21.01.2022 Acai Smoothie Bowl with Crunchy Choc Muesli I love a smoothie bowl for a cool breakfast, especially on these hot summer mornings how popular have they become over the years!?! Unfortunately some I see can be super high in sugar and contain very little protein. In other words they aren’t a balanced meal. Once in a while as a treat sure! But on a regular basis this type of breakfast can lead to nutritional deficiencies, and hormonal imbalances. This smoothie bowl has prot...ein, nourishing fats, and complex carbohydrates (in the gluten free muesli on top) - everything to keep you fuller for longer and energised, without a crazy blood sugar spike. Complex carbs take longer to break down (compared to simple carbohydrates which are absorbed quickly) and due to their high fibre content, they are used for more long lasting energy, and therefore generally not stored so easily (unless you overeat them). They are also a great source of B vitamins and minerals Recipe on the blog now https://ebonyjadehealth.com//acai-smoothie-bowl-with-crun/ #acailbowl #balancedmeal #hormonebalance #womenshealth #ebonyjadehealth #recipe #glutenfree #breakfast #smoothiebowl
18.01.2022 NEW RECIPE GINGERBREAD OVERNIGHT OATS with STEWED APPLES Ok the festive recipes have started & this is a super simple one! In winter I love to eat porridge most mornings, but the weather has been muggy on the Gold Coast early lately and I’m wanting a cooler breakfast. So I'm swapping the warm porridge for cool overnight oats or sometimes I’ll substitute for quinoa flakes for a gluten free option. I like to try different flavour variations and in this one I've includ...ed stewed apples. So happy with how it turned out View the recipe here: https://ebonyjadehealth.com//gingerbread-overnight-oats-w/ HEALTHY FACTS. Did you know that apples are rich in polyphenols which have anti-inflammatory actions and their high in antioxidants which can protect us against oxidative stress. Apples are also one of the highest source of pectins, which means when you eat them they can feed particular bacteria within our microbiome. So if you are wanting to support and restore your gut health - apples are a great choice! Beau & I made some healthy gingerbread cookies today too, the smell in the house when they were cooking Let me know if you would like me to post that recipe on the blog too? #overnightoats #gingerbread #recipe #stewedapples #guthealth #breakfast #healthy
18.01.2022 When you ask to have your thyroid tested and it comes back 'normal', but you read symptoms of an underactive thyroid and they really resonate with you - it can be really confusing This can be because the thyroid hormones likely haven't been tested. Thyroid stimulating hormone, referred to as TSH, is a pituitary hormone, not a thyroid hormone. So testing TSH alone does not provide a true picture of what is going on with your thyroid. If you are showing signs and symptoms of...: - unexplained weight gain - chronic stress - cold hands/feet (or you notice you are cold and others around you are not) - constipation, dry skin, brittle hair - oestrogen dominance symptoms such as heavy periods, clotting, painful periods, headaches - salt cravings - your retaining fluid - hair loss - difficulties conceiving - you've had your gallbladder removed - nutritional deficiencies - your TSH results are skewed to either end of the 'normal range' Investigating your thyroid further by completing a basic panel which will include fT4, T4, fT3, T3, rT3, TSH, TPO & TAA will give you and your health practitioner a better insight as to what’s going on. Let me know if you found this helpful and would like to know some natural ways to support your thyroid? #thyroid #hashimotos #hormonebalance #hypothyroidism #hyperthyroidism #gravesdisease #ebonyjadehealth
17.01.2022 One of the ways I help my clients balance their hormones is to help them find a love for foods that will nourish their body, especially veggies! I often see my new clients have fallen into a bit of a rut with veggies and sticking with the same 4 5, and steaming/boiling with a bit of S&P- which can taste pretty bland! What’s missing is the flavour, texture and colour! A salad can be really boring if it’s just iceberg lettuce, tomato and cheese. But if instead you choose a ba...se of herbs which not only brings the flavour but health benefits such as supporting detoxification of heavy metals and improve your gut health to keep bad gut bugs away, plus adding some greens such as rocket/spinach/kale, with roast/baked vegetables (cooked in olive oil, spices and salt), with some crunch from pepita/sunflower seeds, and a beautiful creamy dressing, and served with your choice of protein that is one deliciously nourishing packed salad! So let me know if you would like the recipe for my Roast Vegetable Salad with Creamy Dressing? I know my previous food post was a salad, but the weather is warming up, and can we ever really have enough different combos #recipe #roastvegetablesalald #healthy #hormononebalance #nourishing #ebonyjadehealth
13.01.2022 Vegetable Fritter Stack w/ Beetroot Hummus I posted about my failed attempts in the past trying to make my fritters stay together and needing to use so much oil because I didn't have the right cookware I've recently invested in some new non-toxic cookware and happy I did - look how they turned out These fritters are packed with flavour, nourishing fats, fibre and nutrients and are pretty easy to make too. ... Let me know if you would like me to post this delicious new recipe?? . . . #ebonyjadehealth #fritters #healthyrecipe #glutenfree #dairyfree #hormonalhealth #nutritionist
13.01.2022 Stomach fat that doesn't seem to shift no matter how well you eat or exercise, sleeplessness, a tendency to have a short fuse, and struggling to relax - are symptoms of polycystic ovarian syndrome that are not often talked about. PCOS is a condition that only affects women, and in Australia it's the leading cause of infertility. As this condition is so individualised (do not google you will be flooded with mixed advice ) you need to consult with a health professional to de...termine best treatment for you specifically. So how do I help women manage this condition? You can treat PCOS naturally using evidence based medicine, but first you need a correct diagnosis, and then you need to determine what is the root cause that is driving your PCOS, as it can really vary from woman to woman. I've also covered this in a lot more detail on my latest blog post - link in my profile Tag a friend who you think might be interested in this #PCOS #Fertility #WomensHealth #polycysticovariansyndrome #hormonebalance #EbonyJadeHealth #nutrition #nutritionist https://ebonyjadehealth.com//natural-treatment-for-polycy/
09.01.2022 Caesar Salad & a deliciously creamy dressing Loving our warmer weather which has me wanting cooling foods & meals that are quick and easy to prep like this one. When eating to support your hormones, it doesn’t have to mean you go without the foods you love, but instead look at how you can make some healthy swaps. Avoiding buying processed dressings is a good place to start, like a typical store bought caesar salad dressing which can often contain vegetable oils such as... sunflower oil, soybean or canola. These oils are highly refined, and highly unstable which means when they are exposed to chemicals in the refining process, they're stripped of their antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Instead of using those oils opt for olive oil, macadamia oil, avocado oil, coconut oil, ghee or grass fed organic butter. These fats also have higher smoke points and ideal when cooking food at higher temperatures. Oils that have passed their smoke point are likely to contain oxidised fats, which can contribute to inflammation. The Caesar Salad and it’s deliciously creamy dressing is up on the blog now https://ebonyjadehealth.com/recipes/caesar-salad/ #happyhormones #healthy #pcos #gutfriendly #mealprep #recipe #caesarsalad #salad #dressing #nutritionist #ebonyjadehealth
07.01.2022 This past week we’ve had the grandparents visiting from Tassie. As soon as they announced the borders were opening, Mum jumped on the first flight out It was the first time seeing them since January. We’ve had Facetime and so grateful for that, but seeing them in person was so emotional. A lot of that for me was the uncertainty of thinking when we’d be able to see each other again (like I’m sure so many are feeling across the world ). They left to go home this morning an...d I was a bit teary and Beau did the sweetest thing. He gave me a big hug and said ‘don’t worry Mama, Sister will be here soon’. He calls my sister ‘sister’. And she’s planning a trip to visit soon too. I burst into tears how do they know just what to say, and with so much empathy at 2.5?? After last weeks schmozzle with my accounts that disappeared & the departure of NanNan & PopPop, some & a beach dip was just what I needed to reset for a new week
06.01.2022 When you just want one sweet photo together....with this crazy kiddo it ain’t easy Beau has a big personality & high energy - if he’s not talking my ears off, he’s asking me to do a running race Our weekends are planned with activities & adventures to wear his big energy out I was talking to some friends recently and they said their boys can be non-stop from dusk til dawn too. 04.01.2022 Ride, park, beach that’s what usually goes down on our family Sundays. Bit too windy for the beach today but we managed the other two. It’s quite the workout with the winds up & pushing a 15kg+ toddler Tomorrow...I have an exciting announcement for you it’s a project I’ve been working on with some major health & wellness brands! 02.01.2022 Stone fruit season is another reason I love this time of year Cherries, mangoes, & peaches are some of my favourites I’m keen to hear - if you could choose just one fruit to eat - what would be your pick? When talking to clients I often hear they feel stuck making the same recipes, and salads year after year. So I help them to change it up & take advantage of what’s in season & try some new flavour combos. I think that’s how some of us can get bored of nutritious eati...ng & end up relying on fast food too much. We don’t change it up enough. You could try adding some fruit in a salad for pops of flavour, or even better - pair fruit with fresh herbs. Herbs are so much more than just a garnish, they can really add incredible flavour, as well as their healing benefits & nutritional profile. NEW RECIPE Grilled Prawns, Peach & Goats Cheese Salad - it’s on the blog now. If you want dairy free swap the goats cheese for avocado. And any protein of choice can work too https://ebonyjadehealth.com//grilled-prawn-peach-goats-ch/ #Recipe #EbonyJadeHealth #Summer #Salad #Nutritionist #WomensHealth
01.01.2022 Want to know what to eat when you have hormonal imbalances such as PCOS? Or are you wanting to support your fertility for pregnancy? Read on While salmon is rich in omega 3 fatty acids which support healthy brain function, they are also supportive in treatment for women with hormonal imbalances such as PCOS as they are anti-inflammatory, and also for egg implantation if you are wanting to fall pregnant. ... I love baked salmon topped with this pesto. It’s so delish!! In fairness, pesto goes with pretty much everything, I also love having it over some roast veggies You can make it in advance and store in the fridge, which can be a big time saver for quickly adding some amazing flavour to your meals While traditional pesto uses parmesan, I've used nutritional yeast for a dairy free option in this recipe. recipe is on the blog now https://ebonyjadehealth.com//baked-salmon-with-basil-thym/ #salmon #pesto #recipe #omega3fishoil #hormones #PCOS #fertility #pregnancy #womenshealth #ebonyjadehealth
