23.01.2022 WHY RAINBOW VEG?? Antioxidant nutrients (found in foods) can scavenge or deactivate reactive free radicals and repair oxidant-induced injury. Diseases such as atherosclerosis, carcinogenesis, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, ulcers, sunburn, cataracts, and aging have all been linked to cellular damaged caused by free radicals and oxidative stress. Eating a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables can help protect you from disease.... This is why I promote eating a rainbow to my clients, and include EVERY COLOUR, EVERY DAY as a key concept in my MEAL PLANS. Here is a list of just one antioxidant nutrient found in each colour, and it's health benefits: YELLOW- Carotenoids- carotenoids can be converted into vitamin A within the body and are beneficial for immune, eye and skin health. GREEN- Chlorophyll- chlorophyll is the green pigment found in dark leafy green vegetables. It alkalises and detoxifies the body, it is a blood builder, great for skin healing and dark leafy greens usually contain a fantastic complex of essential minerals such as magnesium, iron, zinc, calcium, potassium and manganese. PURPLE- Anthocyanins- cardiovascular disease, neurological conditions, memory, cognition, mood and exercise recovery. WHITE- Allicin- Fresh garlic contains an amino acid called alliin. When the garlic clove is crushed or chopped, it releases an enzyme known as alliinase. The interaction between alliin and alliinase brings about the formation of allicin, which is considered the major biologically active component of garlic. The potency of this ingredient is only short-lived, therefore I always recommend eating freshly crushed garlic cloves. RED- Lycopene is found in red fruit and vegetables. It is beneficial for heart health, prostate health, osteoporosis, eye and brain health.
23.01.2022 It was great to catch up with Tanya in my lunch break today selling her bee-autiful Beetanicals made from beeswax and Australian native essential oils. They are lovely gentle, nourishing, 100% natural balms designed for infants, children, pregnancy and everyday use. I bought the Bee Well Balm chest rub to help relieve congested coughs and sinuses, to keep the winter blues away. I was also lucky enough to grab a Manuka Honey ball made by Bec at Healthy Impulse on my way out! What amazing business women we have locally!!
20.01.2022 Tonight’s veggies were inspired by a Caprese Salad I ate on Capri Island in Italy. Italian food is traditionally simple, fresh and organic #takemeback

16.01.2022 Meet another member of staff, Naturopath, meet Ebony Jordan: - How long have you worked at Des Lardner’s Organic? Since 2015. I worked in the health food store... during school holidays and on weekends while I studied my Bachelor Degree in Naturopathy in Melbourne. In 2016 I trained up as a sleep apnoea consultant, and in 2017 I graduated and began practicing as a Naturopath. - What attracted you to work in the natural health industry? I've always had an interest in natural health and wellness, as I've suffered from my own autoimmune condition since the age of five. Having this condition I've experienced from a very young age the impact that diet and lifestyle choices can have on all aspects of health. - The person who most inspires you at work? I admire the mind, passion, drive and intellect of Carla Wrenn. She is a driven Australian Naturopath who specializes in integrative oncology, autoimmune disease, functional medicine and complex conditions. She is a well known and respected leader and mentor in the Natural Health industry. I have had the pleasure of meeting her and talking to her at seminars, Naturopathic events and attended her workshops. - Flashback to when you were 10 years old what do you want to be when you grow up? I probably wanted to be a horse trainer, jockey or Spice Girl. - The one thing people may not know about me is... My image is painted on the Rupanyup Silo Art. - My go to when feeling unwell is... Echinacea is my favourite herb for anything immune-related. Colds, flus, runny noses and sinus congestion. It works really fast, I take it at the first sign of a cold and feel better in no-time! #naturalhealth #horsham#organic#lookforthegreenleaf #naturalhealth#carlawrenn#echinacea#horsham#organic #siloarttrailwimmera #lookforthegreenleaf

07.01.2022 New Features to my upcoming Meal Plan!!
06.01.2022 Today I'm learning all about Pyrroles (a condition of zinc & vitamin B6 deficiency), Histamine (allergies, hypersensitivity and inflammation), Neurotransmitters (brain and mood chemicals) and Methylation at the BioCeuticals NutraCeuticals seminar.
05.01.2022 On Monday I attended the Metagenics Seminar on ‘Resolving Chronic Inflammation’ and caught up with my Naturopath pal Phillip Chua - Naturopath & Herbalist. 1 out of 8 people live with Chronic Pain in Australia. This pain interferes with quality of life, and restricts the ability to carry out daily tasks. Current pharmaceutical medications have a bandaid effect, and aim to cut off or inihibit pain pathways, however low grade systemic inflammation continues to damage the body ...leading to further complications. On Monday we discovered new ingredients and protocols that have shown to ‘resolve’ chronic inflammation and reduce symptoms within 4-8 weeks! If you’d like to learn more about what natural medicine can do for you or your family, contact me at Des Lardner's Organic Natural Health Clinic.
03.01.2022 Finalising the 'Healthy Impulse 2.0' shopping list for our first round of Initial Consultations tomorrow, while I wait for the Bioceuticals Pyrroles, Histamine and Methylation seminar to start.
