24.01.2022 We know #depression is a major problem among older adults. It is estimated that between 10 and 15% of people aged 55 years and over experience symptoms of depression and this is often associated with chronic physical illness like arthritis, chronic pain and heart disease. In a world-first study, a team of researchers from the #eCentreClinic worked with researchers from the University of Sydney to investigate using internet-delivered cognitive behaviour therapy (iCBT) to preve...nt depression in older adults with two or more chronic illnesses. Study participants completed the eight-week Wellbeing Plus Course, which was developed by the eCentreClinic and is freely available through MindSpot Clinic: https://mindspot.org.au/wellbeing-plus-course By the end of the treatment and at the six-month follow-up, the Wellbeing Plus Course was found to be effective in preventing depression among participants. This research is important because it shows the potential of iCBT to become a valuable tool for maintaining #wellbeing in older adults with chronic physical illness.

17.01.2022 People with spinal cord injury commonly experience depression and anxiety as well as pain. They can find it difficult to access treatment due to mobility issues, long treatment waiting lists or stigma. In a recent study, researchers from the eCentreClinic in partnership with the University of Regina in Canada, investigated the effectiveness and acceptability of internet-delivered cognitive behavioural therapy (ICBT) for the overall wellbeing of people with spinal cord injury.... Twenty Canadian participants with spinal cord injury completed the Chronic Conditions Course, an eight-week ICBT program developed by the eCentreClinic. The participants experienced significant improvements in levels of anxiety and depression as well as in other areas including ability to participate, independence, resilience, positive affect, self-efficacy and grief. The study Guided internet-delivered cognitive-behaviour therapy for persons with spinal cord injury: a feasibility trial was recently published in the journal Spinal Cord. #emotionallyresilientworld
