into work. It doesn't matter what job they have that helps keep our hospitals running, it is critical. Also let's not forget those working in nursing homes, assisted living, and long term care where elderly residents are at increased risk. WE LOVE YOU. WE APPLAUD YOU. WE OWE YOU OUR LIVES . . . #healthcareworkers #healthcareheros #frontlineworkers #registereddietitian #thankyouhealthcareworkers #covidkindness #stopthespread #wearamask #flattenthecurve #staythefuckathome See more

03.01.2022 Let’s give a shout out to my main squeeze, vitamin D! Vitamin D and your immune systems are BFFs. The best way to know if you’re vitamin D deficient is to get a blood test done - however unfortunately most of us aren’t making appointments for general physicals or even in-person doctor appointments at this time. If you haven’t done blood work recently, unfortunately it’s difficult to know where your vitamin D levels are at currently. However, vitamin D levels are usually lower... around this time of year since we’ve been covered up all winter & unable to make vitamin D from sunlight hitting our skin. . Personally, since I also don’t currently know my vitamin D levels, I’m taking a baby dose of 400-800 IUs per day when I remember or feel unwell, even though I regularly consume foods high in vitamin D. This one is particularly important for my fellow autoimmune folks, as vitamin D deficiency is commonly found in us. Stay well & safe, friends! . . . #livingwithpsoriasis #immunebooster #autoimmune #immunesystem #immunesupport #immunehealth #strongimmunesystem #immunitysupport #nutritioncoaching #stayhealthystayhome #stayathome #vitaminD @ Brooklyn, New York See more
