25.01.2022 This is such an important message! Up until very recently clothes were always tailor made. Humans are incredibly diverse in size and shape, we all feel like the square peg trying to fit into the circle hole. The truth is none of us are the wrong shape, the clothes have just been designed not to fit. They've been designed to be refitted, tailored around you. Please remember this next time you're out shopping. Maybe even pop into your local tailor and see what they can do for you.

23.01.2022 Sharing a bit of meal inspo for my vegan fodmappers. Be sure to always check ingredients against the Monash FODMAP app because many of the foods listed in this graphic do become high FODMAP at a specific service size. Those marked with an asterisk are either in quite small amounts of refer to specific brands that I couldn't fit the full name in, see below. Bread brands:... 12.01.2022 As a healthcare professional who works with vulnerable people, it has always been part of my daily practice to ensure precautions are taken to create a safe and clean environment for my clients. To ensure I'm able to keep you as safe as possible through the COVID-19 pandemic I have kept abreast of changing information and competed this course as soon as I could. The course covers topics including: COVID-19 what is it?Signs and symptoms, Keeping safe protecting yourself a...nd others, Myth busting, How to Effectively Use Handwash and Alcohol Based Hand Sanitiser. Proper handwashing: https://youtu.be/3PmVJQUCm4E Proper hand sanitiser (MUST WATCH): https://youtu.be/ZnSjFr6J9HI If you are a care provider or work in a health care centre I'd suggest you too do the (free) course https://covid-19training.com.au And while it is available to the general public I'd ask you guys hold off a few days because it keeps getting jammed due to demand. More than happy to email anyone the PDF reference guide if you'd just like the info. It's the same thing but different layout.

11.01.2022 I'm super excited to be working with Ari at LifeStrong! 06.01.2022 Carrot lox, cream sheese, capers, red onion and fill on a fresh bagel. Deeeelish. If you follow my low fodmap account @plantbasedgutdietitian you would have seen these lox appear in some sushi recently, but it if you don't, here's the recipe: Prepare hours in advance:... - 3 carrots, unpeeled, cut in half - 1 tsp iodised salt - 3/4c hot water - 1 tsp Nori or dulse flakes - 2 tbsp brine from a jar of capers - 2 tbsp rice wine vinegar - 1 tbsp miso - 3 tbsp salt reduced soy sauce - 1 tsp lemon juice - 1 tsp liquid smoke - 1 tbsp garlic infused olive oil - 2 tbsp regular olive oil 1) boil carrots with water and salt until tender but still holding shape 2) meanwhile, mix all other ingredients into a marinade 3) Once cooked thinly slice carrots lengthways and place in marinade for a few hours or better still, overnight. #vegan #whatveganseat #veganfoodshare #bagel @abesbagels @buteislandfoods #carrotlox #vegansmokedsalmon #breakfast #veganbreakfast #veggiesforbreakfast #dietitian #vegandietitian #melbournedietitian #plantbased #plantbaseddietitian #plantbaseddiet #nutrition

05.01.2022 Here's some great news among all the bad news! Medicare has finally expanded funding to include telehealth for allied health providers and access is universally available to all people with chronic illnesses! That means, if you currently meet the criteria for a chronic disease management plan, i.e. you have a chronic medical condition defined as: "A condition that has been (or is likely to be) present for six months or longer, for example, asthma, cancer, heart disease, diab...etes, arthritis and stroke. There is no list of eligible conditions." You can have a telehealth appointment with your GP and request a Chronic Disease Management Plan and Team Care arrangements for up to 5 sessions with an allied health provider, if you want to see me, that would be for a dietitian. You are entitled to 5 sessions per calendar year and unfortunately you can only use those 5 sessions across all allied health (except psychology), so if you want to see a dietitian and a physio you need to split the 5 up in whatever way you choose. Then I can see you through the medicare system! Right now appointments are always bulk billed! Which means there is no out of pocket cost to you, however this is likely to be limited time only. I've used these plans to help people through irritable bowel syndrome, persistent iron deficiency anemia, Hyperemesis gravidarum, all the conditions listed above, and many more. If you have a dietary issue that you've needed sorted, there is no better time than right now. Stay home, stay safe, and get the help you need!

05.01.2022 I did a post on my other page sharing the collective experiences of my IBS patients who are choosing to FODMAP during lockdown. Their advice is that there's no time like the present. In other news, DAA have been campaigning hard and private health insurers have now also jumped on board with expanding their coverage to telehealth in the vast majority of circumstances, so both PHI and medicare rebates are available :)

04.01.2022 I understand these are some scary times and we need to be cautious. While my clinic has put in place measures to improve sanitation and are planning on staying open for as long as possible, I also want to remind you that I offer telehealth services. If you are staying inside and have a phone/laptop this could be a great option for you. Last week the Australian government announced expansions to the medicare program which allows GPs and Psychologists to reba...te telehealth services for at-risk individuals, unfortunately they did not listen to advocacy from dietitians and have not included us in their plan which means medicare rebates will not be available for telehealth services. Private health insurers vary on whether or not they will rebate online services, I'd advise you to get in contact with your insurer personally. If you currently have a face-to-face appointment with me that you'd prefer to change to telehealth please get in contact with the clinic you booked through and this can be arranged. I'm here for all your intuitive eating, vegan pregnancy, infant nutrition, vitamin/mineral, IBS and chronic health condition needs. #lowfodmap #lowfodmapvegan #dietitian #dietadvice #telehealth #ebnutrition #veganpregnancy #vegankids #covid #coronavirus #selfisolation #vegan #nutrition #ibsvegan #irritablebowelsyndrome #veganspoonies #plantbasednutrition #intuitiveeating #whatveganseat #veganbabies #anemia #irondeficiency #veganfoodshare #veganchildren #selfcare #malnutrition #vegandietitian #fodmap #ibs #melbournedietitian See more

04.01.2022 Those who have followed me on Facebook for a long time would have seen an uglier version of this posted long ago but thanks to the wonderful @theplantpotential it's been remastered to a prettier and more user-friendly insta-bite. All tofu is good tofu but you can get way more of your calcium requirements met by choosing one set in calcium. They are more difficult to find in Australian supermarkets though. If you have an Asian grocer anywhere on your route check them out. They have a much larger range of tofu and are usually calcium set. #calcium #veganhealth #vegannutritionist #vegandietitian #osteoporosis #osteopenia #bonehealth #veganfitness #veganstrong #tofu #plantbasedprotein #plantbaseddietitian #plantbased #strongbones #donthaveacow #nutritionfacts #nutrition #dietadvice #lactosefree #nondairy #asiangrocery #melbournedietitian

03.01.2022 Researchers from Uppsala University followed 79,000 people in a 20-year study which looked at the link between body mass index (BMI), adherence to a Mediterranean-style diet, and risk of death. It turned out that of those who followed the Mediterranean-style diet, people who were in the "overweight" category had the lowest risk of dying. And those in the "obese" category did not have a significantly higher risk of death compared to those regarded as having a "normal" BMI.... But people in the "normal" weight category who didn't stick to the Mediterranean diet had a higher risk of death than people in any weight category who did follow the diet.
