10.01.2022 Mail Theft is an emerging issue across Australia strongly linked to Identity Crime. It is driven by the increasing use of the internet by cyber-criminals to com...mit fraud offences. The primary objective of mail thieves is to steal identification documents and personal identification information. These documents can then be used to take over a victims identity, thereby compromising that person for financial gain or other malicious intention. Mail theft is a low risk, high reward crime. Estimates by the Commonwealth Attorney-Generals Department indicate that identity crime costs Australia $1.6 billion each year, with the majority (around $900m) lost by individuals through credit card fraud, identity theft and scams. Mail thieves will generally carry a bag to store mail and tools. They may act suspiciously or nervous around mailboxes or apartment blocks. If you see a person behaving this way, contact Police immediately. Remember to supply Police with a good description of the person including, facial features; what theyre wearing; which direction they left; the time it occurred and any vehicle details including registration. Ensure your letterboxes are secure and have good quality locks with a non-master key. Use quality locking devices that are difficult to tamper with, including barrels that cant be turned easily by inserting a screwdriver or similar. Mail rooms should have key restricted access to prevent unauthorised persons entering. Each mailbox must still have an individual key and the room should be monitored by CCTV.

08.01.2022 Hi Marissa, On the topic of scammers I would like to let the community know about another scam doing the rounds in our local area. It involves scammers adverti...sing on Google Adwords as Locksmiths. They advertise a $45 Locksmith Service to reel in potential customers. For starters these guys are not licensed and most importantly are not trained in the Locksmith trade. It is a scam that was started in the U.S and it has unfortunately made it’s was to Sydney. Once the customer books the job these guys will come out and do whatever it needs to open the door(usually by breaking the lock and/or damaging the door and frame). Unfortunately their motive is to make as much money as possible from people in desperate and emergency situations. That original $45 advertised fee usually ends up over $500 and customers are left with a broken door. What they are doing is illegal, as all Locksmiths in NSW need to have a NSW security License issued by the NSW Police. Unfortunately nothing has been done and these scammers(who are just backpackers) are running free. If ever anyone gets locked out or has lost their keys, always remember to ask the Locksmith to view their ID. The amount of jobs I am attending fixing these scammer’s mess is increasing by the months. Unfortunately Google don’t require any licensing to advertise on Adwords so basically Joe Blow could advertise as any tradesman tomorrow Anyway’s Marissa I just thought i’d give everyone a heads up and also state the importance of using a local and trusted company! Daniel
05.01.2022 Not a bad view from today's office
04.01.2022 Unfortunately these guys have made their way to Sydney and Melbourne. BEWARE there is no such thing as a $45 after hours call out fee. They are using Google Adwords as a platform to advertise as "locksmiths" but they are far from qualified. Unfortunately AdWords isn't regulated in relation to who can advertise as a "qualified locksmith". They are charging customers 7 times the advertised amount when they turn up! Remember in emergency situations use a qualified locksmith. Please watch the video below. https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=qpK9cRlhETQ
