17.01.2022 The year of 2011 represents one of those moments in life where I, and many close to me, had life as we knew it, ripped out from under our feet. I came home from... work to a phone call saying that one of my and my familys dearest and lifelong friends had taken his own life. I remember breaking the news to my mother, and hearing her wail like you would never want to hear your mother wail. I remember ringing my dad in a panic, and without meaning to just blurting out the news to him, while he was driving home from work. I remember going to the shop and buying a six-pack of beers, and drinking all six in about ten minutes because I had no idea what else to do with myself. El Roy was one of the most beautiful people you could meet. His laugh, all his shenanigans, and just the energy he carried with him was/is irreplaceable. I dont think there was a person who met him, who didnt instantly have a spot for him in their hearts. After this, the road that grief and anger took me on was one I could never have seen myself taking, prior to his death. A once ignorant, happy-go-lucky guy who took life care-free and easy, had now turned to heavy drinking, isolation, and turning my back on a lot of things I had stood firm for my whole life. Two years later I was driving home from work, and I dont know what it was that triggered it, but as I came around a big sweeping bend in the road, I just broke down. I lost it! I was paralyzed by the grief, anger, unanswered questions, and left with a wanting to return to how it used to be. I wanted El Roy back, and to go back to laughing and carrying on. Like it used to be. Once I gathered myself and drove home, I went straight to my room, sat down on my bed and amidst balling my eyes out, I wrote El Roy. Weve been fortunate enough as a band to play some awesome gigs in the last 2-3 years and El Roy has become a must on the set list, coming down to two main reasons. One, because honest is what I want to be as an artist. I write songs in the hope that they can help people in the same way that so many songs have helped me over the years. And two, because for all the fast, up beat, and full band tracks in our sets, El Roy is often the song that people seem to connect with most, as we all have our own demons and battles going on. We all loose sleep over something. We all just want a break from our own mind sometimes. We all remember the person we were before life kicked the hell out of us. And we all have days where it feels like we have the weight of the world on our shoulders. Now days this song represents the ongoing missing of a dear friend, but Ive also come to realize over the last year or so, that it also represents part of me grieving the loss of myself (as silly as that may sound). The loss of the man I once was. The ignorant, happy-go-lucky guy back when life seemed to be all roses.. Now it takes hard work, and a constant decision to see that light, which was once so clear. If youre out there battling away with life and your situation, please know youre not alone. I wish El Roy couldve seen the number of people who loved him, and were in his corner, right there behind and beside him. Although you might not be able to see them through the darkness there are people behind and beside you too. People who are standing in your corner and fighting hammer and tong for you. There are so many awesome resources out there, from private counseling services, to help lines like beyondblue, Lifeline, ReachOut.com Australia, Headspace, Kids Helpline Official, Mens Health. So if life is kicking your ars, then please talk to someone you feel safe with, or call a help line, and open yourself up to getting better. There isnt anything cool or tough about keeping your shit to yourself, and beating yourself up with it. Its taken me five and a half years to learn that lesson, and its only now, that after putting my hand up and saying Yep Im not alright and talking to someone about it, that I can proudly stand up and say Im a working progress. 08.01.2022 Just letting everybody know that Echidna Studio is officially open for business. With the current restrictions this means we can only be open as a place of work for professionals/working musicians/clients and that all social distancing measures and regulations must be taken in to account. We will also be sterilising all surfaces between any days work, door handles etc. and providing adequate ventilation. Clients are encouraged to wear gloves and a mask if practical. So if you need to get your promotional material or album organized for after everything opens up or need to rehearse in a spacious and safe environment, do a live stream or video please get in touch. 08.01.2022 This is a great energetic track, had a lot of fun working with Juanito and the rest of the Pirateska Rebellion band putting down bass guitar and drums, some guitar and a bit of everything. More overdubs elsewhere. Bastian Herrera from Santiago, Chile has done a great job mixing and mastering this track.

06.01.2022 Finally got around to re skinning this old Rogers drum kit. It"s the real McCoy from the 60s and to think that some folks used to put these down and now they are sort after. After putting the new skins on the kick I couldnt believe the sound, even with no damping its unreal, its got the magic frequency.
