24.01.2022 I get this question often and last week I got to answer it twice! Bookkeeping is easy if you don’t know what you’re doing, and it is a lot more complex if you do know what you’re doing. If you are in business; you should have your set of books where you record every transaction you make; one of the main things you would want to keep record of, is money in and money out of the business.... Why? Simply because cashflow monitoring is crucial for business survival. (And that’s only one of the many reasons) Basic Bookkeeping tasks would be to: 1. Keep record of all you receipts for your expenses 2. Pay your bills on time and record the transactions 3. Invoicing your clients/customers 4. Making sure the money hits your account 5. Reconciling your bank accounts (Matching what is on your bank statement to the relevant purchase, sales or expense that the business has incurred) 6. Making sure your accounts balance at the end of each period Then there are more complex Bookkeeping tasks. If you have a bigger business and employ people you will have to: 1. Pay your employees on a predetermined frequency, often weekly, fortnightly and monthly 2. Pay superannuation for your employees 3. Withhold and pay their taxes to the ATO on a monthly or quarterly basis 4. Maintain employees files and ensure the business is compliant 5. Prepare and Lodge your GST return with the ATO on time 6. Managing your debtors 7. Ensuring creditors are paid on time 8. Posting journal entries where necessary 9. Recording of any new asset or a disposal of asset 10. End of year accounts reconciliation to be Tax ready Hoping that I have been able to clarify what Bookkeeping is. DM or call me if you have any questions.

24.01.2022 There are so many new rules and it can be hard to keep up. Both employees and employers need to know their rights and entitlements. If unsure, you can always call Fair Work and get the right answers.

15.01.2022 Cashflow Understanding the inflow and outflow of your cash is vital for business growth. I’ve put together a few basics that help cashflow management.... 1. Keep your records up to date. 2. Monitor your receivables closely; send a formal invoice with a specific time frame for payment to be made and follow up in a polite manner. 3. Pay your bills within the month, when you have huge bills, negotiate a payment plan, you do not want your business credit score to be affected by an aged payable. 4. Keep your personal and business finances separate. You’ll be able to paint a real picture of your financial position at any point if you wish to do so. 5. Build a cushion or make provision; however you would like to call it, you have to have an emergency cash reserve (at bank). You want to remain in a position of strength when an emergency arises, businesses should have between 3 to 12 months worth of expenses set aside. 6. Seek professional advice or hire someone to handle your finances if you are unsure or if you are struggling with record keeping and cashflow management.

14.01.2022 Quick reminder If you employ people and withhold more than $25k per year from your employees’ wages for PAYG, then your instalment activity statement is due for lodgment and payment every month on the 21st. However when the due date falls on a weekend or a public holiday (like this month), you have until the next business day to lodge. ... Avoid late lodgement penalties, lodge on time!

08.01.2022 The past few weeks have been full on for small businesses in Australia and many Bookkeepers and Accountants have gone the extra mile to help their clients stay in business. Changes happen every week! But we make sure we keep on top of everything. Check out the extension date for Jobkeeper payments, the ATO has extended to the 8th of May for the first 2 fortnights.

07.01.2022 PLANNING I used to feel overwhelmed by the amount of things I had to do in one day and thought that I did not have enough time! Until I started calendar planning; allocating time for every single thing I do in a day.... The time I wake up The time I exercise The time I cook The time I do school drop off & pick up The time I work in and on my business The time I take a lunch or tea break The time I read The time I spend with my kids The day and time I do my laundry and clean the house The day and time I go grocery shopping The day and time I REST and do nothing but refresh and recharge It has been a little confronting to see how much time I was wasting doing things that were obviously not productive. By eliminating the unproductive things in my life and my calendar, I was able to feel at peace with my schedule and have accomplished more than I ever thought I could. Plan your 86400 seconds consciously, the time we waste we do not get back. #evolvebooks #accounting #bookkeeping #planning #timemanagement
