The Birdwood Gully Walk is a great spot to take a break. A 2.6km medium grade round walk that will take 1 1.5 hours. Experience a variety of flora and fauna. Walk through dry eucalypt forest down into the shady temperate rainforest full of star ferns and mossy creek beds. Pass dripping sandstone overhangs and enjoy the babble of the creek as you pass over several creek crossings, and look out for the grass tree grove. The descent and ascent are fairly steep but are not near any dangerous cliff edges. Perfect for kids of all ages.

02.01.2022 Just one hour from Katoomba, Glow Worm Tunnel in Lithgow is a spectacular place to visit. Built in the 1900s as part of the railway line to Newnes Kerosene Shale Works, the tunnel curves to almost 180 degrees, making it very dark inside. This dark, damp environment is an ideal habitat for glow worms and when the line closed in the 1940s, nature reclaimed the tunnel and the glow worms moved in.
