Our hope is to create a space where you can read engaging content about what matters to you. The first post is live now, so check it out below and remember to let us know what you want to see!

24.01.2022 Karen and Kelly and all the Emergency Services Team interpreting through Expressions Australia for the Covid-19 updates are doing such an incredible job. Well done all #equalaccessforall #auslan #interpreting

24.01.2022 Wow discrimination right here. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=348953216017794

23.01.2022 Happy Monday! To kick the week off we will be introducing you to some of our interpreters.

23.01.2022 Such a great story on the Project. There is such a supply and demand issue within the interpreting community and it is great that the general public can view interpreting as a viable professional career option. It is an amazing career and I would highly recommend it. For anyone interested Melbourne Polytechnic has a 2 year language acquisition course and then RMIT has the Diploma of Interpreting course to gain your professional NAATI (National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters) #Auslan

22.01.2022 We are excited to launch the Hello, my name is campaign today where we are inviting Australians to sign their name in Auslan, Australian Sign Language. The cam...paign is raising awareness about this uniquely Australian language and the people that use it during National Week of Deaf People (19 25 September). We believe that now more than ever, we need to establish a feeling of inclusivity during this difficult time when members of the deaf and hard of hearing community are experiencing significant and acute isolation and loneliness. Whether you are fluent in Auslan or just starting out, Auslan is for everyone. In the lead up to the week, we will be releasing news of the amazing support we are receiving from Ministers, MPs, and media identities. We are releasing information now, so you have time to practice and then create your message to share during the National Week of Deaf People. Find out more at deafchildren.org.au/hellomynameis

Thank you to all our fabulous clients, interpreters and colleagues for all your support and incredible work throughout the challenging year that was 2020. Wishing you and your families a safe and happy festive season and a prosperous New Year. Keep safe. Happy Holidays

15.01.2022 This is my beautiful friend and colleague Kellie. She so beautifully described below what we all do (well variations of) on a daily basis. Kel failed to fully mention that while excelling in her 20+ years career she also gave birth to 5 amazing children that literally almost killed her with each pregnancy. Maintained a healthy marriage and her faith, and is a bellydancing goddess, all while being one of the most empathetic professionals I have the pleasure of working with. We... love you Kel, thanks for letting me share your story. Kellie's original post :- You know what I love? My job! If you don’t know already, I am a professional Auslan Interpreter and have been working in the Deaf community for over 20 years now. It’s taken me to all kinds of places around the country and the world. It’s put me onto stages, and screens, and under spotlights. Into psych wards, operating theatres, laboratories, police stations, military bases, Caribbean jungles and African border crossings. I’ve interpreted at births and weddings and funerals. I’ve had false teeth thrown at me, been sworn at, spat on, physically threatened, had wardrobe malfunctions on camera, had birds peck me while I work, had hilarious slips of the tongue, gotten filthy, endured the most boring lectures on earth, dealt with discrimination and cried. I’ve had heartbreaking moments telling people: ‘You’re fired’, ‘You have cancer’, ‘I’m sorry, your father didn’t make it’, or ‘You are under arrest’. I’ve also been right in the crux of joyous moments and laughed and done fist pumps and high fives and cried happy tears. I’ve been the one to say: ‘It’s a girl!’, ‘You got the job!’, ‘You’ve passed!’, ‘Your results are all clear’, ‘You won!’, ‘I hereby pronounce you man and wife’ and ‘You are free to go’. It’s such an incredible privilege to be in these sacred moments in people’s lives. Interpreting is a role that can be complex, and demanding and intimate and so often... incredibly rewarding. I’ve made lifelong friends within the Deaf community and the interpreting profession. It’s a job that has been flexible and accomodating to each stage of my life, having babies and juggling a family. I’ve been stretched and challenged and tried, and so I have learnt and grown and BECOME. Not everyone gets paid to do something they love. But I do, and I’m so grateful. #givethanks

15.01.2022 Booking an interpreter or notetaker is quick and easy with Echo. Heres a little crash course!

11.01.2022 Dear FB friends My ex employee "Sharleen Henderson" pleaded guilty and was sentenced yesterday to 6 months in prison and a 2 year Community Corrections Order. Thank you to all who have supported me personally and Echo Interpreting over the last 18 months whilst dealing with this fraud and theft. I cannot thank Airlie, Megan, Sarah, Emily and Judd enough for all their assistance trawling through documents, gathering evidence, cleansing the office and being such fabulous suppo...rts. Echo is bigger and better because of the amazing friends, family and support from the Deaf and interpreting community. Thank you all for putting your faith in us. *A reporter that was present during the hearing wrote this attached story. I did not give an interview and information from this was taken from the court evidence. You have to be a subscriber to read the full story or DM me if you want a copy. https://www.heraldsun.com.au//b66e8e75d520c8ce2783de32c5e3

10.01.2022 During this difficult time, we are committed to ensuring the safety of our community, interpreters and staff. We will continue providing services to the Deaf community, using Video Relay Interpreting where possible. In essential circumstances, in-person interpreting can be organised, but this will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. We want to extend our best wishes to the Deaf and Interpreting community and urge everyone to stay safe in these trying times.

10.01.2022 The incredible interpreter Daniel made a language choice today that was captured and highlighted as summing up how we are all feeling about Covid-19. Whilst this is construed by many as funny, and rightly so, it is also important to remember that this is a professional interpreter doing a professional job and providing language access to many in our community. Sure, have a giggle, find some humour in these challenging times, we all need some light hearted relief, but please also take a minute to educate yourself about Auslan as a language, and respect the amazing work all the interpreters are doing through this time. stay safe all.

10.01.2022 Heres the June 2020 edition of our Parliament news bulletin in Auslan, presented by Tayla Percy.

09.01.2022 The Auslan interpreting profession offers interpreters freedom and flexibility, but what do they really value about their work?

09.01.2022 So proud of Emily our Executive Assistant for learning how to say "Hello my name is...." as part of Deaf Children Australia campaign.

09.01.2022 Thankyou to Sunrise for showing some love to Victoria, and Leisa for the shoutout on behalf of Echo Interpreting this morning. We are so grateful for our fabulous office staff and all the interpreters that are working so hard via Video Remote Interpreting platforms to ensure equal access is still provided to the Deaf Community through these difficult lockdown times. #auslaninterpreting #sunrise #echointerpreting

08.01.2022 This week, we chat with our in-house interpreter, Marc Ethan, about why he loves his job so much and the variety that he experiences on a daily basis. Have a read below!

08.01.2022 Echo Interpreting Virtual Wine and Cheese night It isnt fresh news that these are challenging times and this may be taking its toll on each individual in their own way. Whilst this is completely understandable, we here at Echo think it is important, and now more so than ever, to stay connected with one another and come together to enjoy something positive amongst all that is going on. But how do we come together during these current times? I am glad you asked.... On Tuesday the 7th of April Echo will be hosting a wine and cheese night starting at 8pm which you can attend from the comfort of your own living room. Wine and cheese not your thing? Not a problem, the main purpose is to give people the opportunity to touch base with one another as we are all missing the normality of being able to socialise. Please check your email for an invite which contains the meeting ID for Zoom should you wish to join. As always, the Echo family wish you and your own families and loved ones the best during this time.

08.01.2022 For all Interpreters. Please continue to wear a mask but if not appropriate for communication with Deaf clients this is from DHHS.

07.01.2022 This week weve taken a look at some early pioneers who helped develop Auslan. These people established the schools, clubs and institutes that allowed the Deaf community to grow and flourish. Have a read below and send us a message with anything youd like to see in this blog!

07.01.2022 I would just like to acknowledge and thank the incredible team we have here at Echo!! We also would like to welcome Shell who will be assisting in the all... important claims processing and soon Echo will welcome a new "Booking Administration Officer" Adam, to lighten the load a little for our very hardworking and dedicated team. Thank you to all the Interpreters and Notetakers who have been so patient, flexible and accommodating with the monumental amount of changes we have all endured in the recent month. We really value you all and thank you for what you do Thanks Team

05.01.2022 Echo Interpreting would like to reach out to all members of the Deaf Community. If there is any written or online material in regards to Covid-19 (Coronavirus) that you are not understanding please email us at [email protected] and we will interpret this into Auslan for you free of charge. Echo Interpreting is committed to providing equal access. Wherever possible we will be utilising Video Relay Interpreting rather than face to face interpreting to minimise exposure. We are also aware that during this time many Deaf people have hearing friends, relatives and loved ones that they may be concerned about and wish to contact. Echo Interpreting can also provide an interpreted phone call option for you to contact family and friends. Please contact the echo office to arrange this.

05.01.2022 Echo Interpreting was saddened to hear of the loss of Leonie Jackson and would like to send our condolences to friends, family and the Deaf community at this sad time.

02.01.2022 Deaf people deserve the chance to participate in all aspects of society, and by putting an Auslan interpreter onstage at speaking events, organisers can give them that opportunity.

02.01.2022 Echo Interpreting would like to acknowledge the Deaf community during National Week of Deaf People and thank you for the honour of allowing us into your lives.Echo Interpreting would like to acknowledge the Deaf community during National Week of Deaf People and thank you for the honour of allowing us into your lives.

02.01.2022 We are expanding our services and are seeking Deaf Interpreters and Auslan Interpreters from around Australia who would love to work with an innovative and responsive agency. Send us your expressions of interest.

01.01.2022 And this is why we do what we do.... Equal access to communication is a basic human right, not something that should constantly need to be fought for. I love interpreting and feel so privileged to be involved in the lives of Deaf clients that trust me with their most personal and intimate information. Lovely messages like below really make my day. Exert of message reposted with permission. Hi there, just want to say thank you for attending training with me on Saturday. It was the first time Id had an interpreter and it really made a huge difference. Coming out in the middle of a pandemic as well showed a deep love and commitment to your craft. Having others notice the difference in my ability to interact and follow instructions showed just how important accessibility is. I felt quite emotional driving home. Thank you so much
